What a great place! We had not visited this area previously and were looking for an overnight stop on our way further east. We are so pleased that we chose the Talbot. This is a superb hotel right in the middle of Oundle yet with its own on-site parking and lovely, well kept gardens. Staff were very pleasant, attentive and efficient. The food was quite excellent. For dinner one of us had the liver while the other had a burger. Both were really good. We were introduced to the deep fried pickle- or 'frickle' as they called it. What a superb innovation. If you like pickles then this is for you. Our room was clean and very comfortable. For the money the value was excellent. Would definitely stay there again.

Our first impressions were very good. We parked our car and walked down the path towards reception. We saw people sitting outside the dining room and bar areas and this sheltered area was very warm and sunny. We stayed in room 101 and it was the size of an apartment. Great views of the path described above and the road at the front of the hotel. Our welcome at reception was nice and we settled in to our room. We met friends who live locally and had lunch at the cafe a few doors down the road. We then retired to relax and met our friends again early evening in the bar. We had a drink then went to the Turkish restaurant next door. Superb. We had a good nights sleep and a lovely breakfast in the morning. We would recommend this hotel if you want to treat yourself to some luxury as well as a great location for exploring the area.
All good.

Room was very clean and comfortable, had tv, radio, alarm clock, iron and ironing board. Dinner was good with a good selection of dishes and wines. Loved the staircase from the bar to the first floor, originally part of Fotheringhay Castle and said to have the ring imprint from Mary Queen of Scots where she gripped the balustrade as she made her way to her execution. Didn't encounter any ghosts!!! Well worth staying and good value for money, would definitely stay again. Staff were all very welcoming and helpful.
Had a slight problem with the toilet flush. No plumber was available so the problem was solved with the offer to use another empty room's facilities but we chose to use the bar toilets which were just along the corridor from our room and it was only for one night so no real problem.

A fantastic stay at the most fantastic, picturesque location! What a charming hotel, located in the heart of picture-perfect English village. The hotel itself is well maintained, with a beautiful patio area and formal garden. The staff was very friendly - we felt welcome. Rooms are very nice, spacious enough and very clean. Amenities are good, including personal touches. Bathroom was spacious and clean as well. We had a room overlooking the patio, which was quiet. Beds were very goods - as well as the two cushions. Food was excellent; traditional English cuisine, very well made and fresh. Breakfast (partially à la carte) was very tasy. Wifi was good. We will for sure come back.
Only minor points; no airconditioning (although we had a good night's sleep at the end of July). As the hotel has no private parking, you have to find a spot on the street.

We had a nice bedroom, albeit quite snug, but the bathroom was fabulous, clearly recently refurbed with both a bath and a separate shower cubicle. Food was delicious, both breakfast and dinner. Good parking for the car and all the staff were friendly and helpful.
We asked for a quiet room and for some reason they chose a garden room. There was a wedding the next day of our visit and it was held in the banqueting room in the garden. Fortunately we somehow managed to sleep through any noise, but we feel the hotel should be obliged to inform people if there is a wedding booked during their stay.

Nice comfortable room with a large bed, good shower and good tea and coffee making facilities. There was a very good choice of breakfast, and it was all great quality. Probably the best thing about the hotel, apart from the lovely building itself, is the staff, all of whom could not have been friendlier or more helpful.
Although there is a car park for residents behind the hotel, it's way too small for the size of the hotel, so you have to often park further up the road. On the plus side, even if you have to do this, if you find a parking space, it's free.

Room was comfortable, bathroom was large and well equipped, shower was powerful. Restaurant was great, food of good quality and generous. The hotel was beautiful too, a lovely change from the concrete block school of architecture loved by some hotel chains.
My wife found the bed a little soft for her liking but it was fine for me. The hotel car park is quite small for the size of the hotel and some parking spaces are under trees, which people in-the-know avoid. When we got back late and had to park in one of those, the next morning our car was covered in sap, bird poo and twigs.

On arrival I was given the jug of oat milk I'd requested. There was decaff tea and coffee in the room, as asked for. The coffee maker was divine The room had great character - beams and lovely, squeaky floorboards. There was a bath, which was great as the toiletry supply was really generous. We each had very deep, bubbly baths The linen was top rate and the bed big and comfortable. The furnishings were classy. The building itself is full f history and a delight to be in. The cocktails were good. The whole atmosphere was perfect.
Noting! Maybe a few more staff would have been a good idea. The team worked very hard but they could have done with a few more colleagues.

The hotel is beautifully maintained and spotlessly clean throughout with all the modern necessities whist cleverly retaining the feel of an olde worlde coaching inn. Our room was perfect, well appointed and with a very comfortable bed. All the staff were friendly, professional and efficient and the (free) on-site parking was safe and secure. Overall I could not believe what excellent value for money this place was and we were sad to leave. I suspect will will go back again.
Cannot think of anything that could have been better.
