The building was beautiful, and the location was lovely and quiet. The staff were very helpful.

The sofa bed was very bad, the mattress needed replacing, it hadn’t been checked properly. However when I informed them of the problem, they did their best to make the next night more comfortable for my son. As a really little point that is more for them than anyone else, they should check whether the flowers are dead in the room, the fridge makes a lot of noise in the night, and the glass doors bring in the hallway light that you can’t stop, so it’s not possible to make the room dark.

The styling of the whole place is wonderful, full of character and class. The breakfast was fresh and tasty, the staff were all kind and efficient. A really unique place to stay for a night. Lovely powerful shower and comfy beds. Communication before our stay was excellent.

We enjoyed everything, just things to be aware of... Its not a hotel so no bar or restaurant, there are plenty of places in Durango but you need to drive. The church bell rings regularly which is either a touch of authenticity or annoying depending on your approach. The room we stayed in only has a glass partition between the bathroom and the bed and only part is frosted, you need to have a good relationship with whoever you share the room with!

Beautifully presented property with wonderful people set in a delightful village. The property has been lovingly restored and is charming yet also chic. Staff are fantastic and want you to have a great stay and resolve any issues.

The only tiny draw back is you can’t park next to the property except to unpack, and it’s no issue to walk from the car park to the hotel but we felt it after a long day hiking in the national park, but don’t let that put you off.

Really enjoyed our stay here. Uxue on reception was so friendly, helpful and welcoming, really made our 4 day stay wonderful. As previous reviews have mentioned, the hotel is really a B&b with about 8 rooms. This means there's no one around in the evening and no restaurant (and nothing is open in the pretty village of Garai) so it's 10 mins drive and then somewhat challenging parking to the large town of Durango which is very a locals town. Parking at the hotel is free but about 100 meters up a zigzag slope to get to the hotel. (You can drive up to the hotel to load your cases). Breakfast was extra (8 euros pp) and was nice but identical each day. I think for a shorter stay (1 or 2 days) then this is a brilliant hotel.

Rooms are very stylish (exposed brick work), bathrooms have opaque glass walls but don't offer much privacy and for two people with two cases, the rooms are smallish with minimal storage so it was a juggle to find floor space for them. As others have said, there's also little sound insulation so you won't be sleeping in.

Really cosy house, nice design, attention to many small details. Very tasty breakfast cooked a la minute. Nice small terrace, old church right next door. Very friendly, professional and helpful ladies team running the house.

Very small bed and overall very small room, toilet separated with glass wall is a bit too less privacy. Also, our room was in the ground floor, right next to reception, so it was quite noisy in the morning.

I had an amazing stay at Garaiko Landetxea. It’s a beautiful accommodation. Modern, comfortable and situated in a quiet town surrounded by nature and magical views of the mountains. On top of that, the staff was brilliant. Jasone and Irune are very kind and go the extra mile. I was offered to lend Jasone her mountain bike since I wanted to do some cycling. They also provided a very good dinner on my arrival date. The breakfast was great as well and is prepared with the utmost care and attention to detail. I was given good recommendations for my day trip to Bilbao as well as recommendations for places to eat in Durango. It was simply perfect. Would love to come back in the future!

Lovely little hotel located in the stunning village of Garai. Beautifully decorated in a great location. The staff were friendly and helpful, and the breakfast was superb.

We were a bit disappointed to be placed in a room on the top floor which meant we had no window, just a skylight in the ceiling with a broken blind that didn't close properly, which made the room very hot. The other thing that is not immediately apparent from the photos is that the bathroom walls were all glass (or at least in our room). Although it's true this is quite the design trend in hotels these days, we would have preferred just a little more privacy.

What a treat to stay at this amazing place in the quaint village of Garai, just above the larger town of Durango. Staff is incredible (thanks to Olatz for warm welcome and Irune for delicious breakfast and excellent tips on sites in the area!). Rooms are very cozy, we had amazing views of the mountains. The entire hotel is decorated so tastefully. We highly recommend the Herriko restaurant in town, a short stroll from hotel. Garai is an excellent base to explore the Basque region.

The room was beautiful, breakfast was amazing and Irune, was the most wonderful hostess. She was so incredibly helpful in planning our days and worked so hard to make everything about our stay perfect!!!

The town of Garai is very quiet this time of year. There was no place in town open for dinner. Durango was not too far but it would be nice to have dinner available to all guests at the hotel.

The fragrance in the air outside the hotel was enchanting. We liked the location and the room was a good size. The staff was very friendly and helpful.

Parking was a challenge the first night as there was an event in town and all the parking lots were full. Not so bad the next night. The shower was leaky and the bathroom tap was loose.
