Exceptional location, peaceful and relaxing. Staff were friendly, welcoming and went above and beyond to make sure we were happy and had everything we needed including finding secure parking spot for our motorbike and preparing food for us at short notice. The food was exceptional, great quality, locally sourced and generously portioned. Breakfast was included in the price of our stay and so was entry to Stourhead gardens which made the overall price great value for money. The room was really cosy and comfortable and had everything we needed.
The bathroom was a little dated, though perfectly OK

The location is fantastic, and the view from the room was equally marvellous. This is a well-run, efficient litttle hotel, but some allowances must be made for the fact that it is small. The pub is not open during the week which makes the evenings quiet and simple although there are a number of gastro pubs and small towns eg Mere within easy distance. The staff are efficient, motivated and friendly, dealing with any problems very quickly and quietly.
I didn't read the info carefully enough before booking, so I was disappointed to be staying on nights when the pub itself was closed, I found the absence of a shower difficult (although the bath was large and the hot water plentiful) and there were a couple of problems during my stay - power outages, variable internet service etc - which made things a bit challenging, but these are small grumbles, given the charm of the hotel and it's staff.

The location was peaceful, and the views around were beautiful. Ideal stay after spending a day in Stourhead. The staff were lovely. The building is very old and is decorated in a tastefully old-fashioned way. We went for an evening stroll past the church and down the road to the open countryside. It's a shame that you can't get into the Stourhead grounds in the evening though.
Not a major issue, but there was no aerial for the TV, so you couldn't get any channels.

What a gem of a place. Its staff are truly the most welcoming and most helpful, its location is stunning. The slightly old-fashioned room was ever so comfortable and reminded me of stays at my grandparents when I was young. Am definitely going to stay there again when I am next in the area. Thanks again for looking after me.
I was not too keen on the 'perfumed' upholstery in the room

Really nice place, friendly staff, clean and comfortable. Access to Stourhead National Trust (beautiful), nice breakfast. Busy during the day with visitors to Stourhead, but serenely quiet in the evening mid-week.
No evening meal served during the week, which wasn’t clear when booking on booking.com, although it is clear on the Spread Eagle website. No problem, we were able to get a (exorbitant) taxi to the White Lion nearby which was very nice.

Clean, comfortable and attractive rooms in a hotel of character, just a few minutes walk from all areas of Stourhead's House and Garden. Friendly staff were ready to help and made us feel at home. Breakfast was good, the full English (that needed to be ordered the evening before) was decent, plus there was a range of cereals, yogurts etc. We took two rooms for two nights and enjoyed our time at Stourhead immensely, despite more than our fair share of rain!. We like to think that at some stage we will return.

The location of the Spread Eagle is incredible, the staff are excellent and there is a strong sense of being made to feel at home. The breakfast was delicious and had a good range of choices, the room was well equipped and the bed was very comfortable.
My only minor criticism would be that the WiFi is a little unreliable. It’s an open public service and gets extremely clogged because I expect it’s used by all the people using the nearby cafe. Perhaps consider a separate connection with a password for paying guests?

The bedroom, the staff, the atmosphere. The Spread Eagle is a lovely old fashioned pub.
The lack of communication regarding availability of food. An email of13 Dec told me that no food was available at the pub apart from pre ordered platters. This was due to staff shortages. Lo and behold we turn up yesterday afternoon having eaten elsewhere to find the pub serving food!!!! Why wasn't I told that food was now available. We spent over £70 on lunch at another pub when we would rather have spent the money in the Spread Eagle. So we lost out as did you due to poor communication.

The staff are amazingly friendly, made us feel so welcome. The location can't be beaten for Stourhead gardens. The room and bed was very comfortable. We only stayed one night but next time hopefully longer.
The breakfast option was cooked breakfast in your room or continental in the Green room. As we don't like eating in our room we chose the continental. At breakfast the option was cereals, yoghurt and toast, that's not a continental breakfast! It's not really a complaint just an observation.

We absolutely loved the location, within the beautiful national trust grounds! The hotel was very clean and all of the staff were so friendly and lovely. We had an evening meal which was fantastic, and the breakfast was brilliant with choices of a full English, cereals and toast.
There was nothing to not love, everything was exactly what we wanted!
