This historic coaching inn is full of character, with the bars and eating areas set in several old rooms at different levels. The staff were very helpful when I discussed food intolerances. The food was enjoyable, and the range of drinks was excellent.

The bedroom felt a bit dated, but it was comfortable, and (given its description as a 'Cosy Double') was a surprisingly reasonable size. The room faced the courtyard of the pub, which was pretty but very much affected by the noise of the kitchen extract fan during the day. I appreciate that it must be hard to solve this in a historic building, but it was so dominant that I felt more sound reduction equipment would have been good.

Breakfast was amazing! Had the full breakfast one day and tried the pancakes too wow! They also accommodated an extra guest that wanted to join us which was great. The room was really cosy, it had a lovely bed and a great shower, all needed after all the walking. The hotel is in a beautiful village with lovely pubs and coffee shops. We had dinner at the hotel too which was really nice, the lamb shank was superb our waiter was very attentive and friendly. A lovely stay.

I like a latte in the morning but the coffee was just filtered. The parking! We had to come back to the hotel while we were in the middle of dinner to move our car, which was parked fine, to let someone else out of a very tight space. Spoilt our evening. The parking spaces at the end should be removed/blocked out to allow patrons to manoeuvre.

Great location, our room was in a pleasant detached stone building with easy private parking close by. Food and staff were all very good. I had a slow cooked rib of Welsh beef, not a dish you see on every menu, it was perfectly cooked and most enjoyable. My wife enjoyed her chicken with wild mushrooms. Breakfast was great with an actual jug of coffee brought to the table, unlike most places these days where you get your own from a machine. We walked down to the river before dinner and had a drink in a riverside bar and watched some trout from the bridge. Shops were very good with 2 butchers a deli and a Saturday market with nice artisan bread (we stopped in Crickhowell for one night en route to a self catering holiday further on) and greengrocers,. My wife was able to buy a very suitable sun protection hat that was exactly what she needed. Nice book shop too. I'd recommend Crickhowell for a short stop on a touring holiday.

An excellent 2 night stay in January when the weather was cold but dry so the fires in the bar were much appreciated after a long walking day. Our room was large with a comfy seating area, fabulous thick curtains and the heaviest cushions I have ever encountered. All felt very cosy. The breakfasts were superb - great choice, freshly cooked for you and totally delicious. Crickhowell is a lovely town and the surrounding areas great for walking and exploring.

the bathroom was chilly even though it had a heated towel rail - the tiled floor is very cold! Bring slippers or thick socks.

Unfortunately the room we had booked (COURTYARD DOUBLE) was changed to double room in main hotel which I had not booked because of many stairs and my husbands difficulty in walking. I had originally contacted hotel directly and was told there were no rooms available on my dates so I then went to BOOKING.COM were I booked COURTYARD ROOM successfully. But luckily TRACY on reception saw the error and quickly altered our rooms the next day. We could not have managed to stay with rooms up stairs if she had not done this. So a BIG THANK YOU to Tracy for saving our stay. She was excellent She saved our holiday

More choice and lighter bar meals. Inability to make a cocktail!

The property was lovely. Food was superb

My husband and I stayed on the bottom floor. We had no sleep as there was a fan extractor or something like it. It kept going on very loud. Then above us people were walking back and fore to the toilet so we could hear very squeaky floorboards. It felt like the noise was in the room with us. That was 4am on wards. We didn’t get a wink of sleep. We told the receptionist in the morning and she said we should have asked to swapped rooms but we didn’t want to do that at 4.30 in the morning.

I am a solo traveller and I couldn't have felt more welcome at this hotel. I was greeted warmly by the lady on reception who took me up to my room, and helped me with my luggage. Later on I had a mulled wine in the bar, served by a polite young man. The bar is spacious but still cosy as it is made up of several smaller spaces. I had dinner in the restaurant and was seated at the perfect table, from where I could admire the Christmas decorations. The waiter was outstanding, it's not often that I receive such good service in a restaurant! Breakfast was excellent too, good food, no delays and the hot course did not arrive when I was still eating my yogurt!

Familiar with this special hotel which we've visited on many occasions. It was nice to have a room upgrade..clean well presented room and well located .Basic tea tray and toiletries ..would have expected a welsh influence on both

Resteraunt staff lacked people skills..no real welcome,pre order of food wasn't accurate then all the staff appeared to compensate! Breakfast didn't fare any better..arrived at 9.15,juice was empty as was the fruit salad,found a hair on my bowl..no warmth or atmosphere..lacked the Welsh hywl ..a shame as reception staff were excellent

Friendly. helpful staff. Room was well decorated and comfortable. Food was excellent. I was contacted ahead of my stay to check if I wanted to make reservations for dinner which was very helpful. Perfect location for a weekend walking break. We stayed for Sunday lunch which delicious, and even though it was Mother's Day and they were very busy, all the staff were friendly and professional - food was served quickly and to a high standard which is a testament to the organisation of the kitchen and front of house team.

The bed had a footboard. Not ideal as I couldnt really stretch out to sleep. The shower was over the bath which is never a good thing, in my book. Although the shower itself was pretty good. The restauarant was closed on a Monday and we were informed but eating in the bar was an odd affair. They must be doing something right as it was fully booked but it was a very chaotic place to be and not really relaxing. Food came quickly and was plentiful but almost too quickly and was of mediocre quality I am afraid
