We liked that it was a quiet and private space where we could rest without the hustle and bustle of the city. The environment and the layout of the ryokan, creates such a serene space for us. Which was exactly what we wanted. The services and the food it was exceptional. Every meal we had felt like it was so well taken care of and of such high quality. It was so healthy and delicious all at the same time. Every dish was amazing but We would never forget the beef we had there and the seaweed porridge and the many side dishes that came with them those were the highlight for us. The shuttle services were really handy for us travelling in and out of the ryokan.

Nothing!

The property was very luxurious, clean and just very comfortable. The staff were extremely friendly and tried to accommodate with what ever I needed. Even with the language barrier they did everything exceptionally without any issues. The food was amazing also. The dinners especially were one of the major highlights for me. I tried so many new dishes and they all tasted amazing. Being locally sourced also made if that more delicious. The room was also amazing as I had my own private onsen.

Absolutely nothing. I actually have nothing bad to say.

Hayamakan Ryokan is a fantastic place to stay! The staff are exceptionally friendly and polite, ensuring a warm and welcoming experience. The onsen is beautiful, and the massage and spa services add an extra layer of relaxation. The ryokan also provides a shuttle service, which is very convenient for guests. It’s located near the Yamagata Pudding Café, making it easy to explore the area. A special thanks to all the staff, including the Thai staff, for taking such great care of us. Overall, it’s a lovely place, and I highly recommend it!

I booked this hotel without much expectation, mainly for the convenience of traveling to Ginzan Onsen. But once I checked in, I felt a bit regretful that I didn’t have more time to stay. The hotel is beautiful and clean, the staff are lovely, and they even upgraded my room. Both breakfast and dinner were delicious. The public onsen was beautiful, clean, and very inviting, and there was even a private onsen in the room. The hotel is beautifully decorated with plenty of photo spots throughout.

All the meals were amazing! Wonderful local ingredients in traditional Japanese style. It was wonderful to have such a variety of foods for the kaiseki meals. The staff was very helpful in the front and also for the meals and the room. I appreciate the care they take with everything. All staff went above and beyond - front desk was so helpful when we needed help to send our bags ahead to our next stay. The young woman serving our meals was friendly and knowledgeable it really made the stay more personal. Our room was shared by 4 of us in traditional style with futon. The amenities in the bathrooms were great esp the skin care- highly recommend! Regarding the hot springs- we had a private bath in our room as several of us have tattoos- water was amazing to soak in and relax after a shower. We did not use the public hot springs.

It is a cultural differences so it is a minor thing. I would of liked the option of coffee for breakfast. Again very minor but would be the only negative.

The food was incredible and the portions are huge, so bigger eaters can be assured that you won't go hungry. The staff are super sweet and not overbearing. The onsen is also perfect and well maintained, love the basket of onsen items that is given to us in our rooms. The property is very quiet and peaceful, it is great for a retreat from the hustle and bustle of the city.

The property is a little tired but you can see that the staff do their utmost to make things comfortable and it is impeccably clean so don't mind that too much!

The food is aboslutely amazing and they serve you a lot. You will defrinitely not go hungry eating either the breakfast or dinners. Everything is locally sourced, and the staff make a point to share with you where the food is from and what each item is. The onsens are very well maintained and have both lovely indoor and outdoor pools.

The facility is very clean and lovely, albeit a little bit on the older side.

The room with mountain view and the thermal bath was sublime, even better than what I imagined. Excellent service, tasty and abundant meals. The shuttle service was a lifesaver.

The wifi connection was spotty at best, every device disconnected on average every 5 minutes. The dinners while excellent felt more like a bit of everything/best of rather than a designed menu (i.e. very salty fish after an amazing steak).

Beautiful hotel with a private onsen and gorgeous views of Mount Zāo. The staff are beyond friendly and go above and beyond. The free shuttle to the station was very useful. The footbath outside with a bench to view the mountains was idyllic.

The bathroom had mould on the shutters which really made it feel dirty and unkempt. It meant you couldn't use the shutters at all.

Everything is so organised that our luggage were delivered to our room. Our rooms are so specious. Dinner and Breakfast were arranged inside a beautiful room with the Ponds view. Food is so delicious, dinner with Japanese Wagyu. Feel so luxury. The Onsen was fabulous with inside and outside that we can enjoy. My brother thinks this is one the best value and experiences in Japan. Facilities are well maintained
