The staff were verywelcoming and fun to interact with. They helped us find locations in Hile and gave helpful directions.

The only problem was the presence of unsupervised children. This was a serious problem in the pool area. The pool is intended to be a quiet, restful, and tranquil environment. Several times there were unruly children shouting, running, using water guns, and jumping in the pool. It makes for an unsafe environment for older persons or those with disabilities. Either the hotel should be restricted to "adults only" or there should be staff available to supervise.

Easy check in- easy check out! Friendly staff- clean safe property. Ease on a room move due to having 2 young children and didn’t want to carry them and articles up 3 flights of stairs. Appreciate the helps Ivonne. She was very understanding.

2nd room, 2 nites, checked in and bathroom sink was clogged. Had a maintenance person came at nite to unclog sink then he came also the next day since small children was in room and needed rest. Not a big deal, things happens with an older building. I Understand coming from working in the Travel industry too. ( Hskpg Mgr.-ret.)

SCP Hotel Hilo is an absolute gem! We had a very wonderful four nights here. Loved the pool area, loved the staff. We got some really great tips about how and when to watch the volcano erupt from the staff. The rooms were clean and tidy and of a good size. The bathroom was light and airy. We loved the shared spaces, especially by the reception area overlooking the koi pond. Across the road is a great swimming beach with all sorts of fish and turtles. Other guests enjoyed paddleboarding from the beach across the road. We also really loved the ethos of the hotel, and the community action your stay is contributing too. Can't wait to come back!

There is no in house dining/ room service attached to the hotel so you needed to leave to get breakfast etc. This was not a problem as right next door was a restaurant and close by were lots of other eating options. We can recommend Millie's for sandwiches and Ponds.

You might want to work on installing an elevator. For a single woman dragging 2 suitcases upstairs is too much. The bed was too soft I don’t like cashless places because I come from a foreign country and I put an effort to obtain from my bank your American money, carry your money with me across the world and you in your own country refuse to take it. I wonder how it’s even legal. If you want to cater for international tourists, consider some flexibility. Especially for countries whose bank cards are blocked in USA. Instead of 2 bicycles in the gym maybe could have 1 treadmill and 1 bicycle, just a suggestion

The hotel is far from the Hilo city centre, it is recommended to have a car or a taxi. There is one restaurant just next to the hotel and some other quite near it, so if you don't really plan to stay in Hilo centre, think about this hotel. The rooms are very nice, had everything we needed, comfy beds, fridge, we were in a refurbished one, without a TV but it did not bother us and we were warned about it by the staff when checking in. Speaking about the staff, super friendly, super nice and helpful. Outside of the room was a small garden, we enjoyed our own breakfast each morning sitting right next to it. We also rented bikes - super easy. We enjoyed the 24h free coffee (best in my opinion in Big Island), we less enjoyed the one free kombucha but i's just not our taste. The airport is near but we did not noticed much of the noise, especially in the evening.

There are not a lot of choices when you have to stay on the Hilo side of the island , my mom lives on the Hilo side I always have a hard time deciding where to stay. I have maybe stayed at every property downtown Hilo and I have found this to be my home. I love the facility. The people are so kind that work there. The hotel is older and from the back side looks like it might me rundown .. but the renovations in the past have really made it a enjoyable place to stay The pool is fantastic it’s just a really casual down to earth vibe . The staff couldn’t be more helpful!! I really enjoyed my stay .. I will always stay at the SCP when I visit Hilo.

Maybe the ice machine keep being empty every time i went to get ice ! I finally had to purchase a bag at Walmart. But that’s not the end of the world..

The rooms and the entire hotel are well cleaned and beautiful. Towels are new and fluffy. the photos are taken when i check out.

(As a premise, I like to clean very much.) The shelves above the vanity were too large and the vanity was very difficult to use. When I checked in, there was a very very small weak winged insect in the room, which I removed by swatting it with a newspaper I had. The screen of window was new, so maybe they went in through the door when they cleaned room? That's my guess. The bed mattress was a little too soft for me.

This place is always here for us! We've been between homes and had to stay here for a few nights and they made it easy to extend and showed compassion for our challenges. Next, my son got sick and they were very understanding and helpful with the mess he made, bringing extra sheets and towels when needed. Finally, I broke my leg and they so kindly gave us a handicap room near the pool so my son could swim and I wouldn't have to go far. We had a bunch of stuff in our car we had to leave in storage for a few days as well, and they were helpful with that. Everyone was so friendly and helpful.

We had a great stay here. We were placed in what was considered the quietest part of the hotel with the most upgraded rooms and our room was very nice. It did not have a TV but that wasn't an issue for us. The AC worked really well, it was quiet enough that we slept well, and we had a fridge which was convenient. The only microwave was in the lobby though. The bathroom was small but nice. The toilet had a bidet which my husband was a big fan of. It was a bit pricey for three nights here but we were here during Christmas so I expected that. Overall, I would stay here again!

It would have been nice to have a microwave in our room, but we only needed it once so no big deal. I think the room could have been slightly cleaner as I noticed a couple of hairs in the shower, but I travel often and rarely, if ever, find a hotel room that is perfectly clean.

Very close to the airport. Really friendly staff. I did not realize the sustainability efforts of the SCP brand when we booked, but this added to the good feeling of our stay. The room was clean and the beds comfortable. There was free gated parking. We spent a lot of time at the pool which had a really nice seating area and a beautiful buddha statue adding to a serene feel. I also strongly recommend the Lomilomi massage at Malama Honua Massage Therapy. We ate several meals at the restaurant next door, Coconut Grill, which had amazing food (my first time trying Lau Lau) and really beautiful local art depicting Hawaiian legends.
