We chose the Hantang Inn Hostel Xi'an as our hotel in Xi'an as we wanted to stay in a place which was a little bit more Chinese and less of a 'big hotel' feeling. The Haunting Inn Hostel fulfilled our expectations on this score. The location was very good for us too as it was a short walk to the Muslim Quarter which was good for our family. The restaurant we went to there was not great in terms of food but the area is really nice. It was interesting to visit the market also at the end of the street and we met a really nice Chinese lady who was an artist. The free availability of snacks and soft drinks was a nice touch as if one wanted to sit and read a book etc while having a quite moment in the eating area this is a nice way to do it. The people working here were very friendly and helpful also which was great.

Very neat and comfortable. Whilst located on a back alleyway once you enter you are transported to a tranquil space to relax after a long day in the hustle and bustle of Xi’an. Close to the Bell and Drum Towers and the South Gate. The hosts provide plenty of included snacks and drinks to take whenever.
Location should be provided in Chinese and Pinyin to aid in finding the location. Unfortunately our maps sent us in the wrong direction as Apple Maps translates road names making it difficult to find.

A truly exceptional boutique inn, right in the heart of Xian. It’s on a quiet alley that comes alive at night with a delightful little BBQ restaurant that delivers food you can enjoy in the breakfast area. There’s a Japanese vibe, complete with a formal tea house on the fourth floor where you sit on the floor and listen to jazz music as you sip white tea at no extra cost! There’s a simple free breakfast, but they also offer free cappuccinos throughout the day. At night they offer a free glass of wine or gin and tonic, also in their breakfast area, where guests can sit together and chat about their travels. The name of the hotel suggests this is a youth hostel but it isn’t like any other youth hostel I’ve ever stayed at. They do have a few hostel rooms, but most of the rooms are private single or doubles. The beds are very comfortable, there’s air conditioning and video projectors in every room, and even Toto toilets with a remote control with a bidet function! The staff are exceptionally friendly and welcoming. Everything about this place is first class, even though it has an off-the-beaten-path quality. I visited in May 2024 with my wife and son. It is one of the highlights of our visit to China. I should add that the place was recently renovated and everything feels brand new. The pictures in some of the other reviews are out of date.
Everything exceeded my expectations. It was the highlight of our trip to China.

This hostel is hands down the best hostel I have ever stayed in in my life. It just doesn't look and feel like a hostel, but a Japanese hotel. Everything and every detail is meticulously well thought. They provide great local snacks, drinks, water bottles, and a fantastic welcome pack with lots of toiletries, some flip flops and some house shoes. The common area is just beautiful and the breakfast is great. The staff is extremely friendly and everything is unbelievably clean - a great thank you to the cleaning staff too. I stayed in a 4-bed room and we had a toilet and shower to ourselves. The toilet was a modern toilet with water cleaning and temperature-controlled seat and the shower was great. I wish I could see more hostels of this kind in more cities. This hostel just kept surprising me with everything they offered.

Beside the fantastic location just near the Bell Tower, this well decorated hostel made me feel at home from the very beginning. The rooms are comfortable and quiet, the bathrooms are well equipped and super clean, and the living room is very cosy. The price is also very reasonable and you get free breakfast, free drinks and free fruits and snacks throughout the day. The staff is also lovely, Rachel remembered my name from the first day and took care of me when I got a cold. Fellow travellers also super friendly. This place is just perfect.

It was such a joy to stay at Hantang Inn in Xi’an and felt like a huge luxury after months on the road. It was like staying in a high quality boutique hotel with beautiful design and immaculate facilities. The breakfast every morning was delicious and the coffee, drinks, snacks on offer were great. All the staff were so welcoming and helpful with suggestions for where to eat and what to see. Spacious and comfortable dorm rooms. Value for money felt unbelievably good. Probably my favourite place I’ve stayed after travelling for five months and I unreservedly recommend!
Just wish I stayed longer :)

Hotel had a calming simplicity, Japanese feel, beautiful decorated. Located in the old town & a short walk to many restaurants and the Muslim area, drum & bell towers. Across from the Inn is 19 Bar were you get a free beer every evening after 8pm. This became our favourite place to drink and watch the world go by. The locals are very friendly hubby played badminton in the street with the local shopkeepers. The bbq restaurant next door is very good, you choose your food and cook it at the table. Owner is friendly & speaks good English. Breakfast was good & you are able to get free water & soft drinks from the fridge. Also free use of washing machine & tumble dryer on the 2nd floor

This hostel is without a doubt one of the most precious hostels I’ve ever been. It’s really a gem. Very clean, elegant, comfortable, great facilities, stuff is very polite and speaks English, next to Metro station. Guests have water, soft drinks, fruits, coffee and tea at disposal. The hostel even offers in the evening a glass of red wine or a gin tonic for free. It’s just outstanding.
There’s really nothing to complain about, but if I would have the possibility to change something than the fact that guests can smoke in the building - not in the bedroom or in the lounge, but in a beautiful room in the ground floor. I liked to sit in this room in the evening, because it’s spacious and quiet - you just hear water from a little fountain and maybe voices of guests in the lounge. I left this room always when somebody entered to light up a cigarette - I just don’t like that my clothes smell like an ashtray. Unfortunately in China it’s still allowed to smoke in public places like restaurants. If I would be the owner of the accommodation I wouldn’t allow to smoke in the entire building. Guests who want to enjoy a smoke could do it outside in front of the hostel.

Amazing hotel! I stayed in a single room - room is spacious and clean. And yes - I loved the Japanese toilet :) The location of the hotel is wonderful. There is a very easy commute by metro from the airport. It is close to the shuttle bus to the airport, 10 minutes walking from the Muslim Quarter. I visited the Terracote Army by Didi & returned by bus & metro. It was easy enough. Hotel offers great map with local food recommendations - It was always superb. Staff speaks English and is super helpful. Breakfast, free snacks, and drinks are lovely and of high quality. I cannot find a point I could complain about :)

Hotel is in a cute street with a lot fo amenities and generous inclusions
Staff at the front desk were a bit unfriendly and rude - we asked for help booking tickets from the front desk ( as booking on WeChat often requires a Chinese number and is difficult to translate/ workout with the internet censorship ) and the lady just walked away from me and told me to do it myself. I also asked if they could organise tours to the Terra-cotta warriors and she told me I didn’t need to worry - but then the hotel advertises tours with posters in the lfit? Our room also smelled of smoke - people smoke right in front of the entrance to the hotel and in a courtyard within the hotel which is a bit gross.
