My stay was wonderful and I wish I could’ve stayed longer. The check in experience was lovely, the staff made an effort to speak to me in Italian and was very nice in providing information about the city. Location is great, just a few minutes to the city’s West Gate, and the premises are great, it’s such an incredible experience to sleep in a former Madrassah. I had to leave very early and the staff went out of the way to prepare me takeaway breakfast. And if you can, book the extra services, such as day visits, etc.

It’s an issue with a lot of places in Uzbekistan, but I wish I could’ve paid by card. Maybe next time :)

The customer service and assistance in booking transfers and tours is exceptional. The staff could not do enough to assist in making our stay fabulous. The breakfast buffet was good with a local seasonal section. I stayed in two rooms - the first was small but with a double bed and an ensuite. The air conditioning (vital in the heat) was good and didn't blow onto the bed. The second room (family) was huge - a double bed and 3 single beds (one was tiny) with ensuite. The hotel is a short walk to the old city and provides a great opportunity to navigate the tiny lanes.

This is relevant to the whole trip - I should have bought my own coffee. What they provide is good but if you are in need of a great coffee to start the day - Khiva will not be your happy place.

Location is perfect. Just a few hundreds meters away from the city centre. I like the staff the most. What a real gems they are. The owner doesn’t speak English, but I could feel his friendliness. The day and night staff are enormously friendly. Always smiling and interested in your stay and well being. They are a real good reflection of the lovely people of Uzbekistan. yes, the rooms are small, but this is advertized as such. Point is sleeping in a historic Madrassa, what makes it special.

I have only one complaint and that is the shower curtain. It is molded and black. The management should replace the one at least in my room (Room 12).

New Star Khiva hotel was a great choice for a short stay in Khiva. Hotel is very close to old town, it is part of the minaret you can climb on. We loved the connection of hotel with minaret, it has it's own atmosphere. Room is small but cozy, you have a free water in the reception hall. But the BEST was the care of receptionists - amazing Manzara and Abror! They do a great job to support you and help you whatever you need. They even took care to prepare earlier breakfast for us, as we had to leave before 8am. They speak English very well, they are very communicative and friendly young people. BIG thumbs up for both of them!

The property is in a fantastic location (even when you come out of the city gate there are signs to help you navigate back). The staff had great English and stayed in communication via Booking.com to help with airport transfers and registrations. They were always so kind and welcoming. The hotel has been done up with a really nice modern but authentic feel.

Having complimentary water in a glass bottle (for eco reasons) would have been nice rather than going to the water dispenser in the lobby.

The warm welcome from the staff at reception was a very good start. The fact that they offer water free of charge was such a nice touch, they made us feel welcomed and provided a safe space away from home, we felt comfortable and safe and relaxed almost like you are staying with friends. Nothing was a bother, the breakfast was lovely and they even explained some of the local dishes to us and we tried them.

Our room was not the right proportion, there was no space to move around and once the suitcases were open we literally had to roll over the bed to get from one side to the bathroom on the other side.

The minaret inside the hotel is a massive highlight, possibly one of the best views of Khiva from outside of the old walled town. A spectacular view at sunset and all from within the hotel. For the price we paid, which may have a been a bargain last minute (but still only slightly more than we have been paying on average), we haven’t had a better stay in three weeks in Uzbekistan. Breakfast was fantastic with a full buffet of fruit, cold meats, yoghurt and cooked food, plus freshly cooked eggs and even a coffee machine. Two members of staff in particular were great! Mensura (may have spelt this wrong) and another young man, whose English was fantastic, were both brilliant and were always willing to help. Both deserve a special thanks.

Exceptional staff at the reception (Abror); the spirit of 120 years old medrese; small family-run hotel. We had an overnight flight and arrived at the hotel 5am in the morning. Thankfully, we were offered an early check-in (free of charge!) in one available room where I stay the first day; the following day I've moved to the room I have originally booked - more spacious and nice. The hotel may arrange all sorts of services for you quickly, safely and at a very reasonable price - from airport shuttle, taxi, day trips outside of the city to foreign currency exchange (we have used all of them :). The young man at the reception is a real gem - well-mannered, attentive to details, available practically 24/7, he even walked with me (10-15 min distance) to help me find a place I was interested in (!).

No tea making facilities in the room, but you may ask at the reception extra tea or drinking water at any time (tap water is not drinkable in Uzbekistan).

The hotel is located a five-minute walk from the old town in a quiet residential neighbourhood. It is housed in an old Koranic school (madrasa): the rooms and a shady, airy lounge area are grouped around an inner courtyard. It even has a minaret - without a muezzin. The original structure has been carefully renovated, the former bedrooms of the students are kept simple in a monastic style, they have a domed ceiling and beautiful stucco work on the walls. The beds are comfortable and the bathroom is of European standard, with plenty of hot water and good water pressure. Everything is very clean and well-kept. The crew is very attentive: from the very helpful, fluent English-speaking receptionist to the chambermaids and the cook, everyone offers top service in an unobtrusive manner and is very hospitable. There is a fresh and varied breakfast buffet and free bottles of water to take away. The Wi-Fi is fast and stable. We were a lively group of six people with different needs, we all found it very charming and felt well looked after. We can only recommend it and would love to come back.

A Tapchan in the « Aiwan » would make a 20/10! Who knows, maybe even a shadow donor tree would do a good job in hot summer.

Looks like a historical site and presents an interesting concept for a hotel, while being beautiful and accommodating at the same time (As it is a 5 minute walk to Old Khiva). Breakfast was amazing due to good quantity and quality. The hotel cat, Moiz, was particularly inquisitive about our arrival, constantly purring and enjoying its pets. Washrooms and bedrooms are clean and cozy.

Spacious rooms would be appreciated as well as an extra mirror in the rooms.
