Prompt reply on online chat before trip. Conveniently situated within shopping street with dinner options nearby till 10pm (last entry time applies). Only a 15-minute slope to Senkoji temple - brilliant for hanami. Facilities and amenities were thoughtfully prepared and well maintained. Triple room spacious enough for 3 adults and 2 medium-sized suitcases. Yummy breakfast - chicken salad, bread basket and coffee or juice of choice. Would have gladly enjoyed some more protein though not a major point. Very friendly staff and boss. Chatted with us and were generous in travel ideas. Happily conversant in English.

1. Front desk was out of staff most of the time and lacking instructions on how to reach somebody. 2. Nothing about the hostel but the daily 10am-8pm road closure of shopping street. Soon after booking, we're given image instructions regarding the parking locations 1-2 streets away. But due to the road closure, our original plan of unloading suitcases and my elderly parents at the door before I park the car eventually could not work. The fact that we arrived after dark made navigation to the car park a bit difficult as well. Hostel staff kindly showed the way. The parking spaces were actually within a 3-minute no-slope walk and easy to maneuvre into. Tips: no lifts. At least 1 flight of stairs for all because rooms are either on 1st or 2nd floor.

We had no issues at all with our stay. We stayed at Mange Tak because we were going to start cycling the Shimanami Kaido route from Onomichi. We were a group of 4 friends. The room looked quite new and was very clean and large. Everyone could lay out their luggage open and it was definitely not like the super small rooms you typically find in Japan. The staff helped us organise our luggage transfer and make a restaurant booking for us upon request. They do not have a dedicated space to store bicycles so two of us had to leave our bicycles locked outside - this was not an issue at all as Japan is super safe.

This isn't a negative but more of a note to say the breakfast is nothing special. For breakfast, you will receive vouchers to redeem at one out of two cafe choices. The breakfast (included juice, toast, yoghurt, coffee/tea) we picked was basic but still tasty.

I love the prime location! I walked everywhere, which is very good. But the best part is the free flow of soft serve. We love it!

There’s no lift! I had to drag 3 big luggages up the staircase. I landed in Hiroshima pretty late and I received an email that said 9pm is the lastest for registration. After nine, no one is at the reception. I was worried.

Great location. Clean, comfortable rooms. Fabulous breakfast included.

They advertised that they offered the luggage transfer service. We needed this as we were cycling the Shiminami Kaido. When we asked they said they didn’t do it. We had to scramble to find another hotel who kindly did it for us. It could have ruined our trip as we would have been stuck with our luggage. Really disappointing for an otherwise great hotel.

Great location, short walk from the station, and surrounded by restaurants, cafes and shops. Excellent one night stay before riding the Shimanami Kaido. Room was spacious and spotlessly clean. Highly recommend this boutique hotel!

Only a small thing, but it was interesting that the hotel was nearly empty (we visited off season in summer), yet when we arrived a few hours early before check in time (4pm which is the latest check in time of our whole trip) we could not check in, even though I saw several rooms clean and ready with doors open in the hallway. They did hold our backpacks so we could explore Onomichi on a hot day without them, so that was nice. I am sure we were the only guests that night, yet were not offered an upgrade to the larger rooms. But I think upgrading is not common in Japan, like it is in Australia and when we have travelled the UK and Europe.

Great location, very friendly staff and comfortable room. Rooftop area also which was great to watch the sunset and look at nearby temples on the mountain. The breakfast in the cafe next door was also very tasty. Be prepared to climb stairs to get to your room, but if you’re doing the Shinamani Kaido you probably don’t have much luggage with you anyway.

Mange Tak Resort was beautiful. The rooms were big and cozy, beds comfortable, and bathroom very nice. Turns out I'm a big fan of Onomichi! Location is great, and the nice man working gave me a great recommendation for Okonomiyaki just a walk away. Very friendly place, people, and atmosphere. Also check out Ubeke in Onomichi! Both were delicious.

Really lovely place, gorgeous room and bathroom, very good breakfast. Good location and Onomichi is worth a 1 or 2 night stay

We liked everything, but if we have to mention something then it’s the fact that there’s no lift. Not a big deal, but some people might find that difficult

This place is unique, and we are so happy we had a chance to experience it. It is special and has an interesting combination of the Japanese and the Scandinavian traditions, culture, and aesthetics - highly recommended.

just a minor thing the device they had in the room didn't work when we wanted to watch a movie. Maybe the price was a bit expensive but the facilities might have been worth it so really don't want to complain about this
