An outstanding place to stay sandwiched between two attractive beaches on the outskirts of Bowen. Our upstairs unit was spacious and clean and had fabulous views from the valcony out over the well kept grounds to the ocean. We self catered, but the motel has a bar and there is a restaurant down by one of the beaches which is open on certain days of the week. I understand there is also a Thai restaurant nearby which opens at weekends. We enjoyed the circular walk up to the radar station lookout and clambering over the rocks to a couple more secuded coves. There is also a swimming pool sensibly situated to the side of the building we were in. Reception was friendly and efficient, and we appreciated the on site laundry.

great location and value for money. well maintained both rooms and grounds. liked the bar onsite with reasonably priced bottle's of wine. only a short walk to the beach and a couple of restaurants although the pubs in town offered variety also at reasonable prices.

it must be a Queensland thing apposed to what is available in Victoria, limited cafes for coffee and just a sandwich or pie. along with the number of take away restaurants and petrol sites. also be aware of shop trading hours they very different to Melbourne.

Great place for a relaxing holiday. The beaches were only metres away, walking down a track from the property. Horseshoe bay beach is great for swimming. The beach cafe/restruant is 50metres walk, also an Asian restruant is very close. All units had great views. A very friendly atmosphere, Janet and John were great hosts. The view, comfy bed, air con, fan, jug filled with water in the fridge with two glasses as well. Plenty of tea, coffee, sugar and milk with big electric jug. Bed was well positioned to avoid too much light from outside at night. So good NOT to have a stupid doona but a top sheet with a blanket if you needed it. I wish more hotels would have a top sheet!

Fan in bathroom made an horrendous noise. Unfortunately always came on when the light was switched on.

Location great right on the Stand! Price great! Cute and cozy clean room. Good tv. Renovated room/cabin. It had everything we needed for our overnight stay.

Difficult check in due to the gentleman at reception desk. Issue was about a deposit. Either the gentleman was struggling to comprehend what I was explaining to him or simply he decided that stirring the pot would be more entertaining. Long story short, the property requires $200 credit card deposit, or saving that could take between 5 and 10 days to come back. We had to leave $200 cash. No other motels booked through booking.com asked us this.

Tidy, well kept, comfortable and pillows were really good considering the price of the room, good mattress and soft linens, beautiful spot with friendly staff, cute reception cat and for me the 10/10 award is for filling the fridge jug with water so we had full fresh cold water when we got there! It’s always been a bug bear that many places don’t don’t do this for people and when I saw the full jug of cold water that made my day! Will definitely be back!

Cannot fault it to be honest

Bowen is indeed a hidden gem from its numerous beautiful beaches to its welcoming community. To add to the overall experience is staying at a near perfect accommodation such as The Sands resort. It is situated a stones throw from one of the best beaches in Australia if not the world, Horse Shoe Bay. The apartment we stayed in had a wonderful view of the ocean and the facilities were top notch. With a comfortable bed and basic setup in the room more than adequate for our 4 night stay with the pool being used more than often after a swim in the ocean. All in all we will definitely be back to Bowen and the Sands.

Nothing really comes to mind of the accommodation, just be aware of stingers in the water. However it was only a small issue.

We had a first-floor unit with great views of the gardens, rocks and ocean. Bathroom, shower facilities were very good, the unit had a large fridge / freezer which was very handy when staying for a few days.

We noticed a distinct lack of hooks or similar to hang items - particularly in the shower/toilet area, there was no specific raised area to place your suitcase or overnight baggage. The pool was good size but unfortunately was not heated.

The location is incredible with multiple beaches right on the doorstep. Loved the kitchenette facilities. Loved additional facilities like the communal BBQ, pool & laundry. Room size was fantastic. Beds were reasonably comfortable (I have back problems, so I'm picky about bed comfort). Easy parking right at the room door.

It would have been nice to have towels and linen changed at least once in the week. Ran out of toilet paper because the room wasn't serviced & had to get some from the other room we had for family. Their room was serviced while we were there, so not sure why ours was missed.

We stumbled across Whitsunday Sands Resort and so glad we did. We liked it immediately and booked in for a second night. You could be on an island surrounded by beaches and bush walks. We had a room almost on the beach and were able to watch the sunset over the bay. And if you want to walk 100m you can watch the sun rise from Horseshoe bay, where there's a fabulous cafe. The managers and staff are fantastic, friendly and helpful, and the grounds are beautifully kept.
