The location, setup and food is amazing. The game drives and getting in touch with nature in the bush right on Durbans door step is just something else. Our hosts really went out of their way to make us feel comfortable and catered for my family full on. Our guide Praisewell was absolutely knowledgeable and experienced on the game drives and ensured that we saw the big 5. Lungelo at reservations was extremely helpful on my bookings and meal requests followed by Lihle and Mlungi who made our stay more like a home away from home.

The fact that we had to leave.

This was my second visit to Balaya Game Resort, and I’m thrilled to say it surpassed even my already extraordinary first trip two years ago. Having explored many places in the area, I wasn't sure if they could recreate that magic—but they not only met, they exceeded every expectation! The lodge is simply amazing, blending comfort with the raw beauty of nature. The rooms are impeccably clean, and the beds are new and incredibly comfortable, ensuring a restful stay after a day of adventure. One of the standout features of Balaya is the game drives. They are truly special, offering an intimate glimpse into the wild. The passion and dedication of the rangers shine through in every drive. Their knowledge about the animals and the land, combined with genuine care for your experience, elevates each safari into a once-in-a-lifetime adventure. During this visit, we even witnessed lions in their natural habitat—hunting and yes, killing. While such scenes might not be everyone’s cup of tea, for me, it was an awe-inspiring, raw demonstration of nature's realities. It's experiences like these that remind you of the wild’s unfiltered beauty and power. Overall, Balaya Game Resort delivers on every front. The friendly staff, the comfortable accommodations, and the exceptional game drives make it one of the best experiences I’ve had. I can’t recommend it highly enough for anyone looking for an authentic and unforgettable safari adventure!

Staff were friendly and extremely helpful. Food was delicious. Very relaxing. Rooms were clean and comfortable.

The game driver needs to stock more ice for evening drinks as it was super hot and the ice had all melted so there wasn’t any to put into the gin and tonic’s. The morning coffee was instant - which was very disappointing. Filter coffee should be served, as well as milk, not only Amarula as an option to go with the coffee / tea.

Rondavel room was comfortable, clean, and nicely-designed. Main lodge was lovely with excellent food and a lovely pool. Game drives with thoughtful and expert guides afforded excellent wildlife viewing, including most of big 5, birds, dams, landscapes, and stunning bush sunsets. Stargazing at the site another unexpected bonus.

Only minor complaint is that open-shower design leads to inevitable low-level flooding onto the floor outside the shower, which is mildly inconvenient but more so for cleaning staff than for me.

Food was very good; Maintenance excellent and staff helpful and friendly. Our guide (Riaan) was exceptional and thoughtful.

Game viewing wasn't particularly good, probably because of a lot of long grass. However, this did not spoil the experience.

The breakfast was great. The evening meal on Saturday could have been better! Disappointed with that. Meat was not very good and the vegetarian options were not great.

Dinner Saturday evening. Venue fantastic. Food was not great? Guide was good but needed more experience.

It was our second visit to Bayala. What a perfect spot for a Christmas getaway. The staff are so friendly and make such an effort with the guests. It is not a stiff environment and lovely family getaway spot. Roxy was a fantastic guide. We had some incredible game viewing. The rooms are always so impeccably clean.

location, Eben , the resident Wildebeest . It was peaceful and quiet . Excellent meals . The game drives were excellent. Praisewell , the guide was top notch .

The TV in the reception area was not working . The wifi could be better .

This is not the fanciest resort, but the game drives are amongst the best in the world. A fellow tourist commented “better than Serengeti”. We loved our time, would absolutely go again.

I would like a fridge in the room, but mostly it was great
