The Three Wheat Heads was an excellent location, with Cragside nearby and Rothbury. Our room (for a 3-night stay) was comfortable, spotlessly clean, and spacious( we had twin beds in a family room also containing a large double bed). It was lovely to have a bath as well as a separate shower. Breakfast was great—loads of choices, including options for vegetarians. Everything was cooked to order ( if opting for a cooked breakfast) using locally sourced produce. The bacon was particularly tasty. One of the main reasons we selected this inn was for the food. We had eaten there previously whilst staying in Elsdon. The menu was extensive and varied, and the food fabulous. We even ordered a selection of starters one night to create a tapas feast. And let's not forget the staff who were friendly, engaging, helpful and consistently good-humoured over a busy Easter weekend. We will be back!

No issues.

The Three Wheat Heads is a proper village inn, with friendly locals and staff, superb views over beautiful countryside and located minutes from an easy quick walk along the River Coquet. The food is very good, there’s an excellent range of breakfast choices to set you up for the day. We really enjoyed our evening meals too, the menu options cover all tastes. Our room had a lovely view and a comfortable king size bed. The electric shower was spacious, warm, efficient - everything in the ensuite looked brand new. The supplied linen and towels were good quality and even included a face flannel. Small things, but there is a sense of attention to detail here.

The pub bar sofas are a bit dog-eared. Probably because they’ve been well used by many locals and visitors. They are still comfortable to relax in after a days walking and touring.

Nicely located in the middle of a quiet picturesque village, so very easy access. It's a fairly large property giving lot of dining space and a separate pub area to enjoy. Decor is well fitting. There is ample free parking just in front of the property. Room was well organised, clean and warm with central heating on. Staff were very welcoming, courteous and helpful.Seems they wanted you to "be happy" there. We had dinner at night, minted lamb was nicely cooked and portion size pretty sumptuous. Sam was serving us, kept coming to ensure we got all we wanted. Next morning's breakfast was even better with choice (Kipper and all the rest of full english). Surrounding area has great riverside walk just behind this property. Overall a great team of George is fantastic!

Having few cocktails available in bar would have been better

Fabulous food with a large menu choice. Reasonable prices too. The room was warm and comfortable with a comfy bed. Great view of Simon side too.Gail the owner was lovely and friendly and James the head barman was very helpful and chatty. It is an old building with bags of character which could be improved with just a couple of changes. Updating the seating in the bar area and a change of carpet in the restaurant would look fantastic.Breakfast was plentiful and varied. A Nespresso machine would be great for coffee choices.Sunday roasts were extra special.Great choice of meats and plenty of fresh vegetables and the Lamb Kleftico was amazing!😋 Thanks for making our stay special. We would definitely recommend and return.

Our shower was a bit noisy but Gail said this was going to be replaced soon. Not a fan of Jack Rabbit wine so more wine choices would be good.

The family room was more than big enough, a very comfortable size. Two single beds and a double. Lovely little views on the nighttime when the village was lit up with Christmas lights and the little church that was lit inside. The bathroom was large, everything you needed was there, it was practical, had a separate bath and shower. A hairdryer was in the room in the dressing table draw. A stand height fan was available. Beautiful mattresses, plenty of pillows and extra throws available in the wardrobe, if needed. We had fab sleeps. Each bed had their own set of complimentary toiletries set out with a choice of towels. The largest towel was a bath sheet which isn't always the case but this was well thought out and much appreciated. We only had breakfast and it was fantastic. There was an extensive selection. They were very happy to adjust items where possible. The ingredients were of high quality, not the cheaper end and the plate of good reflected this. We only saw one member of staff with it being Christmas but she was great, couldn't do more to help. The chef produced a great breakfast to start the day. The establishment is dog friendly, so rooms were fine to keep dogs in. There's 2 sides to the pub, one dog friendly and one not. The one that dogs can't go in has the most spectacular views and you can access them if you do have dogs by a side gate. Overall, would certainly recommend.

(If there was one tiny thing I'd change and that is a plumper duvet on the double bed.)

We stayed mid week 25-27 September 2024. Exceptional value for money. Double room (we stayed in Room3) was much bigger than your standard double room with two chairs, wardrobe, dressing table, bedside tables and a large toilet/shower room. Window overlooked the enclosed beer garden to the rear which was ideal for letting our Lab run off her led without fear of the road. Meals were exceptional and reasonably priced with substantial portions. ( I actually had a starter with a portion of hand cut chips as my main as I am not a big eater.) Hubby had the roast dinner and we both had dessert, a few drinks and total cost was less than £50 ! Very reasonable. Bar area had lovely leather chesterfield sofas for comfy drinkers and table for diners and with no TV's was lovely and relaxing. At the time of booking we didn't realise that cabin was in operation but the Landlady was kind enough to take me out and show me. Well equipped and heated with a decking area, table and chairs( sun loungers too cold and wet to use LOL) It has it's own separate access which means you can come and go without entering the bar area if you prefer. Will definitely stay again and book the cabin.

The wet weather! Not that anyone could have done anything to sort that but will definitely be back in better weather

Lovely big family room with two single beds for the children Most family rooms these days only offer bunk beds, but this room is so big it easily accommodates two single beds and a king-size bed which are very comfortable. Very spacious bathroom with a bath and a shower. Ample towels, face cloths and toiletries provided. The room was also spotless and had everything you needed. We used the restaurant, which was very good and there's plenty of options including vegetarian and vegan. The childrens menu is also very good and breakfast was of a high standard. Everyone was very helpful and James even helped carry our luggage. We never used the bar, but it seems very popular. There's ample parking and the location and views are fabulous. It's ideal for visiting Cragside, Northumberland etc.

great communication from the hotel before our stay and a friendly welcome and showed straight to our room on arrival, (even though we were later arriving than we'd anticipated due to an unforeseen travel delay). It's great place for food (both breakfast and evening meal were piping hot and very tasty & well priced). all served with quick & friendly but not over fussy service which allowed us to relax. The lady serving us breakfast (sorry I'm terrible with names) but I'll say she's ex-dungiven and she'll know who I'm talking about, she gave us great advice on the Cragside location we were in the area to visit and this info enhanced our days visit to cragside. The room had almost everything we needed for our nights stay and if I'm back in the locality I'd definitely stay here again or even if just passing close by I'd call in for just some food. Overall great value for the room including breakfast and an enjoyable stay, thanks.

If I had anything I'd want to change about the three wheat heads stay or even recommend to them to change it would be the pillows in the room (sorry to say but they were all flat and offer no support/comfort at all). Would it stop me from coming back and staying overnight here again - a resounding NO IT WOULDN'T

Breakfast was substantial and very well cooiked. For me a delight to be offered fried bread! Dinner was exceptional. I had minted lamb and it was special.

This is a 300 year old rural building which has been adapted to modern living. It is situated in the beautiful coquet valley with stunning views of the simonside hills . The rear of the building has seen better days. Don't expect frills but the overall product is a solid, value for money experience..

Staff were really friendly and welcoming with a good atmosphere. The bed was very comfortable and clean so we had a really good sleep. The breakfast was amazing, a bit big for me, maybe offer a small English also but we couldn't fault it.

Just a small gripe as we did enjoy our stay. Although they were ok, the dishes on the evening menu didn't really match what we expected. The starters were lovely but the main courses let them down. For instance the lasagne had no sauce, and we couldn't see any pasta. The bechamel looked more like grated cheese. The sizzling plate was chicken and a creamy style sauce which didn't have any onions/peppers and didn't sizzle, the meal was mainly chips and rice. The kleftiko was just slow cooked lamb which was very tender but it wasn't kleftiko. If continental dishes are on a menu they should be authentic.
