When planning our trip we were only looking for good value accommodation with no frills, particularly as we would be out every day and only needing somewhere to eat, shower and grab a bite for breakfast. The Chequers is not a 5-star hotel, but a pub with rooms, and for this the price was good. Having never visited this area before we stayed for 3 nights on this occasion. The location was excellent for visiting Blenheim Palace, just 10 minutes away. In addition, the car journey to get to the nearest Oxford Park & Ride was also only 10 minutes away - and this was certainly the best way of getting into Oxford where traffic is awful, very slow in the city centre and also expensive to park. The Park & Ride bus runs until quite late in the evening, meaning you don't need to rush out of the city, but could stay for an evening meal or even a show before heading back to The Chequers. Chequers staff were friendly. The room was comfortable. Breakfast was sufficient (cereals, juice, toast and full english). The addition of this being a pub with rooms allowed for drinks in the bar in the evening, rather than the usual feeling of having to stay in your room. Meals were also served in the evening which we took advantage of on 2 of our 3 evenings. The indian menu/meal on our first night was much enjoyed. We went for the english "pub grub" menu on our second night which was fine (but not fine dining). For both nights the price for the meals charged was good. Overall we enjoyed our visit to Oxfordshire, and would plan to visit again in the future to re-visit Blenheim Palace (you definitely need 2 full days to see/do everything there, and the ticket covers you for return visits within the year so makes it good value). Oxford was great, too; deffo all about the university, (but then, so is Cambridge), and there is more to see next time.

Evenings - sport TV in the bar does not help lift the atmosphere; gentle music in the background would have been better (though not country music all of the time, please). If guests want to watch TV they can go back to their rooms. Candles, or even the rechargeable battery table candles would have added a warmth to the restaurant area with these on each table and along the window sills. Even if the wood-burner fire isn't lit, a red/orange light bulb placed within the fire would have added to the ambience of the lounge area of the bar as the evening darkened. Breakfast - music, or dare I say, even breakfast tv, would have lifted the atmosphere a little, just as some background noise, and to cover the noise coming from the kitchen.

I wasn’t sure what to expect when booking this place as was just using it as a base for f1 weekend so we were out a lot. BUT, we were very pleasantly surprised! This pub is a lovely little hidden gem with a very polite and accommodating owner, and our room was beautiful, extremely cozy and I had one of the best nights sleeps I’ve ever had, such a comfy bed! The whole room was also absolutely spotless as well. We really had a fantastic time and would definitely return in the future and make the most of enjoying it and the area!

Little cozy pub in amazing location, just next door to a beutiful church! Very pleased with a service, comfortable beds.

Rusty shower fittings and mildew was no to us.

Location of hotel was excellent - close proximity to Worton Hall where we attended a wedding. The room was warm and comfortable with a small but fully-functioning shower room ensuite. Proprietor was very welcoming at breakfast and keen to get the order right for everyone. Lovely olde worlde pub with rooms. Very flexible on return times in the evening. Nice people running the place.

A little up-dating of the ensuite would be nice, removal of scale and perhaps a little more soap in the dispensers (although adequate if you had forgotten your own!) A larger duvet which hangs down each side of the bed would be good.

The place had a very pleasant and cosy feel to it and it's rural location adds to that feel. The place is also a great location for a nights stay for visiting Oxford as it is very close by and very convenient. The staff and owners were very friendly and welcoming make the stay all the more pleasant and appealing. The food at breakfast and dinner was delicious and served very efficiently and the process of booking a table was very straightforward and easy in the restaurant. The room was very spacious and more than up to the standards expected and had lovely cosy feel to it. The beds were extremely comfortable and made for a lovely night's sleep.

Nothing everything was extremely excellent

Lovely property run by a lovely couple. Secure parking an absolute bonus. Friday night stayed at the hotel had a lovely meal, I went for the traditional Indian menu which was fantastic. Best home made samosas I’ve ever had and my girlfriend opted for the lasagne. Following day it was an easy uber into Oxford for some retail therapy and then on to see jimmy Carr at the new theatre. Hotel is ideal for town hoping far enough away from the hustle n bustle but close enough to be in town in 10mins. Defo going back again. The price is great.

Stayed here for a visit to Blenheim, and well what can we say? The customer service was absolutely incredible! This charming, family-run inn made us feel so welcome. We loved relaxing by the wood fire and enjoying the most amazing home-cooked curries. Nothing was ever too much trouble, and while the rooms could use a little updating, the exceptional hospitality more than made up for it. The location is perfect—just 10 minutes from Blenheim Palace but still in a peaceful village. We’ll definitely be back!

Few little bits but as I said the customer service made up for it .

The host's were very welcoming and could not do enough for us. We had a lovely Indian Meal cooked by our host which was all fresh,hot and tasted good. The village of Cassington is lovely and a good base to stay for Oxforxd City and other places of Intrest.

We stayed in the Twin Room which was nice but a few thing could be updated lighting was not great only one lamp for whole of the room and shower needs updating. Breakfast was fine but could do with using local produce, found sausage and bacon poor and bread for toast not great. Maybe a breakfast menu would add a nice touch too.

We stayed here for 2 nights whilst on a roadtrip holiday from Australia. Host was friendly and helpful, he even helped us carry our luggage upstairs. Room was a bit older and fairly bare but comfortable, clean, tidy. Food on site was good- we enjoyed Indian one night and Fish chips and Lasagna the second night. All were good servings. The shower was nice and hot. Wifi worked well. The free parking is good onsite Loved looking inside the 900 year old church right next door. Drove to the local Pear St Park n ride spot and caught the 300 bus into Oxford to explore the historical city centre. All in all a good stay here whilst visiting Oxford an Blenheim Palace.

Sink drained slowly, otherwise nothing to report.

Delightful, well kept inn run by charming hosts in the pretty village of Cassington. Alongside standard pub grub an authentic Indian menu available, all home cooked. A decent English breakfast included in price. Nice, clean room with neat little bathroom and comfy beds. Reasonably priced room rate for location, exceeded our expectations - especially the hosts who were most friendly and welcoming and the delicious Indian food - best we've eaten in a long time! Thank you.
