Location, easy parking, restaurant served good value food. Outdoor areas to drink and eat.Close to foreshore for walks. All town amenities within a 5 minute walk. Bed super large and comfy. The room we had was bay view. All the furniture, bed, carpet and tables etc looked new. Bathroom had a nice makeover. The room still retains some of its 70's original bits like the windows and desk / tea making / fridge areas which is a bit tired however the room was spotlessly clean. Fridge with small freezer shelf, microwave, kettle and toaster provided. Some cutlery as well.

This hotel was very nice and in a very nice location. I have to say, I don't understand the excitement about the "bay of fires" which is why we were at this location. Yes, the rocks with the red on them were pretty, but as it turns out, those red rocks can be seen all down the coast. So, there really wasn't a need to go out of the way to see the rocks at this location. I would have preferred to spend another day at another location, maybe Cradle Mountain, or Freycinet, rather than waste a day here. I suppose if you are lucky enough to have tons of time, then sure come see the Bay of Fires. Otherwise, skip it. You'll see these rocks in other places too.

No complaints about the hotel.

June 2025

The reception was welcoming and friendly; rooms were large and the beds were fabulous and comfortable. The rooms were exceptionally clean, quiet, and we were kindly offered late checkout. A party of four (two couples) had rooms next to each other and everyone slept well. We had sea view rooms on the first floor (lift available if you don't want to take the stairs) and the view over St Helen's harbour was truly stunning. We struck outstanding weather (beautiful Tassie winter sunshine on the shortest day June 2025). The walking path around the bay was flat and views were amazing with the rising sun. We had lunch on arrival at Skippers Fish which was fabulous, a drink in the Bayside restaurant (a $10 voucher per room) and a game of billiards on return after dinner out (we would have been happy to eat there but there was a Thai in a local brewery that we wanted to try). There was also a Bottle-O downstairs. The guy working bar was 'magnificent' (as one of our party observed) as he served everyone expertly and very quickly, delivered meals and cleared tables, and checked the billiard table for us (sometimes the black gets stuck, apparently). We paid $130 per night for each room which seemed exceptionally good value.

I thought as a motel it might have more cooking facilities (just a microwave, jug and toaster; there was also a reasonable sized fridge, hair dryer and an iron/ironing board) but the facilities were fine. My partner is GF so they prefer to do their own breakfast rather than hotel/cafe/etc. The website could have been more informative about what facilities the rooms have, and have more pictures. A lot of the St Helen's businesses could have improved their websites (esp if they use facebook) with more current information, as many were closed (off season) which is fair enough, but there was no forward notice that they would be shutting for June/July.

Was taken aback at first because it was much older than I thought but the room was perfectly clean and spacious and the important parts had been refurbished. Also above a 'bar/restaurant' with drive-thru bottle shop but in fact there was no noise. Lovely view and central to everything in town - easy to walk. Bed is on the firmer side.

There were no balcony door screen but also no bugs at this time of year. I usually like to sleep with something open for fresh air. We used air-con instead even though this time of year was cool at night

Overall a good stay with a beautiful view to the water, a very clean & comfortable room (although slightly dated in some aspects) and an onsite pub. Location is fabulous. Easy walking distance to IGA supermarket, cafes, bakeries, fish & chips and a short drive to the Bay of Fires. The only thing we could fault (and found a bit strange) was no bathroom hand towel provided for guests. It’s the first time we’ve ever come across this and found it weird given that face washers were provided (I did request a hand towel from the absolutely lovely cleaning team, but was advised that it wasn’t something that was available so we ended up using the face washers as hand towels 🤷🏻‍♀️). Would I stay here again, yes. The comfort of the room and great location outweigh the minor concerns.

The staff were very friendly. It was very central close to everything. I arrived at checkout time but the room wasn't quite ready but the staff member allowed ne to place my refrigerated items in the fridge whilst I waited for the room to be ready.

The room could have been ready on time. The room was not child safe at all. No lock on the door to balcony, no lock or latch on the room door so Toddler was always escaping out of the room which made it hard to sleep at night. The beds also moved around alot.

Love the newly renovated room, spacious, great location, awesome ocean view, comfy beds and have all the necessary room amenities, even a microwave (which is absent in a 4 star hotel nearby!).. what more could you ask for. Plenty of parking spaces, walking distance to nearby shops, supermarkets and eateries. Highly recommended for single, couples and family alike

The air-cond/ heat pump have this sound that is quite loud, especially at night. Sound like a turbo?

Excellent location with convenient parking. Our upstairs room, with nice views over the water, was clean, spacious, comy with great facilities. Nice bathroom. Guests are given a discount coupon for the Bistro restaurant and bar downstairs which was convenient, with reasonably-priced food. The various staff at check-in, check-out, the bar and restaurant were warm and cheerful. Given some earlier reviews of the property I wasn't expecting too much. But our experience was great.

There was a microwave, crockery for 4 in the family room, iron and board, generous bar fridge for a few extras, and room service was easy with yummy food. Beds were very comfy and a generous sized open room. Sunrise with the curtains open was lovely looking over the water and boats

A few more tv/network options would be great for a longer family stay…. addition of brighter wall colour/art would update the comfort and elevate the nice sea aspect we had

The location was really convenient. It was clean. I liked there were basic facilities for cooking toast for breakfast. Staff were really friendly.

Sadly there were a number of really noisy guests so sound obviously travels through the rooms from the corridor. Loading and unloading the car and going up the SLOW lift or stairs was a real hassle. It would put me off staying as I’d look for somewhere I could access my car and room much easier.
