We spent a night in this hotel after exploring Salzburg and before going to Vienna the next day. It was right during the heavy snowfall that made our stay even more remarkable as the hotel and surroundings looked like a winter Christmas fairytale. Hotel restaurant is worth to mention with typical Austrian dishes (schnitzel and tafelspitz were really good), friendly atmosphere and professional staff.

The hotel is only a 15-minute bus ride from Salzburg's center. It is a typical Austrian family hotel featuring traditional style, a nice breakfast, comfortable rooms, a wonderful setting, and very friendly and smiling staff.

Breakfast could have offered a better selection of local farm foods, fresh juices, and freshly brewed coffee from an espresso machine. Additionally, more attention could have been given to guests by asking if they would like egg dishes or anything else. Cleaning could start later in the morning to allow guests to have a rest until 9 AM.

Beautiful hotel and food. All the staff go above and beyond to make your stay wonderful.the advice and suggestions for places to go were better than any guidebook or media review.the best hospitality we've had in years. The spa is excellent as is the location.

2 things we did not know 1, you can order cooked eggs for breakfast 2, being from the UK we didn't know any sauna etiquette so wore swim suits for 2 days until a fellow guest told us . It would be handy for future uk guests to understand how to sauna the Austrian way .perhaps a note in the pink spa bag ? None of this affected our stay, just the only 2 things we would like to have known on arrival.

A very old historic building of the 14thC. Neat and spacious common areas, good sized bedrooms; down feather amenities; logo slippers, gowns, and ten out of ten heating; very clean spa. Linen change as you wished and towels daily. Breakfast: it was above and beyond with fresh produce and a full basket of local dishes, Austrian hams and cheeses, scrambled eggs, fluffy viennese croissants, vegan & vegetarian diets, breads, desserts etc and a large assortment of juices, teas & coffees. Lunch and dinner: it was a pleasant experience too. The service of the staff: was excellent with very polite staff available to assist you in any in-house enquiries to suggestions for outdoor experiences. Location: location was value for money! Hotel in a small village, next to a large market center, a 14min drive to Salzburg Old Town and a 45min drive to the closest ski resort. We would definitely return to this gasthouse.

We left Holznerwirt with a heavy heart and will miss it!

The room and bathroom were clean. Breakfast was very good and complete, Staff were mostly very friendly and nice to both myself and my dog. The hotel looked really nice and felt like a castle. Both interior and exterior were pretty impressive. Sauna world was pretty big and amazing. Lots of space and many different rooms.

My room and the bathroom were very small. There weren't much "toiletries" in the bathroom except for a tiny soap. Although breakfast was very good, but it seemed like things were not being replaced when ran out. Even on the second day of my stay. Check-in could be a lot smoother. I wasn't given any information by the front desk and had to squeeze it all out like an interview. Would be great to have fresh drinking water available in the wellness/fitness center.

Beautiful hotel in pleasant surroundings. I liked the facilities of the hotel, I had the feeling at times that I was in a chateau. The staff was very friendly and professional, very helpful with everything we needed. The best experience was having a great beer at the outdoor garden restaurant under the mature chestnut trees. This was an unforgettably pleasant experience. Overall it was great and I would love to stay at the hotel again sometime.

It’s like walking into the era of 1500s. They have maintained the historical architecture inside and outside the hotel with modern amenities. Location is perfect for those who enjoy peaceful and laid back holidays. Delicious breakfast. The staff is super cheerful, welcoming, considerate and kid-friendly as well.

Pleasant, knowledgeable staff, wonderful breakfast, comfortable room with private bath, idyllic country views, several types of sauna and an outdoor pool included in the fee, e-bikes available for rent-- all added up to a top notch experience. I e-biked to a lake and explored the surrounding area on 1 day, and e-biked to Salzburg on a different day. There's a conveniently located bus stop for a bus every 30 min (except Sun) if you prefer public transportation. I found the public bus was similar quality to a US excursion bus and safe late at night. There's a free app that is worth downloading.

In Austria, smoking is common. At Salzburg Hotel Holznerwirt, all smoking must be done outside. My room shared a balcony, a wooden wall separating the 2 rooms. The other room housed a smoker who used the balcony to smoke and second hand smoke happened if my door window was open. When the other person wasn't smoking, the fresh air was wonderful.

Amazing room in a fantastic location near Salzburg with Great history, Great view and environment, exceptional service and friendly staff, very good breakfast with local products, many fantastic additional services included in the price like sauna, spa, hammam, light therapy, e-bike and many more. In general Austrian people are always there to help and support you with smile all over the country.

The breakfast includes variety of cereals, yoghurts, fruit salad, excellent freshly baked breads and cakes, great espresso, and amazing teas. The restaurant is cosy and traditional, and includes a garden of old chestnut trees where it’s a pleasure to dine in summer. It’s our second stay during the Salzburg Festival (Festspiele) and we plan to return. Free parking in front of the hotel. Only 9km from Salzburg. Very relaxed atmosphere and welcoming staff.

There was only solid soap at the sink. We’d have preferred liquid soap. Otherwise everything was great.
