ground floor flat for direct access to the pool is amazing. pool was shallow for kids to enjoy. restaurant food was gorgeous. beach over the road. walking distance to loads of shops.

hotel is next to a big river mouth which had overflowed the beachfront with logs and debris. the beach waves were tougher than any other beach visited in 3 weeks. there seems to be a lot of builders rubble(broken bricks) scattered across the entire beach. we booked two double room and got a single and double which was not ideal. reception man wasn’t apologetic at all and offered me a mattress for the floor. when I asked for a price reduction they magically got a double bed in.

The location is great and only a few feet from the ocean. All rooms give you a view of the ocean and this is center of Jaco which is very nice so that you don’t have to walk far for the nightly entertainment.

Rooms are dated and beds very uncomfortable but you have to take the good with the bad since this is center of Jaco and near everything. It also has a restaurant an arm length away from the resort and serves very good food.

Overall, I liked the Balcon del Mar. In my opinion, some prior reviews gave the hotel a bad rap. The rooms were clean, the pools were clean and the staff were helpful and friendly. Note: Balcon del Mar is for families with kids. It's not for single guys who go to Jaco for the nightlife. The hotel's posted policy prohibits female visitors not listed as hotel guests on the room registration form during check-in. (No problem for female guests present during check-in who signed the room registration form.)

The hotel elevator could be better.

Love the location and the view.

We remembered loving the restaurant next to the hotel. They used to partner together, so you could charge food to your room and you got a free breakfast. It used to be fantastic food! Dinner and breakfast both. This time the food in the restaurant was awful. Will never eat there again.

The front desk staff were very helpful. They booked us tours and helped booked the local bus back to San Jose. Rooms were very clean and spacious. The food at the restaurant was fabulous along with the wait staff. Excellent location too!

The location is wonderful, staff was great, breakfast was very good. Our suite was also nice with a great view. We really liked the pool on the hot afternoons.

The hotel is showing its age and exposure to the climate. The balconies are corroded off at the supports, and our balcony door would not lock. Some maintenance was happening, but the place needs a makeover. It was very noisy outside at night. Small groups gathered to talk and play music all night. Not rowdy, but the windows and sliding doors don’t seal, so it was loud in the room.

Room was exceptionally clean, staff was very polite, food was outstanding and plentiful! Mattress was very firm but not uncomfortable, location was beach front! Awesome view! Pool was very nice. Location was within walking distance to everything you need!

Elevator was down (concierge helped carry bags up to room), water was down a couple hours one day, sauna tub too shallow to enjoy. Every morning between 4 and 5:30am a large group of locals would gather on beach in front of hotel and crank music and loudly converse and sing and party (not really hotels fault) but nobody would contact the police, I guess they don't have noise ordinance in Jaco?

The view from our balcony suite was lovely. Nice big room.

Low water pressure in the shower. 5am loud party in the parking lot in front. No outdoor shower to wash sand off. Need better variety of breakfast. Suggestion: have employees wear khaki pants or shorts with white or blue polo shirts. Very classy, black looks too hot. Set a trend.

The location was right across the street from the beach. The hotel provides guest only beach lounge chairs and umbrellas. There was a person that worked at the hotel near the entrance most of the time, keeping an eye on the parking area and guest needs. Everyone in my group was provided a wrist band for use of beach chairs, pool and for breakfast. Internet worked well to do online COVID testing before returning home. Staff was great. Breakfast area is very nice and breakfast was good. Close walk to shops and restaurants. Noon checkout was good to give us extra beach time in the morning. Note, if you surf, the surf is more advanced level in front of hotel. You can rent surf boards or sign up for a lesson right in front of the hotel on the beach.

The room was missing the coffee maker and there were minor things broken in the room (toilet paper holder, curtains didn't slide/close, patio door didn't lock, bathroom window didn't open, walls in rough shape, lightbulbs burned out). No hand or beach towels provided. The hotel is a bit rough on the edges, but the location made up for it. It appears to be a bit rough of a neighborhood, but we had no issues with our car parked outside or while walking around.

when I first arrived, the lock on the door was not locking properly, 30 minutes later, it was fixed. Little issues like this needs to be address & resolved before they rent the rooms to anyone.
