The building dates to the mid-19th century and retains many historic features. (Some parts of the building are currently undergoing restoration.) The artwork and decor complement the history of the building, and reflect Penelope and David's appreciation of various styles of fine art and furnishings. Breakfasts were beautifully plated, delicious and the quantity was more than adequate, featuring local produce when possible. Menu varied each day and is vegetarian but not vegan, so don't expect a full English breakfast. Penelope and David were exceptional hosts, taking an interest in their guests, providing local information and interesting discussions over breakfast (if the guest is interested, of course).

Greeted at the gate by Penelope the lady of the house, who made sure we were looked after. We left our bags in the car while we checked in and soon saw why that was important. There is a very steep stairway up to the bedroom from the reception/breakfast area, typical of a lot of old buildings of this era. Fortunately their is a secret back entry which runs from the street straight to the bedrooms, so no lifting heavy bags up narrow steep stairs. The breakfast was home made and came with lots of interesting conversation; the property and the owners have plenty of stories to tell.
There is some work going on in another part old part of the property and being a historical building there is always lots that needs doing. Would like to come back in the future and see how things develop.

The heritage of the property, the cosiness of the room (the host had ensured it was warm before we arrived in the evening), the quality of the in-room facilities, our friendly and informative host....and the beautiful breakfast, prepared with locally made or grown produce.
Not much...it met our needs really well. This is a mid-1800 heritage building, so the narrow stairs down to the breakfast room and the occasional creaking floorboard was to be expected. Apart from that, it was cosy and well presented.

Honestly a pleasure to be able to stay here. Penelope and David are absolutely wonderful hosts. We have stayed here twice now with our 2 young girls 6 and 7 and we have always been welcomed with open arms. The rooms are very comfortable. The breakfast is delicious. The gardens are a lovely place. The beautiful dogs are my children’s highlight they absolutely love to be able to have a pat of the dogs.
The 2 nights go way too fast!!!

Beautiful old building. Our room was spacious and plenty of storage. Breakfast consisted of Continental and cooked, it was absolutely gorgeous and a lovely surprise. Quiet location. Penelope was very friendly. Would definitely stay here again.
The only negative would be where the TV was positioned. The two dining chairs directly in front of it were not comfy to sit in for too long. Watching it from the bed gave us a crook neck. Not a major problem though.

Rooms were tidy, clean and quiet with Sheridan towels in the bathroom. Although we prefer a firmer bed then the soft mattress we slept on, we ended up having a restful sleep and had no body soreness when we awoke. The provided breakfast served by Penelope (the owner) exceeded our expectations. We started off with cereal, warmed fruits and yoghurt. Also, sliced sourdough, fruit bread, coffee & tea were on the counter (with a toaster) and a carafe of orange juice and berry jam were on our table. Next, we were served freshly made scrambled eggs with feta on sourdough with baby English spinach leaves and beetroot relish on the side - it was delicious. As for the location, it is a small town, so everything is close by. What is handy is that the pub is within working distance allowing one to enjoy a drink (or two) with their pub meal.

We had a wonderful stay at the Old Colony Inn. It is an amazing property with wonderful hosts who are lovingly restoring the history of this property with all of the old world charm. So far the most comfortable beds we have slept in while in Tasmania. Wonderful Breakfast supplied by superb hosts. Would highly recommend New Norfolk and the Old Colony Inn.

The full breakfast prepared by Penelope was very good with Scrambled Eggs with Feta. I had GF cereal with rubarb and apple then afterwards, GF raison toast with my cup of tea.
The floor boards creaked and one section springy. The bed rocked when the other person got in and out. The doona was very warm for a cold night. It was in a handy location close to shops and the Bush inn where we ate dinner.

Penelope was an extremely gracious host. The room was cosy and warm, extremely comfortable beds, really clean and a lovely location within driving distance from Hobart airport. The home cooked breakfast was delicious and so much choice! Will definitely stay here again when I return to Tasmania.
There was nothing to dislike. Everything was great.

The host was charming and helpful. We enjoyed staying in such a heritage building and appreciated her historical insights. Breakfast was delicious with freshly made warmed fruit, cereals, yoghurt , variety of bread and scrambled eggs and we were able to sit by the fireplace which was a treat on a very cold morning.
