The food was delicious, and the two pools were absolute heaven - perfect for relaxing and soaking up the sun. While the cocktails were just okay, the overall vibe of the hotel was fantastic, and I truly enjoyed my stay. The room was very nice, clean and quite large. We got an upgrade upon arrival. The swimming pool and sky bar are beautiful and the views are amazing.

The food could be better and the restaurant staff is not very fast. I received a Shrimp curry instead of chicken one, and had to wait 10 min for the new one while the rice and sides were getting cold.

Great location and the staff were 10/10, they were so friendly and professional, food was good and rooms were lovely and spacious with excellent views. The massage was exceptional and they put on a great fire show on our last night. Would stay again!

The whole hotel needs a bit of a refresher, a lick of paint and a new lift. A lot of the common areas are a bit tired and new towels and bedding are needed urgently! It’s a salt water pool so I get that the towels will wear eventually. Nothing major but there are lots of hotels in the same price range that were a bit more polished.

Everything in the property was super excellent amazing wonderful 1) the pool was very nice 2) the breakfast was excellent 3) The whole staff the manager Gihan and Suba were amazing Gihan did extra miles to make our stay wonderful 4) the hotel location is very good close and walking distance to the live an active street full of shops cafes and restaurants 5) the hotel decoration color theme and facilities are wonderful I highly recommend anyone who is coming to Unawaruna to Stay at Thapronan Waves Hotel You will really enjoy your stay in all aspects

Thaprovan Pavilion and Waves Resort in Unawatuna is truly a gem for anyone seeking a serene and luxurious coastal retreat. We stayed here from 18th to 22nd December 2024, and every moment was a delight. The resort boasts two beautifully designed swimming pools that overlook the ocean, making it a perfect spot to unwind while soaking in the breathtaking scenery. There’s also a natural pool surrounded by rocks, adding an adventurous yet tranquil touch to the experience. You could easily spend an entire day lounging by the poolside, enjoying the soothing ambiance. The rooms are spacious, immaculately clean, and tastefully decorated, with each offering picturesque views of both the pool and the sea. The attention to detail in design ensures maximum comfort and aesthetic appeal. Housekeeping is top-notch, maintaining the highest standards of cleanliness and organization. What truly sets this resort apart is its impeccable service. The resort is managed with utmost professionalism, led by the remarkable manager, Gavish. His constant presence and friendly interactions with guests add a personal and welcoming touch to the stay. The hotel pools and outdoor areas are really great and we loved spending time there, sunset views were amazing. Breakfast was really good and the staff are very friendly and helpful. Our room was very spacious and the bed was very comfy, and the shower was very nice - big and powerful.

Drinks and food at the hotel were very expensive compared to going to bars and restaurants down the road. For example, cocktails were about £6 and an iced coffee was about £3, which is what I’d spend on coffee in the UK. Some parts of the hotel could do with a bit of renovation/update, although that didn’t really affect our stay except for the air con unit in our room which stopped working properly whilst we were there. We were still fine as the ceiling fan kept us cool enough. For us, these points are not deal breakers and so we would still recommend the hotel.

Staff were great, view lovely, room was spacious and clean Tuktuk drivers in the area will charge you 2 to 3 more because you are at the end of the street. And bully other cheaper drivers to stay away pick me and uber much better value but you have to walk for 2km the main Rd because they get hassled by the other overcharging drivers.

The sunset was so beautiful it made my Mrs cry. That is all you need to know! Beautifully decorated hotel and really nice large room next to pool. Breakfast was tasty and varied.

WiFi was unreliable which was annoying. We sampled their cocktails during one of their Happy Hours and to be honest they were terrible and would avoid. There are some bars in town with exquisite mixology and cheaper prices so head there. Lastly the hotel was at the far end of the strip so got plenty of walking in but it is worth it for the seclusion and views.

The staff are the best thing about this property. Prasad in particular on reception was excellent and very helpful. Chandana the property manager ensured I had a pick up from the airport and a lovely stay. Dilrukshi helped me plan all my treatments. The bar manager was so kind and helpful and all the staff were extremely friendly and professional My massage therapist was fantastic. I had a massage every day. The Thaprobani signature was terrific. My yoga teacher did 90 mins of yoga every day at 8am in a beautiful studio at Thaproban Retreat. A couple of mins walk from Waves. Nandan was brilliant and I really enjoyed his class. Very worth while trying.

Mosquitos 🦟

It was my second time visiting, this time with family. We enjoyed relaxing around the pool, enjoying the roof top bar for sun downers and making use of the spa facilities (including an extra usage for a head massage when I had a migraine). The staff really make this hotel - the hospitality shown from arrival until you leave is exceptional. They are friendly, provide great service, and give wonderful tips for both the local area and the country to make the most of your stay. Would 100% recommend a stay here. Must do's: an experience at the spa (I would recommend the head massage); the BBQ night and the Sri Lankan food night; a cocktail on the roof terrace for sunset!
