Location is fantastic, lots of decent restaurants close by if you decide not to eat at the hotel, which also has a great lunchtime and evening menu. THe hotel has loads of lounge space, although the second guest lounge was not open you can use it for more private meetings.

Maintenance in the bathroom needs to be sorted out. We had a broken tap in the basin that was "temporarily" fixed, more care should be taken in getting it repaired quickly. I also found the cleaning staff very irregular in the times of cleaning as well as replacing coffee and waters in the room. Some days it did not happen.

To start with, I think this is the best you will get in Maputo. We had dinner at Polana Serena one evening and we were very happy that we decided to stay at Southern Sun, based on the food quality. Otherwise, the hotel is beautiful with a great view (especially if you have a room on the 4th floor) and he food was good (especially the breakfast). It was an overall pleasant experience.

The staff: they were often dismissive and forgetful, especially in the reception. The only thing that would change their attitude was if you tipped them. The only two people who really made us feel welcome (and that we are not a burden to the hotel) were the hotel manager and the chef. The room: we had first booked a superior room on the 2nd floor which was not of the highest standard. Then we decided to upgrade to an executive room on the 4th floor, which was much better. So the room quality also depends which room you get.

Property on the beach with beautiful rooms and views. Hotel is nicely located and within a short distance from the mall and casino. Served good food and exceptional breakfast. Great for families

Overcrowded, people everywhere. Breakfast a rushed affair and had to run around for cups and cutlery. Queing just to get breakfast. Hotel short staffed over Christmas day and next day. Nothing for kids to do on rainy days. No game room or any activities to keep them busy.

The location of the hotel and the view from the restaurant ensures a special experience. May/June is also a great time of the year to go to Maputo. The wind was not disturbing at all.

Staff that cannot speak english is a problem. It takes quite a while to explain what you want to order. I recommend that they employ english-speaking staff as waiters.

Info from Booking.com was that I had booked a suite. On arrival we were not given a suite. When I questioned this the staff kindly 'upgraded' us with no trouble (altho I didn't consider this an upgrade). The hotel said this was Booking.com's fault. I suggested they take it up with Booking.com. I felt caught in the middle. Our bed only had a bedside cabinet on one side which was a little inconvenient. Other than that the suite was very nice

After 10 days in Xai-Xai at our more basic lodge, arriving at the hotel felt like a truly luxurious experience! It really is a nice property, with a great location on the seafront. Our room had a lovely terrace with ocean views and was well appointed. We had dinner in the hotel restaurant and it was tasty with generous portions. The breakfast buffet was also very nice with lots of choice. We wished we could've stayed more than one night to explore Maputo a bit more.

Would've been nice to have some furniture on the terrace, it was just empty.

Staff and facilities where all very good, pricing of hotel acceptable considering location.

Food and drinks very overpriced, 3 times what would be expected. Bottle of cheap wine is approx R950 and average meal between R250 and R350. Eating out in Maputo also very expensive, paid R450 for std pizza at a local restaurant.

Right on the beach. Good security. Buffet dinner was excellent, lots of choice. Room was perfect, lots of space. Great bar service. Everyone was very polite. Some ladies appeared in the bar, of er, dubious 'working' arrangements. But they were friendly enough to chat to and I politely declined their suggestions.

What an absolute delight of a hotel! From the moment we got to reception until we checked out. Goge at reception was absolutely amazing! We were given the best room with all the beautiful delights to celebrate our wedding anniversary as a surprise. The view of the beach, sea and swimming pool was glorious! The hotel, rooms and every single thing is clean, every single staff absolutely friendly and helpful. The full buffet breakfast was absolutely delicious lacking nothing. I can't rave enough about this hotel, and we are definitely coming back with our little girl who will make full use of the pool! Thank you Southern Sun for your hospitality until we see you again! Public Relations between the client and staff should be improved. mostly at the front desk for the staff who handle email responses and information regarding to the bookings done. and also giving more information to the immigration officers at the airport and the boader to avoid embarrassments
