I loved the hotel, it is old style Hawaiian, 3 floors, no elevator (friendly and helpful folks to assist with your bags if you need or want it), no air conditioning which I prefer, ceiling fan and standup fan, perfect for sleeping. My lanai was a nice size with two chairs and a small table. Screen door which I used every night. I was on the 3rd floor with a view of hotel pool and Hilo Bay as well as the beautiful beach park which runs along the bay & the port of Hilo. As a woman alone I felt quite as home, the lobby was very comfortable, some folks hanging out and reading, others playing a game, families, everyone saying hello and goodbye. It’s a family run business and I certainly felt very welcome and like I was part of the family.

I liked everything, there was nothing not to like about this lovely spot on the Hilo Bay.

Very nice place great value. Lots of stairs. 3 floors no elevator no air conditioning. But your not paying 240.00 to 300.00. They are a pretty good deal. Great view, pool, coke machine. Right next to a very nice beach park Reeds bay good swimming great views and you might get to see a crews ship pulling in to port and the largest Japanese garden outside of Japan. Right on hilo bay. The hole community uses this beautiful place. Plenty of places to eat near by a big variety to choose from. Try Ken's houses of pancakes. You won't be disappointed. And the hole staff is the best allways friendly and very accommodating.... stayed there 4 times allways good.

It was a very clean room with a kitchen. They have a drip coffee maker but you have to get your own supplies, maybe there’s some at the front desk but I didn’t ask. The internet was hard to get a signal, they should consider using starlink instead of what they have now.

The lock on the room itself was incredibly flimsy, I could have easily have kicked the door in with little effort. And there wasn’t even a safe in the room, I ended up taking all my valuables with me every time I left the room. I did feel somewhat unsafe with that loose door with the old lock and the old fashioned chain!

The water was hot, the pillows, mattress, sheets, and towels were clean and comfortable. The TV and WIFI were adequate and functional. There was a working microwave, fridge, freezer, coffee maker. Lighting was decent, ceiling fan worked well. There were two decent chairs and a table on the balcony. The front desk lady was pleasant and cooperative with an olde school check-in process. Parking was adequate. The pool was small, but clean and adequate. The famous surfing beach, Honoli'i, is only 2 miles, 3 klicks away and the awesome and stunning Laupāhoehoe Public Park is only 27 miles, 44 klicks away.

The 'sea view' was a stretch. It was more of a 'bay view' with no beach, but a boulder seawall (baywall). The view was nice, but downtown was a long walk or a short drive (about a mile or two klicks).

Like many of the buildings in Hawaï, the hotel building has worn out feel, but the rooms are well maintained, clean, and the bed super comfortable. The staff was very helpful and welcoming. We didn't use the swimming pool. There are so many wonderful beaches closeby which we preferred to go to instead. The hotel is very well located, just a few steps away from the Hilo garden, which is a very wandering about.

I don't think this is specific to this place; the prices on the Big Island are just super high. Calibrated to the offerings in Hawaï, the Reeds Bay Hotel is a very good place.

Location and price were incredible. We were on the second floor, so not having an elevator was no big deal. The sound of the ocean waves crashing was a great way to wake up. With the ocean breeze, the A/C was definitely not necessary. Close to tons of great restaurants and coffee shops. Wifi was slow in the mornings but still worked, and worked great at night. It worked in our room just fine. We didn't need to; the lobby staff was incredible; the rooms were clean and comfortable.

I loved it! The property was tucked away by the bay, and hearing the water splash on the shoreline daily was wonderfully relaxing and refreshing. The view of the bay was beautiful as well. The staff was amazing and friendly, always helpful and accommodating for a solo traveler like myself. I’m so glad I checked into this place after a disappointing experience at an Airbnb earlier that same day. While Hawaii is known for its charm, the Airbnb I stayed at initially had none of it, so I canceled and booked this fine hotel last minute. Here, they treat their customers with kindness and respect.

It’s right on the water! The view from our room was amazing, especially knowing the room rate was cheap compared to the ritzy resorts. We liked that it was a local hotel, that we were in a place that was real Hawaii, if that makes sense. Sure it looks old, but when you take a step back and look at it, it was a super cute hotel that felt like Hawaii. The workers were really friendly and so were the guests; everyone said hello in passing. I’m not sure why everyone is complaining about it having no AC - you genuinely don’t need it! The “Hawaiian AC” worked perfectly at night - keeping the windows open to get the breeze, with the room fan on to circulate it. And the sound of the waves breaking on the coast helped put us to sleep.

The shower was a little small and the shower head was mounted a bit low.

This property is great for travelers that are looking for an ocean view (Hilo Bay) in a property that is smaller with a vintage vibe. Our room had a kitchenette with a provided electric fry pan (no stove or oven). Good water pressure in the shower. No AC, but the room had an overhead fan plenty of windows (corner room) and a sliding glass door that gave us good cross ventilation. We also enjoyed watching the cruise ship come in and out of the bay during our stay.

The property could use some TLC and upgrades. For example, the railings outside our sliding glass door could benefit from some rust removal and a new coat of paint. I didn't notice ramp options to the stairs, so something to ask about if you have mobility issues.

I had forgotten that these rooms have large fridges that actually work and working freezer, microwave, kitchen sink and dishes. What a bonus. And the rooms are so quiet compared to the newer hotels. Having the nephew (retired police officer) provide security is an added bonus, although we felt completely safe. The pool was wonderful - just big enough for my husband to swim laps and had the place to ourselves. Really appreciate a nice, reasonably priced, locally owned hotel for times when I need to stay overnight in Hilo.

Not wheelchair accessible, BUT just a few steps to my first floor room was doable. I knew this going in, so was prepared.
