The hotel is lovely in looks and property personality. One of its most salient features is the front desk staff. Both Monica and Daniel were wonderful and made us (the guests) feel like long lost family coming home. The restaurant staff is also lovely. Good beds, well appointed bathroom and closet. Sound-proofed windows that work really well and storm shutters that act as blackout shades. We much enjoyed our stay and our whole cantabrian coast trip which, being within easy distance of the hotel, was an absolute location plus.

Better sound insulation from the door and outside hallway would have been great.

"One of the greatest secrets of Spain" The newly renovated or should I say "completely restored""Gran Hotel Brillante" A truly Grand Hotel from the turn of the century that has been a summer residence to one of Spains famous authors is truly one of the most outstanding Hotels we have ever had the pleasure of staying in. The incredible detail such as the gold leaf lettering on the on the menus to the absolutely incredible selection of the regions premium wines does not disappoint. With only twenty two perfectly elegant rooms to its glorious dining room. This Hotel is "One of the greatest secrets of Spain" Words cannot describe the Hotel staff’s attention to detail at every level. After one night you feel as though you have been part of the family forever. If they have a room available, you had better grab it ! And the food !!! Amazing in every way. We only intended to stay one night, but after dinner we had to stay a second night ! The freshest most delicious seafood possible ! We are still at a loss to convey its charm and hospitality with words... "we cannot wait to return to our new home away from home in Spain. P.S. we have heard rumors that the owner Fernando intends to open a five star resort in the next months somewhere in Spain. If it is anything like the Gran Hotel Brilliante it will no doubt be a smashing success. Dan & Kristiina from Northern California

Did not have breakfast. Evening meals were OK but choice limited. Staff very friendly and generally helpful. Building has been very well restored. Car park nearby and secure. Location ideal for exploring Asturias.

Room could be better designed. No bedside table on right hand side. Only one easy chair. No instructions as to lighting, oven, tv etc. Information from booking.com and hotel website said a microwave provided. Staff said microwave not provided. In fact the oven was dual purpose and included a microwave., Daniel sorted this out. This is a studio, and as such it should be expected that guests spend more time in the room than say just a "room." If it was not for Daniel we would never have known. This is not good enough for what is not a cheap hotel- it lets you down!

An unexpected pleasure in a very small town on the river Nalon. Staff were marvellous (though few), room was great, lighting was great, bed/linen great, bathroom excellent. Lovely morning walk by the river. Easy access off E-70. Aguilar beach near by is gorgeous and see the "casas indios" in Samao too (the ones with palm trees).

This is not unusual but absence of kettle in room means no tea or room service - and us English like our afternoon and morning tea! One for the whole industry! The real disappointment was the dining - the evening meal was underwhelming (both the lasagne and the tarte tatin came from the microwave though originally home made), the red wine too cold, while breakfast (ok it was a sunday morning) felt "tired" with stale croissants. Still plentiful so not a huge negative, just disappointing after the joy of the room!

Newly renovated the decor is tasteful, it highlights the traditional features of the building but remains fresh and unstuffy. We had a deluxe corner room. Whilst initially we thought the crane view from the window was a bit strange, once you walk around the sea front you realise they are there because they pay homage to the history of this small town which was once an important port in the region, as they are no longer in use. The beds are super comfortable, with several pillows, lovely linen and there is plenty of storage in the room. Clever things like having USB ports at the plugs avoids having to use travel adaptors. There is a mini fridge (not stocked), which is handy as there are shops nearby where you can buy drinks or fruit. The bathrooms are gorgeous and spacious, again designed with immaculate taste, they have basic toiletries but the towels are large and luxurious. And most importantly there is plenty of space around the double sink and underneath to put your toiletries. Breakfast consisted of a buffet with a great selection of the usual items such as pastries, fruit, yogurt, cold meats and cheese and an a la carte selection of eggs and other that you could order at the table. The reception staff were super helpful and advised walking routes and things to do. One of the walks was about 5km to the most stunning beach. The hotel is well located as a base to explore the local area, like the more famous towns such as Cudillero which is about a 15 min drive, but it is way calmer, yet there are plenty of restaurants along the water front.

My husband suggested he would prefer a thermostatic shower so he didn’t have to keep fiddling with the hot and cold shower taps, though I did not think that was an issue.

Very cute boutique hotel in the historic, charming little town of San Esteban. If you are traveling by car, Cudillero, Playa del Silencio and Playa Aguilar are a short drive away. Great front desk staff—they were super pleasant, incredibly helpful and spoke good english. Comfortable bed and pillows, clean, well appointed room, good shower. Convenient parking just across the hotel. Will definitely be back!

I would have given the hotel a 10, if not for the restaurant’s skinny waitress with the long ponytail —she always had a scowl on her face and seemed very annoyed that we showed up for breakfast at 8:05am instead of 8:15am. Fortunateely, the other restaurant staff— a woman with dark hair behind the counter, and a young man— were very pleasant and welcoming.

Our room, 105, was a large suite room that had a pink marble shower large enough to fit 4 people. It had two large sofas. The staff were super friendly. The breakfast was great. Ate dinner on both nights in the restaurant. The burrata salad with pesto was exceptional, the best I have ever had. Hotel parking was their own behind a barrier. It has 3 charging parks.

Room was hot when we arrived, and the air con system was not operational yet, even though it was at the end of May. Luckily it was a breezy day and a few open windows cooled the room down to a just acceptable level. Got hot at night when we had to close the windows due to street noise. Spoilt our stay, as everything else was just perfect.

Staff were very friendly & extremely helpful, especially Roman. It has a lovely location, with good areas to walk.. you could get drinks at any time ,& they had a good coffee machine in the room.

The only thing we found was the evening meal was very late. It would have been nicer to eat around 18.00., but there was plenty of choice to eat in other places. It would have been nice to get some milk in the room, but they did provide a good fridge.

This place was amazing! I wish we were staying longer! We had a 2br apartment which was so spacious! The bedrooms were elegant and super comfortable and the amenities were exceptionally clean and everything you would need. The staff were amazing and very helpful as well. I would definitely come back again!

It was hard to find anything wrong here! The only thing I would say is that you do here a bit of road noise if there are noisy bikes or cars, but otherwise this property was amazing!

One of the best boutique hotel I have ever stayed. No.1 the courteous staff, who treated me warmly but with care and class. Amazingly recently refurbished, a spectacle for the eye. Last but not least, the best quality bath towels , bed linens , and table clothes you can ever experience to the touch of your skin . You can see they looked at every details to make this place amazing for their guests
