Lovely little retreat. Even though our stay was not perfect by any stretch, there is a lot of good to be found in this someone renovated a hotel. The breakfast buffet was very good considering everything else we’ve had in Costa Rica and this hotel seems to be a messy place where families can enjoy the pool. Lots of tricks come around for sightseeing of the volcano, offloading tours, or helicopter tour.

This place feels like you’re in the jungle as the bugs are abundant. The pools are nice, but not necessarily so new. Some of the cleaning could be better as the banana peel left on the pool side chair was there for 48 hours. It was not our peel, just to be clear. Walls are paper thin so and we could hear every single conversation from our neighbors.

This hotel exceeded our expectations. We loved being outside of La Fortuna as it felt much more relaxed. Being surrounded by nature, with a stunning view of the volcano and with hummingbirds in the trees outside the front door, was really special. The small resort felt intimate and friendly. We ate in the restaurant and the food was fantastic. We also ate in the 2 local restaurants, which were also phenomenal.

The lack of privacy on the balconies of the standard rooms. A screen between would be a great addition.

This place provides the feel of a luxurious tropical oasis without feeling pretentious or unwelcoming. We stayed 2 nights and loved the landscaping, views, and breakfast. Our room was the farthest from the parking lot but the paved paths made it easy to transport our bags and we didn't have to climb any stairs. The pools were well maintained but we didn't swim. The location is close to the many restaurants and shops in La fortuna, and the various hot springs (free and paid). We would recommend this place to anyone looking for a comfortable and affordable stay with Arenal views.

The location is not in town but is very pretty and also the grounds are lovely. The staff are great. The hotel is also close to many activities such as the hanging gardens, Mount Arenal, and ATV trips for example. There is the option of either rooms more like in a hotel or self contained cabins. The option of two pools is great too. If one is busy there is always the other. I would recommend the rooms top floor furthest away but best views and lovely big rooms.

Maybe more variety in Breakfast and no burnt pancakes!

Excellent and well maintained facilities, very nice garden. Amazing cost benefit and very close to a small market and the main SPA locations (which all offer day passes, but better to reserve in advance) Very nice staff, good food.

Rooms could be a bit cleaner, but no big issue. A night light would be a big improvement. If it rains, the path to the breakfast area can be slippery, watch out.

The hotel has an exceptional location. Makes it convinient to reach all locations of interest and the view is amazing. Has tons of amazing restaurants close which makes up for the hotel only offering breakfast. The prices are very comftable and the place is excellent if you mostly plan to be outside and just comeback to relax between activities. The bonus is that the staff is super helpful!

The place has the downside that they only offer the breakfast and other foods are to be obtained outside, the parking is shared with other businesses making it hard to get a parking spot if you bring your own car, added that the parking is very small. Guess they don´t plan on people bringing their own cars but rather getting there by taxy

The grounds at Hotel Lavas Tacotal are well-maintained and filled with lush, tropical vegetation that attracts birds. The 2 pools are lovely. We really liked how the toilet was in a separate room from the shower and vanity. The best part was the location - close to Tabacon Hotsprings and the Mistico Hanging Bridges with a super view of the volcano.

The parking lot filled up so when we returned from an outing in the evening there no longer was a spot for us.

Lack of coziness in the villa we stayed in. Vaulted ceiling with a fan light was the only light in the room. No Desk lamp for evening, just big ceiling light. No closet or hangers for clothes

I rented a bungalow on this property which provided me with more than enough space. The bathroom facilities were recently updated and renovated. The breakfast provided a variety of food. The front desk staff, especially Karen, went above and beyond to provide recommendations and to ensure my stay was memorable. Close by are a spa, a Korean restaurant and a steakhouse.

The location of this property is challenging if you don't have your own car. It is on the main road, but not easy to get from place to place. Taxis are expensive, and so it was more cost effective for me to book tours including transportation rather than visit attractions on my own as I would have preferred.

We booked this hotel at the very last minute as we were driving into the town. Everything in La Fortuna/Arenal is spread out (unlike Monteverde) so this hotel was in a really good position between the town of La Fortuna and the national park entrance/free hot springs. The breakfast was decent and the room is large and very spacious. There are two lovely pools but we didn't have time to make use of them

It may have been nice to stay closer to the town but this is not a must. Additionally, the divisions between the room balconies are pretty non-existent (and therefore noisy, not private, and the smell of smoke drifts into your room when left open). If you are going to be out exploring most of the time, this shouldn't be an issue.
