We ate dinner at the lodge at Uncle George's Lounge. Food was great however PRICEY! We got a table by the window overlooking the crater and actually saw it turn orange and "flame up" briefly which was exciting. The rooms are super basic but it is a historic place so that's the charm. The fireplaces were both going and lots of people stirring around. There is complimentary mimosas on arrival and cookies in the evening; fresh coffee in the lobby in the morning. Nice touches!! Two gift shops in the hotel as well. :) We had King room overlooking crater - very cool! (although full window screens made it difficult to get decent pics) Nice large closet for all your stuff.

Really everything was good - would've been neat to have had some decor upstairs in hallways - such as historic photos like downstairs, or something! It was just all bare white walls. No biggie, just kinda blah! Also would've been nice to have had an extra chair in our room.

So this is a historic lodge type facility and it was exactly what we signed up for - charming. I am sure that back in the day it was a luxurious place. What has not changed is the location, right on the volcano's edge. Rooms were not modern but clean, and comfortable. The bed was welcome and comfy after a long day of travel. Food was good for the breakfast buffet but not anything extravagant. Michelle at the front desk gets a shout out. She treated everyone like a personal friend.

We thought that the smoke in the place was from the volcano. Turns out it seems to be from the wood burning fireplace. Cough.

The location is great because it is inside the park. You can easily hike to different trails by staying here. We had a Deluxe Triple Room booking for 3 people. It had great view overlooking the crater. But the room carpet needs major change. It was old and stained. Did not make us comfortable walking on it on barefoot. Same applies to the hotel common area carpet. The buffet breakfast is $19/adult and the options were good. They had a person preparing omelets of your choice. They also had a coffee shop and a nice gift shop. The lobby area got crowed from noon, mostly because park visitors chose to dine at the Volcano House. There were people hanging around till late evening (dinner reservations) in the lobby because of the great view the Volcano House offers. This made seating a challenge for Volcano House residents in the lobby area and it was loud too. Parking was a challenge for Volcano House Residents because of the Park Visitors and dining crowd. They need to work on that.

The carpet in the room and in the hotel was old and stained. Parking was the worst scenario. The lobby was always crowded from noon till late evening.

If you have stayed in other National Park hotels and prioritize the amazing views and proximity to the park, you will LOVE Volcano House. While National Park hotels, including Volcano House, are typically historic and lacking in technology and some amenities - what you gain in connection to the park makes it a perfect place to stay when visiting Volcanoes National Park. The restaurants, gift shop, and fireplace were phenomenal. I would absolutely stay there again.

If you are someone who prefers modern hotels and technology - you may not be happiest in this hotel. I personally think this adds to Volcano House's charm.

Great location to enjoy Volcano National Park and best location for Eruption Viewing without hiking. Breakfast is great value. Rooms were clean and well prepared.

Front desk staff who checked us in at night didn’t provide any helpful information about available guest amenities, room features, wasn’t even sure of where our room was. The hotel is costly for the value.

We enjoyed the menu at the bar, the free coffee station, and the complimentary minosa was a lovely touch. The ability to hike the rim after dark was fantastic, but experiencing episode 25 was priceless.

Could use free water stations, as we really appreciated that benefit at all the other hotels we stayed at on the four islands. There was also very little hot water in the shower.

The service in their restaurant was terrible. Slow to take our order and slow to bring our food. Buffet breakfast waiter asked if we wanted coffee and cream. Yes we did. Coffee arrived, but cream arrived after coffee had grown cold. Really, how hard is it to carry a small pitcher of cream. At dinner weren't told about the specials. Food was marginal. But the view of the volcano was amazing

Location on rim of volcano ideal for viewing volcanic activity. Room supplied with hair dryer, emergency light, night light, double door locks, screened windows, blackout curtains, good menu selection in Rim Restaurant. Parking limited since closing of nearby visitors center on February 17. VC will be closed for two plus years for remodeling.

Bed firmer than expected. Limited parking.

Great location and view.

Rooms were rustic but fine. Dinner at the volcano house was the only real negative. Dinner came out 80 minutes after ordering. My steak was half undercooked and half overcooked. No real acknowledgment from a manager or staff for the issues. Restaurants can have a bad night but I was disappointed in the lack of accountability.

Simple breakfast elevated by outstanding Kau Coffee Mill coffee and made to order omelets. The location of course is beyond unbeatable. We knew this is a basic hotel though at the end of the day staying here was very worthwhile.

The safe was useless as the keys did not work reliably. Wish there were at least a second chair in the room.
