The staff was incredibly nice, helped us through the late check-in, and gave us a very interesting talk about the place and its history during breakfast. They helped us book the swamp tour and gave us recommendations for things to do in the area. The entire lot is gorgeous and really gives that historic feeling.
We had a little trouble keeping ourselves warm in the surprisingly cold Louisiana night

Very quaint. Cool “original” decor. Lovely staff.
Be warned there is a train line close to the property. The night we stayed there were three long trains that alerted for approximately 10 min each very late in the evening/ early morning. Breakfast is at 8:30 so we missed it as had to leave early. Would have been nice to have had two caffeinated coffee pods in the room. Only one of us could get caffeinated.

The breakfast was a great way to kick off the day. The fanily-style means you will get to meer some interesting people. I am a bit of a coffe snob, so I appreciated being able to grab a very good coffee before breakfast was served. The host, Sybil, provided some Cajun music entertainment, something I enjoyed quite a bit. Pointers on how to enjoy the area were provided.
This was my first visit to Lafayette and this was a good home base. No complaints!

Everything! I have done a really last minute reservation due to an issue with the airbnb I was supposed to stay. The owner of Maison Mouton listened to me and upgraded my room just for me to feel safe enough. The breakfast was amazing, also the history lesson we had in the morning. The property is stunning and renovated! The owner is a true sweet heart and I would recommend this place to everyone !
All was perfect !

It’s was so lovely to be able to stay in this very historic property .maison mouton is old and charming and we were entertained by a trio of Cajun musicians on the afternoon we arrived. Donelle and the staff were caring and attentive . We were served a delicious authentic Cajun breakfast . They were great with restaurant and things to do recommendations also.

Treated to Cajun music by a staff member(sorry that I don't remember his name) and we were also lucky to get a historic tour of the main house by the manager Donelle. Lucky because there were no guests in the main house and the tour was offered.
Having guests on the floor above us that were heavy footed. Being historic with wooden floors try to tread lightly in consideration of your fellow guests.

The historic ambiance of the house was great, and the cottage we stayed in clean and comfortable. The breakfast, fair.
Noise! Besides being located by a fire station (in a busy inner city), and having loud engine sirens all day and night, we weren't informed the covered pavilion right behind the cottage we stayed in was was also a wedding venue. When we got back fro dinner downtown, we followed the noise and squeezed through the entire block of parked cars. Their dj played as loud as if it were a club until well after 10pm. Other guests further away, and who were kept awake said they could only imagine how loud it was being adjacent. Should be a time limit for wedding reception. Neighborhood shift workers, parents of small children or the elderly probably hate it as well.

I loved the flora outside our cabin. It was very lush. Sitting on the porch swing looking at the plants was very relaxing. I also loved the family style breakfast. The food was excellent: eggs, sausage, French toast biscuits, orange juice, fruit, and coffee. It was so interesting to have the opportunity to meet the other guests. Every staff member I came into contact with was cheerful and helpful as well. Even the groundskeeper was smiling and asked how my stay was!
The bed I chose was a bit too high for me to get on easily. I could have used some steps.

We enjoyed exploring the property which featured lovely gardens, massive old trees, and an outdoor patio area. The Main House & the Bourbon Cottage, where we stayed date to 1820. The Bourbon Cottage has two bedrooms, a bath and a large, full kitchen . Pets are permitted in the cottages for $25, which is a lot cheaper than a stay at Camp Bow Wow. Next time, we will bring our dog with us. The King Size bed in the MBR was comfortable and the shower had good water pressure and comfortably hot water. It was very quiet at night and I slept very soundly. Breakfast was served in a beautiful, light filled room at a long table where we enjoyed the company of the other guests which included two couples from France, a family from Germany, and two couples from New York. The breakfast was biscuits and gravy with an egg in the middle, fresh fruit, orange juice, and coffee. The biscuits and gravy were not something I would normally eat, but they tasted great and I ate everything on my plate.
We did not learn that they have a cocktail hour with local music from 4:30 to 6:30. We had a 7:00 PM dinner reservation that we had to get ready for and had to miss the welcome gathering. Next time we will know better!

The beautiful house and the team was a real highlight on our trip. Helaire, gave us the most wonderful welcome with a private performance of local Creole music on arrival and topped it off with some fantastic restaurant and music recommendations. Staying in the house is like travelling in time, felt homely and the freshly made breakfast was probably the best we had. Thank you!
