The Gulfway is the perfect place to stay for birding on High Island. All of the Audubon sanctuaries are in close proximity, and the Anahuac NWR Rookery is a quick drive away. My room was clean, and included a microwave and mini fridge. The a/c worked well and both the bed and bedding made for a restful sleep. (the linens were so much better than I expected, very nice)I felt safe and had no concerns. The owners were welcoming, informative, and friendly.

There wasn't anything I didn't like.

The people at the Gulfway are so nice and accommodating. It is an older place but the rooms are kept really clean and the asian food at the restaurant is spectacular. I have now been to this quiet hidden hideaway close to the beach a few times and will return regularly.

The only downside is that you have a $50 deposit on check in but they are prompt in crediting you when you check out.

It’s quiet and the owners are very nice. Clean rooms with all you need. Food was great and they cook to order. Chow Mein was fantastic. Beds were a tad too firm but I slept great, and the sink in the bathroom was not draining good. Otherwise, great water pressure and a little gem on the beach! I’m sure we will be back soon. Nice clean pool too!

Room was clean and adequately furnished, including fridge and microwave. Fairly quiet, though a bit of noise from the highway. Location is fantastic if you're a birder--within walking distance of a couple of the High Island preserves. The owner did make me free coffee in the morning; not sure if the restaurant is really open or not.

The grounds/external area of the motel are not in good repair--it needs a good renovation. The room itself was fine, so didn't bother us.

The owners and staff are always kind and welcoming. Gulfway is my go to when I’m visiting Crystal beach and it has yet to disappoint.

I personally can’t think of a negative for what the Gulfway is. It’s a simple, clean, older but peaceful place to stay.

We enjoyed the quiet of the location as well as the closeness to area attractions. The staff was AMAZING !! I will definitely be staying here again !

Is was too late in the year to enjoy the pool.

Room was very clean. Bed linens very clean. It was like a 60's route 66 motel. Meets your needs and clean. The extra bonus was the restaurant...very good breakfasts and dinner. The family that runs the motel is GREAT!

Upgrade the wall lamps with night stands with built in chargers. They ARE making improvements as time allows. Upgrade to wall AC units that are more quiet.

I loved the fact I could take my dog with me Paid a little extra.. But, to me it was worth being able to take her, She is my service dog.. The staff was very friendly, very nice and explained everything about the breakfast even though I never asked questions... It was good to know and breakfast was very good.. I felt safe and slept very well .

I know they are trying their best to work on this place, They just took over a few years ago.. It was very clean and the only thing I missed was a coffee pot in the room 😁 But, they do serve coffee in the office area.. There was a very small problem with bugs.. So, I gave them some advice on how to improve that 👍👏 I would stay there again, I felt safe and they all are very nice, I even felt safe ..

It was a short drive to the coast and not very far of a drive to the nearest town for necessities. We had a small issue with my vehicle and the owner was very considerate to help with jumper cables. Thank you very much for that. I liked that there was a restaurant that we could order from and delivered to our room I loved that I could bring my dog, she's a 10yr old doxie and I wasn't taking the trip without her, this was perfect. She enjoyed herself as well Thx for having us and your great hospitality

I don't think there was anything that I didn't like except maybe that the pool was not open to swim in much for some reason The knob to switch on/off the bedside lamp was broken and was very hard to switch on and off

Breakfast was very good. Dinner in the restaurant was delicious. My husband's hamburger was his favorite of our trip. He knows his hamburger! My sushi was wonderful. Our room had everything we could need and the staff was very helpful any time we needed something.
