Cute lobby and hang out areas

Online it said I could book for 80, so I booked for that and arrived to that room not available so I had to pay an additional 45$, and I was only there about 12 hours for 125$.

The new owner is very welcoming and conversational. She wants to make sure her guests are happy . This historic Hotel has an eclectic collection of old furniture. Definitely not your run of the mill Comfort Inn

The advertised Continental breakfast is a coffee and biscuit. No coffee in the room

The staff at the location is an angel in the making. She is super friendly and super nice. If I have to come back here again soon or a million times, I will still come back to the hotel. It feels like home.

Nothing.

The Royal Hotel is a gem amongst the big corporate hotels. The owner/operator has made her little hotel stand out by creating a homey, family atmosphere. The hotel is dog friendly, and Rango, a miniature poodle, is the first to greet you. The owner is an avid painter, and her artwork hangs throughout the hotel. Guests are encouraged to paint with the owner in the dining area. Paint, brushes, and canvas are supplied by the owner. You never know who will show up in the hotel lobby, a multi-linguist, a local musician, a miner, even the great aunt (former owner of the hotel) of the current owner dropped in for a visit. The hotel is located near the waterfront with good restaurants nearby. There is parking on the premises.

The hotel is slowly being updated, changing out worn carpet, etc. Most rooms on each floor use a shared bathroom, but that just reflects the personality of an older hotel.

Charming hotel and owner. Great location. A bit quirky due to age. For example, only one plug in my room but windows that actually opened so a cooling breeze possible during a hot spell.

I didn't mind being on the 3rd floor but be aware (no elevator). Continental breakfast was limited but small fridge in (each ?) room was great for extras I had with me. I didn't mind sharing a bathroom - only 1 shower on 3rd floor but another was almost complete. [Rooms with bath available for a little more.]-

We loved talking with the family members and even the handyman who is helping with upgrades and improvements. Breakfast was simple but the coffee was excellent, albeit slow to appear. We sat in the comfortable living room and chatted over coffee. We were a stone's throw from the wharf, marina, Largest Fiddle, and a great restaurant - Gov's - that was recommended.

This may be Booking.com, but our reservation clearly stated "own bathroom." That didn't happen. That said, it was right next to our room and was no inconvenience.

The property reminded me of a boutique Parisien hotel with all the lovely art, period furniture in the lobby/hotel entrance and in the rooms. And the rooms are well appointed, impeccably clean, and thoughtfully furnished. The proprietor is simply delightful - warm, welcoming and clearly has a creative bent which is evident in the changes and upgrades she has made since she purchased the historic hotel almost 18 mths ago.

The only item I would suggest be added to my room would be a bedside lamp, for bedtime reading.

It's a woman owned business. The hotel is over 140 years old, and the owner/operator has tried to maintain the charm of an old hotel. Every room has an eclectic assortment of antiques. The bedrooms have very comfortable mattresses and pillows. All of the walls are adorned with her paintings. The owner and I painted canvases over an antique dining table while sipping gin mixers. The place feels like a home. The hotel is downtown near the water, parks, and good eating spots.

Due to needing to comply with current fire codes, the antique tin ceiling had to come down. The owner has plans to replace the tiles in the future.
