Breakfast options were good for vegan/vegetarians. All staff were very friendly and hospitable. Lovely location with short and easy access into Ilfracombe. Very glad to have free parking

Although I had been advised the room was small, it was still smaller than I had anticipated. It was also constantly extremely warm in my room, even though it was Sept/Oct. A fan was provided but did little to help. I am not sure all guests were aware dogs were allowed.. they should be to avoid the judgemental stares and comments at breakfast. Not sure whether I would say having to hand keys in every time I left the hotel was something I didn't like but it was strange, and I didn't like the fact that I had no option but to leave them on the desk at reception if it wasn't being manned at the time

Super friendly staff. Lovely room. Huge bed, really comfortable. Modern, clean, lovely atmosphere. Lovely evening meal, the bar man is brilliant, he certainly knows his way around a bar.

Breakfast was not as good as the Hotel. We had a coach party in and twice there were not certain things available on the menu. Breakfast is quite basic. I had a sausage sandwich, it was served on a plate, not even cut in half, really thin bread so it went very soggy. You have to pay for a special coffee. I asked for sour dough bread but they said no, even though sour dough was available with an egg and avocado.

The breakfast was very enjoyable with a great variety to suit all. The owner Michael and staff were very attentive and nothing was any trouble. The beds and towels were changed every day and no shortage of tea and coffee. Hairdryer, fan and iron and ironing board also in room and a very easy to use safe for valuables. Also had a minifridge with bottles of water which when used were replaced free of charge. The wedding we attended at Tunnel Beaches was very close to the Carlton Hotel which was a great choice of a place to stay as it was practically on their doorstep. Loved the location to the Harbour, literally under a 10 minute walk. Staff at the Carlton were all very well mannered and the night porter was a very personable gentleman. Loved the sweetie bowl at the service desk. Gym and library were also available to use although we didnt partake on our 4 night stay. Would definitely stay again. Highly recommended A++++++

I can't say that I disliked anything but would recommend perhaps a wee packet of biscuits which would compliment the tea and coffee in the room. ie Shortbread / Gingernuts. Nothing nicer than having a wee something to nibble on when having a wee cuppa.

It was a wonderful surprise from the friendly and professional staff to the cleanliness of the room, and as someone who stays in hotels all over Europe I always look for a hotel where the bed is comfortable and this hotel the beds were excellent with firm mattresses. I had heard of the quality of their breakfasts before and was not let down a great way to start the day. I had to leave early on a number of days and there was no problem in the staff accommodating me for breakfast. I think the best way to describe my views on the hotel is I will most definitely sty there again and will suggest it to friends and colleagues when they are in that area.

If there was one thing and this is not a complaint but a comment I had a single room and for me with all I had with me it was a little small.

This is a very comfortable hotel that has been modernised to a high standard. The room and bathroom were spotlessly clean, the bed very comfortable and the towels soft. The shower was powerful with plenty of hot water. Breakfast was plentiful and we ate in the restaurant one evening and being vegetarian they offered us extra dishes (a risotto) not on the menu - it was superb. Location was good - just a 2-3 minutes to a coastal view and the Landmark theatre and a further 5 minutes to the harbour. However this hotel's best asset is its staff - they are so friendly, obliging and knowledgeable.

We had a very spacious renovated room in the attic with a huge super king size bed and modern clean bathroom - the rooms have loads of mirrors, hanging space with hangars (again surprisingly rare) and a desk. No sticky carpets here. In our experience finding hotels las comfortable as this is difficult to in Devon/Cornwall - especially if you are bringing a dog. The hotel has been fully and consistently renovated throughout. Super clean and fragrant! The owners obviously really care about their hotel and their customers. Staff are super friendly and helpful. Also - the last time I went to Ilfracoome was in 1987. It has improved massively since my last visit: lovely wine bars, a genteel/slightly hipster/civilised type atmosphere - a high street full of independent shops - elegant Victorian architecture - one of the nicest towns on the costal path - definitely worth a visit.

Nothing. We have been walking the South West coastal walk anticlockwise with our dog. This was one of the best if not the best (certainly from value for money perspective) hotel for people with dogs (and without).

From the moment we walked through the door, to when we left the staff were fabulous, couldn’t do enough for our party ( which included 2 in their 90’s). The beds were very comfortable, and the linen excellent . The breakfast was top notch, with plenty of choice. We only ate in the Brassiere one evening ( due to many other excellent restaurants in the area) the food and service were excellent. Special mention to Michael the owner, very helpful and friendly.

Only bad points, incredibly lumpy pillows very cheap toilet paper and inconsiderate guests who can only slam doors with no thought for other hotel guests obviously not the hotels fault. Pillows and toilet paper an easy fix other guests out of hotels control. We were not put off the hotel at all and would happily stay again.

We had my son’s wedding at the tunnels which was literally right next door.so excellent hotel and excellent location.The staff were very friendly and professional. The rooms were large and very light furnishings were top end and very clean.Ensuite was all new and clean. Car parking out front was free and safe place for the car for a few days.All in all an excellent place to stay with a fantastic Full English breakfast to start the day off. Top marks.

Everything was fab no complaints at all

The hotel was easy to find, value for money, exceptionally clean. The bed was very comfortable, my room was at the front of the hotel overlooking the road and was quiet. A nice choice of breakfast food. Has a lift which is handy of you have mobility difficulties. Very friendly staff. It was a nice bonus having a bottle of water on day off arrival (in the fridge) and a bottle of water the next day. A very nice two day stay.

There is limited parking at the hotel, when full the residential roads are suggested, however when I arrived the hotel was full and no spaces in the roads near to the hotel. I had to park 15 minutes away which was tricky for me with suitcase, hold-all and handbag. I have respiratory issues making the walk to the hotel tricky. Maybe letting people who have similar health issues/disabilities know by writing on the hotel description.
