What an amazing place! I spent a lot of time on the grounds, as I was recovering from a cold when I first arrived and needed to rest and recover, and this was the most perfect place to do that. I loved the little walking trail, and there were always cute birds to see from the main lodge area. We had a lot of wind and rain when I was there, which was very fun and added to the cozy cabin-like experience. The breakfast was fresh and delicious, and I loved the high-ceilinged shower with nice toiletries. As a solo traveler who did not plan many activities in advance, the front desk staff were super helpful and patient with all my questions. They booked so many tours for me (ziplining, night tour, and shuttle to Santa Elena) that all picked me up straight from the hotel. Eva also told me about the Monteverde En Casa app so that I could get food delivery! There are some restaurants close by, but that was a lifesaver on those cold and rainy nights when I just didn't want to leave my cozy room.

The location is awesome, but just be aware that you are a bit farther from town. Ultimately I think it's worth it, but I did spend a bit more money to get delivery rather than walk solo in the dark some days. Rooms can get a bit chilly so bring sweats if you are prone to being cold like me.

The location is surrounded by nature, the staff goes out of their way to accommodate the guests. During breakfast, we saw a white-nosed coati on the porch. It‘s a really nice place.

We stayed in room 7 and unfortunately it was dripping into the bathroom from the roof. Not sure if this was just a temporary issue, but should be clarified in advance. Also, it was a bit cold and though the property itself is really nice, we don‘t feel like it‘s suitable for people without their own car as we had to spend a lot of money on taxi fares.

We stayed in the Jr Suite with balcony in a beautiful, clean room, with comfortable beds king and queen or maybe it was a double bed. In our bathroom was a bathtub! There was a writing desk, little fridge, coffee pot with coffee & sugar, plus ice available upon request. The little balcony attached to our room, and a wide communal porch below with couches, tables, and chairs provided a great view as did a large circular cast iron deck floating out over the canopy. We made our cocktails there and watched the sun go down over the scenic mountains. Inside is a small bar and seating for the made to order delicious complimentary breakfast.The host was extremely pleasant and professional and went the extra mile to ensure our comfort. We will definitely be coming back!

There was nothing not to like! Beautiful view, quiet location, comfortable room, excellent host, and delicious breakfast. Onsite parking.

Clean, comfortable rooms. We stayed at a Junior Suite with Balcony room and it was great to sit there and listen to all the birds in the evening. Friendly staff as well. They have a short trail on premise as well. We only stayed one night but could have easily stayed another night if we didn’t have to fly out the following day. We missed breakfast so not sure how that was. Plenty of parking on premise too. The only negative is that you do get to hear the moto bikes zipping up and down the main road from the balcony at times.

The Villa we stayed in was amazing. Two large bedrooms two bathrooms and a fully equipped kitchen. Check in was very easy. The staff were super helpful when we wanted to go out and see the sights. Breakfast was beautiful out in the deck with nature all around us.

Honestly I can’t think of anything we didn’t like. Our stay was perfection from beginning to end.

Cala Lodge was a beautiful property. Rustic - this is a mountain ecolodge, not the Hilton- but well kept with beautiful grounds and even a little nature trail. The staff was friendly and helpful and the breakfast, while limited in options, was quite good. But what made our stay magical was the wildlife - coatis and gorgeous birds, agouti (I think that’s what they’re called), we even saw an armadillo one evening - all right there on the grounds. Wonderful!

Our only complaint was that our room needed an extra ceiling fan - it was quite hot during our visit, and the room would get stuffy and warm during the day until evening when the cool breeze through the windows would cool things off for nighttime. That said, I don’t think this would be an issue most of the year, I believe the heat we experienced was not the norm.

Really cute main lobby /breakfast area and deck overlooking lush green tree filled property. They put food out for the birds and we saw some pretty ones. Very clean room with deck overlooking lush green area. Deck had 2 Adirondack chairs and small table. Room had fridge and safe. Friendly staff Walking distance to restaurants and grocery store. Wonderful breakfast Coffee tea and other beverages in afternoon complimentary

Loved everything. Would highly recommend. There are several rooms that do no have decks and do not face the lush green area. Ask for a room with a view. Would have been nice to have a luggage rack to hold suitcase.

This a a great small boutique hotel, location is wonderful, walkable to town if you don't mind hills. The staff was very friendly, breakfast was great. We ate on an outdoor terrace with a very active bird show of Motmots and small Toucans. We highly recommend driving to the hotel on the next road (it would be a long walk in the dark) to experience a magical sunset at the Valle Escondido Hotel & Farm, they do forest tours there too.

Our mistake, we booked an economy room which was small and dark. There are MUCH better rooms with lovely balconies overlooking the gardens which are full of wildlife. We would definitely recommend this Montverde hotel, just not the economy room.

The location in the rain forest. The staff was very friendly and I felt comfortable and welcomed and received good information about the surroundings. Really enjoyed the rainforest walk around the lodge.

I had booked a budget room, which was kind of a motel style accommodation. The mattress of my bed was quite soft, a bit like a hammock, not so good for a pleasant sleep and for my back.

Friendly helpful staff. Our room in the main lodge was simple but clean. We were provided with umbrellas, and they let us use a portable heater in the room (lots of rain). The breakfast was pretty good. Good restaurant within walking distance.

It was good for the price.
