NIce to have access to kitchen and living room in addition to our bedroom. The yard is very pretty with tropical plants. We only saw/ meet the owner Diana once, but she was welcoming and leaves lots of notes around with instructions. The bed was king sized and comfortable. We had a mini fridge in our room and a designated parking spot. There is a light up sign to help us see where to turn into the driveway since you can't see the house from the road.. We stayed 3 nights as a base for exploring Volcano NP and up and down the east coast of Hawaii. Great time!
The bathroom is shared with 2 other rooms (up to 5 people). There were only 4 at the time of our stay, and unfortunately for us, we seemed to have the same schedule so always ended up having to wait a while to shower at night. There is another room that has its own bathroom, and had I known that, we would have preferred to book that room. Be aware also that you're required to remove shoes inside the house, which we do at home as well, but I know it's not everyone's style. Also, lots of tiny ants everywhere in kitchen despite everything being very clean. Those are hard to avoid I a rainforest of Hawaii. None in room, but important to not have food in room.

The house is very comfortable and the hosts are very welcoming. I had the smallest room in the house and it fit my needs in all respects. The house was very quiet and clean as well which I liked.
This is NOT a reflection of the house or room. This was a reunion trip for me after being away from Hilo for 2 years and I came prepared for the Coqui frogs (using a white noise app on my phone). If you have never been to Hawai'i Island before or just stayed at the Kona resorts you need to prepare for the loud chirp of the invasive Coqui frogs at night. Their chirp (which sounds like they are saying "coqui?") might keep you up if you are a light sleeper. When I lived in Hilo for over 13 years, this was always an issue and there is no place in Eastern Hawai'i Island that you can get away from them. Just be prepared.

The room and the property in general exceeded what I thought I was getting. Room was comfortable and had everything I needed. Property was in a neighborhood so was generally quiet. It's a place with 4 or 5 units, I was in a room that appeared to be a master bedroom, there were smaller rooms available for less money that had a common use bathroom. Every time I walked by the common bathroom it was available so I think for someone staying in one of the other rooms access to the bathroom would not have been a problem. Some rooms had a deck where you could get a view of the area. Downstairs was a common kitchen and living room area. Recommend for sure, I would absolutely stay here again if I was in the area.
Nothing major comes to mind as a negative, this was a solid place. But bottled water or small paper cups in the room would have been a bonus as I needed to take some meds and it was hard to get a glass of water in the room. It might have been available downstairs but I didn't check. Parking was fine for me but might be tight if you have a very large vehicle.

The house was large, nice kitchen with everything you needed. We had the master bedroom with a private bathroom which was great. It is a large room and comfortable. Water was hot and had good pressure. Had a private little fridge. Diana the owner was available, nice, and helpful. Check in easy.
Well, we didn't know how rainy Hilo would be. Nothing to do with the property itself of course. There was an ant issue in the house, very tiny ants pretty much everywhere. I know it is hard to battle those things in a climate like this. It didn't really bother us but might be a no-go for some people.

This location was great. I love Hilo and if I ever visit this area again, I would stay here. Diane was an excellent host and the facilities are fantastic, clean and well organized. The place is a great value.
If I stay here again I'll make sure to reserve the one room with its own bathroom. Sharing a bathroom with the other two rooms wasn't horrible, in fact one of the nights of our stay we had the bathroom to ourselves as the other two rooms were empty, it's just a personal preference.

This home had everything we needed. Loved being off the main road and listening to the rain and the chirping of birds and frogs. Loved the beautiful garden and the host shared fruit that was grown on the property. Absolutely recommend this place for couples or a small family. The host was so kind and welcoming and made us feel right at home.
Other guest woke us up one morning by rolling their suitcases down the ramp on our side of the home. Doors and windows are left open due to no AC so this was the only time we had a negative about the home. This was not the fault of the host, just other guest not being considerate.

The Hawaiin Ohana house is a comfortable, clean, relaxing home stay in a family oriented neighborhood. It is centrally located to the many wonderful parks, waterfalls and volcanoes to explore around Hilo and an easy drive to the markets ,beaches, restaurants and attractions in town. The host ,Diana ,is very attentive to her guests and manages the property very competently and professionally. It was a pleasure to stay here and there is no better value to be found on the Big Island. This place feels like home and I would definitely return here again.

The studio was comfy, super clean and every single detail was taken care of. We woke up to the soothing sound of rainfall with birds singing amongst lush green forests. The owner was friendly and very welcoming. She gave us fresh papaya in the morning and bid us goodbye with a very cute calender as a souvenir. The cherry on top of the cake is the affordable pricing. This place is bang for your buck! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will definitely come back!

I really liked all the things available to the tenants, a mini fridge for each room, the kitchen, dishes provided for each room, fresh fruits! The house and property were lovely! I loved seeing the thriving garden and all the pretty plants/flowers! The front door has a keypad lock on it so it's always safe! You don't have to worry about people that are not staying there coming into the home. The staff were all very friendly as well! Diana was absolutely wonderful to me! I knew absolutely nothing about the area I was in but hoping to be able to go for a walk and she didn't just let me know it was safe, she also told me about a nice walking area just around the corner! She also made me feel very safe given my situation of why I had to find a place to stay ( I had to leave my friends house due to safety issues). I had a great experience there!
I'm not used to the little bugs that like to come in to find food so they bothered me at first, but I was easily able to get over them! I've had to deal with ants here at home but the bugs there were smaller and there were more of them, but they didn't really cause me any problems like ants would.

Very clean and comfortable. My room had everything I needed. I travel solo and felt very comfortable. They property is all around beautiful! Diana is super rad and very down to earth. House expectations for guests are very clear and Diana is so helpful if there are any questions.
The last morning there was some heavy footed occupants, but that really has nothing to do with Ohana Home.
