This was absolutely our favorite place to stay in Costa Rica. It is quiet, beautifully maintained, and the rooms sit right at the foot of a magnificent, 600 year-old Ceiba tree. We saw more exotic birds sitting on the porch here than in any of our hikes through the national forests. Best of all was the care, attentiveness and good humor of the hosts. Everything about this place is prepared and maintained with exquisite care and attention. I could not recommend it more highly.

It was ideal. True, if you are bothered by the sound of howler monkeys you might want to reconsider, but then again, if that's the case, why have you come to Costa Rica?

Our time at La Ceiba Tree Lodge was incredible. The property is absolutely gorgeous. The hosts are very welcoming and friendly and made us feel incredibly comfortable. Sergio went out of his way to help us plan activities and gave great recommendations on how to spend our time in Arenal. The breakfast at the lodge each morning was one of our favorite parts of the day; The healthy (but delicious and filling) food, local drip coffee, stunning views of the lake and conversation were all lovely. Not to mention the titular Ceiba Tree is located on the property and was within a stones throw of our room. It felt like a must see landmark that happened to be in our backyard. If you have the pleasure of staying here please send Tuco the puppy and Chumi the chihuahua our best!

Nothing. Everything was perfect.

The host, Sergio, and his wife could not have been kinder or more welcoming. Nothing was too much trouble. Sergio helped us with a punctured tyre on a Sunday, when I’m sure he had better things to do. He is also a mine of information on the region and what there is to do. Breakfast and evening meal were freshly cooked each day, using quality local ingredients and were worthy of the best restaurants. The lodge is in a lovely setting, with the giant ceiba tree in the grounds, one of only 40 in the whole of the country apparently.

The rooms could be more comfortable and do need updating, but were adequate and perfectly clean. Each has space outside with magnificent views over the Arenal Lake, especially at sunset.

We were excellently looked after. The first night our hosts made us supper, vegetarian by our request. it was excellent, imaginative, tasty and beautifully presented. Breakfast each morning was freshly made at the time we requested using locally sourced ingredients. Our host, Sergio, was helpful and good at giving us advice when we asked for it, without being at all pushy. He was also happy to recommend other places for us to eat out. Great sunsets and sunrises across the lake.

Not the most luxurious accommodation, but great value for money, and excellent dining and service more than made up for it.

location, up on a hill overlooking Arenal Lake looking south toward The cloud Forest. Unexpected surprise…The 600 year old Ceiba Tree featured in the 2022 film “Avatar “ located on property. Lots of flora and fauna. Hosted by Costa Rican Natives helped greatly understanding local culture and customs.

The Front entrance was hard to see at first. When you drive through the gate into the forested drive you can’t help but wonder where you are going. The property drive way is a right of way through an active farm. Hang in there it’s paved and you will climb up to a very pleasant view.

Very very nice hosts, who love what they do. The breakfast is yummy and different every day, prepared with much love to detail. The lady of the house bakes her own bread and the way the owner prepares the coffee in the morning is very meditative and reflects the love he puts in his work. One can feel that the guests happiness is very important for this family with two lovely sons. The owner is a guide who knows Costa Rica and can give valuable tips of places to visit. The view from the terrace is fantastic.

Very beautiful location right next to a huge tree right next to the tree they used in the movie “Avatar “. The host Sergio is wonderful, rooms are comfortable and clean with a good breakfast. Outstanding view of the lake. Dinner at the “Gingerbread House “ was a great plus as it was fabulous and just down the road.

A little tricky on a turn at the top of the road so be careful. Worth the it if you pay attention and go slow.

We only stayed 1 night at the La Ceiba Tree Lodge, but wish we had stayed longer. Lovely quiet location with a fabulous view of the lake & volcano. There is good WiFi and private parking, room immaculate with terrific views from the terrace . The property has a huge Ceiba Tree in the garden which attracts lots of birds. We had a tasty breakfast on the lodge terrace. Both are accessible at the bed and breakfast free of charge. Sergio and his family are very friendly and very helpful. We really enjoyed our stay here, highly recommend at stay here.

All was fabulous

Our stay at Ceiba Tree Lodge was really wonderful! Sergio and his family were so welcoming and kind, knowledgeable about the area and helped us feel like we were at a home from home. Nothing was too much trouble for them and they really made the stay an unforgettable experience - it was like we were staying with family! Our room was comfortable, clean and with a hot shower. The lake views and enormous 600 year old Ceiba tree outside the front door made this one of our favourite places we have stayed. Also - make sure you book dinner here! Our 3 course meal cooked by Sergio and his wife was the most delicious we've had in Costa Rica, using fresh ingredients and herbs from the garden. Breakfast was generous and tasty with different elements each day, which was lovely. If you have a car, it is easy to explore all the offerings of Lake Arenal and La Fortuna from here. We did a paddle boarding tour, the Rio Celeste, hanging bridges and more, all within an hours drive from the lodge. Overall, a really unique and special place to stay, I could not recommend it enough!

Great location and views. I added so many birds to my life list! I was hoping to see toucans, but didn’t get lucky. Breakfast was always delicious, and the coffee was so good. Sergio was very helpful, recommended some great places.

The toilet paper receptacle was not very big and didn’t get emptied daily, so we had to use one of our plastic bags. Be advised it’s cash-only. I didn’t remember that, and we had to use almost all the cash we brought with us. The safe is in a weird location and I hit my head on it twice. Also, to actually visit the ceiba tree, it’s on a different property and you have pay.
