We were welcomed in quite a friendly way at the Islay Frigate even though the news we then got was slightly disappointing (see below), but we received very adequate compensation. The room we stayed in was, though tiny, clean and had such amenities as TV (which we didn't use) and hospitality tray. There was a fun fair going on right in front of the hotel, but they stopped at 11pm and we slept very well. Breakfast was fine and staff were always friendly.

Our stay at the Islay Frigate was overshadowed by the fact that the king size/en suite room that we had booked was in fact unavailable when we arrived. The reason was explained to us and quite understandable, but we would have liked to have been informed in advance that we would have to share the bathroom with five other people.

Staff are friendly and helpful. There are only 2 washrooms, but I always had a chance to use them when I wanted to, so no problem. In the previous comments I saw there was no elevator, but the stairs are OK for me because I did not have heavy luggages. The breakfast is also OK, I saw negative comments on breakfast in the past but I find it OK. I traveled from Kennacraig Terminal to this hotel with a taxi because it was 22:50 when the ferry would arrive and it was actually 22:50 when people eventually get on the bank. The taxi costs 17 pounds which was fare because it was not a short trip and the gentleman who drove the taxi came from a far away place and needed to go back. Overall a good place to stay, The next morning I went to Campeltown by bus which is nearby, and I felt the neighborhood pretty friendly.

The Islay Frigate is a small accommodation above a bar and restaurant but you don't hear noise from patrons below. The room is old but well appointed. It has enough plugs to keep your toys powered up. The bathroom is small but has everything you need. The best thing about this hotel is how nice the staff is. We had paid for breakfast but needed to leave at 5:30am to catch a ferry. They made to go bags for us with pleasure. It was a good stay. If you have issue with climbing stairs you need to consider there will be stairs to climb.

Excellent location with a lovely view over looking the harbour with our room. From old reviews wasn't expecting much but the room was a decent size, comfy bed, tea/coffee facilities with biscuits, etc. Ensuite was smallish but the electric shower was good. Breakfast was decent with a few options. Nice bar that locals use, friendly barman. No sports on TV. Good beer garden out back and benches in the front but cars tended to spoil view of the harbour.

The room was lovely. Views over the harbour were amazing. Location was great, not too far from the ferry landing from Ardrossan. Staff were lovely, very helpful.

Breakfast was reasonable but some extras like yogurt and fruit would have been good especially if not keen on a full cooked breakfast. Although the room was great and clean, the ensuite was not as clean as it could have been as the floor and skirtings were grubby. A missing shelf above the sink was a loss as we had to use the toilet seat lid to put things on when brushing teeth etc.

The room was warm and cosy. The decor was nice, the bedding was lovely and the pillow was fantastic! Just what we needed after a long day travelling. I was just disappointed that we had to leave early to catch a ferry and didn't get to try the breakfast. I rang up to check in late and staff were very helpful, they even came to open the door for me at 2am. Could not have asked for better service, definitely stay again

The location was perfect as we were coming back from a ferry from Islay. The hotel was way better than I expected. Staff very helpful and obliging. Breakfast great and cost of stay very good. We knew we were booking a shared bathroom and this was no problem. Everything clean and little extras in the rooms.

I visited with my son on a short cycle trip. I loved the location on the harbour-front of this lovely Scottish town. The room was small and simple but excellent for us. I thought that the accommodation combined with the included breakfast was very good value indeed. The staff were very friendly, the owner very hands-on but unobtrusive. When I checked in the lady asked if it was just for the one night and I immediately wished it was for more. Highly recommended.

We sent an e.mail asking for a little something to acknowledge the couple with us only being married the day before, they seemed to know nothing about it. We sent direct and through booking.com

Didn't get breakfast as I was leaving very early. They offered me a packed lunch to pick up on the way out... and didn't leave one. However, staff were really welcoming, the bar was great and the room was good, wifi in there too... will stay again
