Booked by default as we were looking for accommodation near Stourhead, this hostelry came up on the site. The price was competitive, the welcome warm and the facilities just what we wanted. Anne and Tom run a very good business in a great rural setting. We ate in the restaurant and the menu was good with ample portions and excellent value. Breakfast was also very good. Being a free house the bar served a good selection of beer and spirits so a good combination of food and drink. We'll definitely be wanting to return.

There's nothing that springs to mind seeing that the bed was comfortable, the services more than adequate and reflected the price paid for bed and breakfast. The in- house restaurant is a bonus thus avoiding travelling and the location ideal.

Beautiful country pub with amazing views to Arthur’s tower. Big, comfortable and recently appointed rooms. Lovely characterful bar with great Guinness (proprietor is from Dublin!) Food was exceptional, all home made by Ann! The breakfast just as good. This is the sort of place you would travel a distance for an evening meal. We were cycling from Land’s end to London and booked the day before because it was en-route and we lucked out! I hope to get the chance to visit this lovely pub again!

The frontage of the pub is a little tired but don’t be fooled!

The property is both old and modern. The original pub is still working - several hundred years old and full of character, whilst the accommodation is modern, full of light and very comfortable.

For me, it was just too far out of Bruton, although, as the owners provided evening meals it was not such a problem. The plus side of the location was it was lovely to wake up to see the cattle, horses and ducks in the fields. Also, the view from the dining room was great - you could see the folly at Stourhead from the dining room.

Lovely quiet location on the outskirts of Bruton, on arrival Ann came out and introduced herself, showed my husband the best place to park our motorcycle, she couldn't have been more accommodating. She showed us to our room very big , bright with fabulous views, spotlessly clean. We had a few drinks and ordered delicious home-made food. Had a great sleep, so peaceful. Breakfast was amazing, set in the lovely dining room with picture windows, full english was one of the best.

Nothing loved everything

Lovely quiet location in a super landscape. Rooms were quite basically appointed but more than adequate. Spotlessly clean. Restaurant made the most of the view. Staff friendly and efficient. Evening meal offered a good choice and very well cooked and presented. Not the ubiquitous "pub grub". Highly recommend.

A bit more variety for breakfast buffet would have added to the experience. Towels were on the rough side, but that's a minor quibble.

Traditional old pub in very rural location. Tom & Anne were very welcoming. Comfortable clean room with lovely views. Had dinner which was very tasty and well presented, home cooked. The bar area is like going back in time but very quirky. Loved the free roaming ducks.

The bath was very slippery, use the rubber mat provided. Lots of midges in the room at night, had to keep window closed, probably from Pond in garden.

I love this property , the location is perfect and Tom and Anne are perfect hosts. Food is also excellent

Sadly on this occasion I had to leave early (4am) as the room was so hot and didn’t have a fan. I had to open the windows and this let in a couple of mosquitos which proceeded to bite me to death all night. Now I know this isn’t the fault of the owners but a cheap fan in the room would sort out this issue.

A real gem of a find. Friendly hosts, top rate accommodation, a comfortable, clean bed. Warm welcoming room with excellent facilities. The breakfast was amazing with a decent pot of tea. The dining room was warm with fantastic views despite the rain. The staff serving were so friendly and smiling. A great start to your day. I cannot praise this lovely accommodation enough. We use the area alot and we will most definitely be making it our regular stop off.

The Old Red Lion is in a beautiful, quiet rural location. Our room was spacious and very clean, with a lovely view of Alfred’s Tower. The rooms are modern with good, fast wifi. The evening meals are very good and we especially enjoyed the fillet steaks which were perfectly cooked. Breakfast was good with cereals, fruit salad, yoghurt and a choice of cooked dishes. The staff were very friendly and efficient. Tom and Ann are brilliant hosts at this lovely, old pub.

Great stand alone location with ample parking. The room was great, very clean and spacious with toiletries supplied in the bathroom and tea/coffee in the room. Fantastic views very peaceful and relaxing. Breakfast was amazing with a good choice but the cooked breakfast is highly recommended. Will definately stay for longer next time.
