From the moment we arrived, we were enchanted by the atmosphere and the wonderfully welcoming community. Giuseppe was simply marvelous — warm, attentive, and made us feel as though we were being welcomed home rather than just visiting. As frequent travelers, this was truly the first place where we felt such genuine hospitality. The apartments are individually designed and thoughtfully located throughout the village, creating a truly unique and immersive experience. It felt as though we were not just guests, but part of the village itself — an experience unlike any other. Breakfast was an absolute delight, served in a beautifully restored old wine-making cellar that added a touch of history and character to every morning. The food was always fresh and thoughtfully prepared — the perfect start to each day. A special highlight of our stay was dining at Osteria dello Sportello in the village. Set in an old nobility villa, this multi-level restaurant offers a unique and memorable dining experience. Our host, Sarah, was charming, knowledgeable, and truly the heart of the establishment. The chef was approachable and made it a point to visit with guests, adding a personal touch that made each meal feel special. And as if all of this weren’t enough — there’s a pool! During the heatwave, it was a true haven. With plenty of private spaces to relax, it was the perfect way to spend a hot afternoon. We can’t wait to return to this hidden gem. Highly recommended for anyone seeking genuine hospitality, rich atmosphere, and a truly memorable experience.

It was a magical setting, blending history, relaxation, comfort, nature and culinary excellence. The bed was an exceptional size and extremely comfortable, giving us a fantastic night's sleep. The quiet aircon was a welcome surprise in the heatwave. The view from our bedroom was spectacular. Each morning we saw two white Labradors two white doves and a flock of smaller birds welcoming the day in and in the afternoon the cicadas took over. The swimming pool with a view of the Castello was out of this world. The church(not opened) at the top of the Castello had a fantastic viewpoint with a refreshing breeze as did the wall outside the Osteria Dello Sportello. The food and wine in the restaurant was beautiful as were the stunning authentic surroundings. The service was second to none and we were spoilt by Giuseppe's lovely wife. Giuseppe himself greeted us with such a warm welcome that we felt part of the Castello. The water wells placed around the Castello were beautiful and practical as was the "on tap" water on the restaurant veranda. The breakfast was delicious and also in a beautiful historical setting with excellent service. The residents of the Castello went above and beyond to help us with our car that broke down, and we are forever grateful to them for their kindness and generosity.
We overslept and missed our breakfast the first morning. Top tip, set your alarm, as you don't want to miss this experience. In all honesty we could not fault this place.

Although the name “Borgo San Valentino” suggests a village, it appears to be a wonderful castle high in the hills overlooking a valley and other hill cities. It has an excellent restaurant featuring local food. Life here resembles what life might have been like several centuries earlier with WiFi, TV, and everything we’d expect in the modern age. The views of the area are breathtaking from any part of the castle.
If you’re accustomed to flat land & elevators, this castle could be a challenge. There are many flights of stairs. Fortunately personnel are available to help with the luggage.

I traveled and stayed here recently with my family, at the entrance we were met with Giuseppe who was the most amazing host ever. The room was beautiful, comfy and spacious. The view was amazing. The history of the place is spectacular. Giuseppe was an excellent host, he met us every morning for breakfast with a smile. The breakfast options were amazing and there was something there for everyone. We absolutely loved our visit, and we will definitely be returning soon. The location is amazing, there is so much to see in the Umbrian hills and the food is just deliziosa specially the tartufo. Cannot recommend this location enough. Thank you to all the staff Special thanks to Giuseppe

This is a fantastic place! It is a small mountain village where it seemed like most of the houses were occupied by locals meaning there were very few tourists. The view from the mountain is awesome, the pool is great (10 min walk from the hotel) and the breakfast is nice. The apartment was very clean and newly renovated. Giuseppe runs this place and he takes care of everything in the best possible way - it was such a pleasure staying there!
We loved everything!!

Borgo San Valentino is a unique, gorgeous property - when you stay there you feel like you're going back in time. We stayed there for several nights with friends and used it as a starting point for driving around and exploring Umbria. The staff were very friendly and helped us to make reservations at local restaurants we would never have found on our own. I wish we had known to book the restaurant on site in advance as it looked amazing but was unfortunately fully booked by the time we arrived. The breakfast was lovely and quite extensive by Italian standards. We will definitely stay there again, even if only for a night so that we can enjoy a long dinner in the osteria!
The wifi didn't really work but we were out most of the day anyway, so it didn't really matter for us. But if you need strong wifi, then bring your own hotspot. If you stay in the winter time before the heat can be turned on, please also be sure to bring warm clothes as the buildings are old (but they do provide plenty of blankets).

Gorgeous, castle like building with a mix of residents and short term renters. Friendly staff and a great pool. The restaurant is a must. Not to be missed! Francesco is a fantastic waiter and was extremely helpful and accommodating
Getting transportation was a bit difficult. Taxis don’t regularly visit the area, so a car rental would be necessary next time I’d visit. There is a bus station about 12min from the property, but would be difficult to access if you were unable to walk up or down hills

Giuseppe was an amazing host, so kind and always greeting us with a smile. He seems to run the whole place himself, which was very impressive. A most beautiful and authentic experience, and anyone looking for a breathtaking location away from tourist crowds should visit the small charming village of Casteldilago.

Stunning apartments right in the old town. It felt like we were in a medieval movie set. The staff were super friendly and welcoming, and the apartment was huge and well equipped. The restaurant on site, Osteria dello sportello, has to be amongst the best in Italy. Breakfast also was simple but very good.
There was no air conditioning or fan, and in the middle of an Italian heatwave, the apartment was very hot at night. There is limited parking for guests on a first in, first served basis. Any spare parks get snapped up by diners going to the restaurant, even though they’re marked “guests only”. If you miss a park, as we did, you have to park well down the hill and walk up. These minor niggles didn’t distract from a fabulous stay.

Charming place and a good lication. Giuseppe was very kind and helpful.
Some of the lights didn't work. The kitchen can be equipped better. Driving up can be a bit challenging, and the parking is not always available, especially at the weekends.
