Knap house was great accomodation in the heart of Tarbert. Our room looked out over the harbour and up to the castle. We used Knap as our base to explore the area all the way down to the Mull of Kintyre - awesome area. Our room had everything we needed and more but I was especially impressed by the environmental credentials of this property. The owner had taken care of installing thermostatic heating controls and electrical management that is a real indication of a commitment to reduce energy but all the while making sure comfort did not suffer. If everyone did what Alan at Knap has done we would reduce an enormous amount of energy. He should be commended for this. One amazing example was the water temperature. It was set exactly right so as not to waste hot water cooling it down. Great attention to detail. Thanks to Alan and the team for looking after us so well.

Absolutely brilliant place to stay. The room was lovely, so spacious, loved the view in the window was amazing. The touches were must appreciated, the wine, cheese, milk, biscuits. Everything was so clean! The towels were so soft! Loved playing monopoly in the window. Would have loved to use the fire if it was colder. The bed was so comfy, the sheets were really nice. The breakfast in the morning was so well presented and really great. Loved the decor. Felt at home right away. Alan was lovely and friendly and made us feel very welcome.

Nothing! Wish we could have stayed longer 😊

The excellent location. Free parking in street opposite the building or plenty of places close by. Its cleanliness, room facilities( twin room in loft area), view of the harbour from side window. Small breakfast delivered to room on tray in the morning- previously having completed an order form on arrival & leaving it outside bedroom door. Proprietor assisted us with carrying our 2 suitcases down to the hallway prior to us leaving.

Being elderly, the 32 steps it took to get to our room struggling to carry 2 heavy suitcases as well. We did not notice any warning of this at the time of booking & would probably have chosen a different type of room had we know !

An excellent and spacious room, with sitting area as well as bedroom and a great view over the loch/harbour at Tarbert. Very clean and well furnished. Good bolt hole in rainy weather!

Breakfast (delivered to room) pretty ordinary. Minimal contact with owners, as it is managed remotely, and no room servicing during stay or replenishment of tea, coffee, milk (and needed some facilities for washing up in these circumstances). It has more of a feel of self-catering accommodation rather than a guest house; we didn’t feel that the owners wanted much to do with their clients.

In the centre of the town, easy walking distance to restaurants, very clean and lovely decoration internally. Alan is not on site but he came straight over to meet us when we rang to say we arrived. He is very friendly and helpful.

Whist it didn’t bother us because we needed to leave early, there is no dining room and breakfast is simple, delivered on a tray to the room. There are no staff on site.

The location is excellent. Our chosen restaurant (Lullabelles) was also just a short stroll along the harbour. We had looked at the house in Google beforehand, so we found the entrance immediately. The "reception" is very unusual: you ring the bell, it buzzes and at the entrance there is a small plastic bag with a key - that's it. The suite is large and very nicely decorated. The Shiraz provided was excellent, nice idea. We had something similar in Oban, there it was a good sherry (it's also Scotland :-) ). You order breakfast with a note, which you put in a box until the evening. The "roll" mentioned there is a kind of burger bun with the chosen topping. In the morning, breakfast is then handed over briefly. It was only when we said goodbye that we had brief contact and were able to say thank you for the pleasant stay.

The e-mail contact beforehand took some getting used to. First there was the detailed description, among other things, that you should choose breakfast between 07:30 and 08:30. Nothing more was said about this in this message. We then sent our choices back in the response. Then, under the comment "You may have seen it..", there is also the addition that you write the time later on a piece of paper and put it in the box in front of the door by 8 p.m. at the latest. Should have been better in the first description.

Spotlessly clean, good size room and bathroom, powerful shower,, tasteful decor, central location, lovely view from the window, breakfast in your room, easy key fob system for entry to the building. This little town is lovely, the weather was great which made it even better. There's a park area a short distance away from the guest house with picnic tables overlooking the harbour and adult exercise equipment. Prentice Seafoods is a must if you want to buy fresh fish or shellfish. The Coop is next to the guest house and there are plenty of places to eat. Parking is nearby along the waterfront.

We enjoyed our short stay here but just a few things that brought our review score down: the stairs are very steep, the mattresses were uncomfortable for our liking and we could hear too much noise from other guests and, what we think was, the boiler or heating during the night.

Lovely spacious accommodation, comfortable bed and furnitue, nice touch with wine, cheese and crackers.

Breakfast was adequate but limited. For the price, we would have expected more. Nowadays, freshly brewed coffee is standard in most places. Also, a broader range of breakfast items would have been appreciated, e.g. Cereal range, vegetarian sausage, brown rolls instead of white.

Really spacious, clean and welcoming room. Breakfast served in the room is a nice thing. The room we had faced the marina so we had a great view. Parking was easy to find and free. Alan provided lots of information so we knew exactly where to go for dinner etc.

If you go monday to Wednesday you need to plan dinner as only very few places open and they are usually fully booked.

We hired a taxi to take us from Glasgow airport to Tarbert for the morning ferry Kennicraig to Islay. The room was clean, hotel location great near the bay. We walked around the town, had a delicious dinner nearby. The Hotel provided breakfast, before we departed in the morning. Lovely.

I did not know that I needed to schedule a taxi in advance to get to the ferry terminal.
