This is a lovely escape a short walk from the fort. Welcomed the additional space offered by an upgrade. This upgrade made the stay feel better value for money. Property does well to offer a fun and diverse selection of food and drinks. Generous breakfast; although portions seemed to vary per day. The execution/service level varied with some staff being more attentive/thorough than others. While we would highly recommend this place, this is not a property for anyone seeking room service, or a high level of luxury.

Of the six properties that we stayed in during this stay, this was the only one not to have a fridge in the room. Plenty filtered water was provided in the room, and cold bottles available to collect from the bar area on request. The taste of the water improved by filtering again in our own bottle. Other places offered consistent service, more room conveniences and a well kept pool at a fraction of the price. Be mindful that a service charge is added at each and every stage so for the odd drink, it might be better to head out with the accommodation to a shop or restaurant/cafe

Staying at The Sun House was an absolute delight from start to finish. The warm and genuinely kind welcome we received made us feel at home right away — every member of the team went above and beyond to ensure our stay was perfect. The property itself is breathtaking, with its beautiful surroundings and elegant atmosphere creating a true sense of peace. The rooms are exceptionally comfortable, thoughtfully designed, and equipped with every detail you could wish for. It’s rare to find a place that combines such heartfelt hospitality with this level of beauty and comfort — I can’t recommend it highly enough.

Truly beautiful and calming oasis of a place to stay. Beautiful characterful interior and outside area. A very unique place to stay. We also really enjoyed the pool area. The staff are fantastic, always going above and beyond whilst also not making you feel over crowded. Super friendly and helpful. Food was great, breakfasts were lovely. Banana bread and homemade jams were delicious! Cocktails and dinner at the restaurant was also really good. Away from hustle and bustle of galle centre so very relaxing but still easily walkable to old fort in 10-15 mins. We loved it here, it’s one of the most special places we have stayed across the globe and we can’t recommend highly enough!

Super friendly efficient staff.our terrace room was looking down to the pool area lovely four poster bed with clean crisp cotton linen and fresh towels. The mosquito net made for a romantic feel,. Christine had her birthday during our visit and the management laid on a birthday 🎂 cake which rounded off a perfect day. All the food was presented beautifully and always tasted as good as it looked. The area surrounding the hotel is really nice and quiet, but there is a uphill walk returning from town, we found no problem taking the walk.but others might like to take a Tuk Tuk the cost is around £2 and we'll worth it in the hot afternoon.

This is the place where you want to stay while visiting Sri Lanka. You spending your holiday in the history of this country. A spice traders house built in 1860 and completely renovated recently with lots of taste. The rooms, the living and dining areas, garden with the pool, everything is so beautiful and it feels it’s your own private home. Also breakfast and dinner was amazing and very tasty. The manager and all the staff are extremely helpful and super friendly. As it’s just a bit outside of Galle Fort, it’s super calm. But only a short stroll to reach the harbour with the local fisherman and the old town by foot. If not, a Tuk Tuk ride takes 5 minutes. Everything was just perfect.

We loved our stay at the Sun House. The staff were fantastic, we were welcomed by the manager given a refreshing drink whilst other members of staff delivered our bags to our room. We were given a tour of the property and told about its history. We loved the style and decor, the hotel is quite small and intimate and we loved the personal service and met many of the other guests. We ate dinner both evenings at the hotel and the food was superb. All the staff were great but a special shout out to Priyantha who looked after us for breakfast and dinner. This is a very special hotel and we would highly recommend and will definitely return.

Great communication from booking until leaving the property. The owners have taken great care to employ the right staff who go above and beyond to deliver a personal service without being over baring. The whole team could not be politer and have an extremely professional approach. The room I had was large well furnished, very comfortable and a bathroom you normally only see in magazines. While the pool area is not that big it is set in loverly grounds and the pool was very clean. The food standard in the restaurant was of a very high quality. Ask the team for something and they will deliver.

There was nothing negative to say about this property. If I had one comment it may be to add a tv to the rooms. But this is really minor and during my 3 night stay I did not miss a tv

This place is very special, the photos can't do it justice! It has such a calm atmosphere and you really feel immersed in the character of the building and its surroundings. The staff were incredibly helpful and friendly, the food was excellent and all this just a short walk away from the Galle Fort. We will book this place again next time!

No fridge in the room (mostly a design driven decision?) as we found this in other places in Sri Lanka too. And the shower water wasn't warm enough, especially on the last day it had turned cold but didn't get a chance to report it as we were checking out.

This is by far the most idyllic property that I’ve ever stayed in. The room/suite is designed to perfection - effortlessly understated and at the same time luxurious. Every piece of furniture feels carefully curated to capture the essence of this stunning colonial home. It is wonderful to have the quiet escape of the drawing room with ample space to sit and lose yourself in a book, or play a game of chess. The beautiful veranda, overlooking the gardens, provides a similar haven of peace. Dinner last night was sublime, clean, fresh, wonderful local produce created exceptional and tantalising tastes. And a beautiful bar where the most refreshing drinks are created. The tropical gardens provide the perfect setting from which this morning I listened to the dawn chorus and watched the sunrise, before having a private yoga session with Charman. Breakfast was another delight, with fresh fruits freshly baked bread and a choice of European or Sri Lankan fare couples with a magnificent and health giving ginger and turmeric drink to start. The pool, sitting to the back of the lush tropical gardens, is sunken like a Roman bath, and provides a refreshing contrast to the heat of the midday sun. Each of the sun loungers, hidden behind plants to continue that sense of privacy. Michael, the general manager, and his team are exceptional. There is nothing they can’t do and they are on hand to answer all your needs while remaining subtly and unobtrusively in the background. I cannot thank the team and the owners enough for creating such an incredible space, allowing its guests to unwind from the hustle and bustle of the town outside, a short walk down the hill. As you walk l through the doors into the courtyard, they have truly created a magical oasis where time stands still, and its guests can immerse themselves in the sounds of nature in beautiful surroundings. It is perfection. Thank you so much.

The hotel is in an old colonial house, incredibly well restored and with all the commodities. The shower (and water pressure) is great, the internet is fast, the room and bed are conformable and relatively quiet for Sri Lankan standards, the staff is friendly and super helpful there is a pool, patio and bar and the food (including breakfast) are also great.

The price-value is a bit too high. Not something we didn't like but more of a "Warning": It's outside of the walled city so you need to walk a bit to visit the Galle highlights (about 15min), but that means that coming back alone at night if you're women only is not recommendable (street lighting is scarce).
