Breakfast buffet was excellent - lots of choices, good quality. Room size in garden area was substantial. Room was soundproof. Nice amenities.

Our room - 3143- was near the very loud generator in the garden area. However, the room had good soundproofing so we didn't hear it inside, just outside on the balcony. There are other rooms in the garden area that are not near the generator - best to inquire about your room first. Not sure if they gave us this room because we got a lower price on booking.com. The reception area was hard to find if you come in from the garden entrance - there are no signs on how to get to the reception. No one told us about the layout of the hotel either. And no one accompanied us to our room. We felt a little like they considered us second-class guests.

It is an amazing historic building, an old palace and it’s like a museum with the original paintings, chandeliers and some of the furniture.

The guard dogs are forced to work for long hours (definitely longer than 3 hours at the time as we were told) in extreme heat (43 C), often without water. The doghouses were in the sun and the dogs were tied on short leashes that kept them from moving to the shaded part of the house. These were furry German shepherds and it was obvious that they were suffering, they showed no interest in the cars they were dragged along to sniff. The guards couldn’t care less.

This Marriott is unlike an ordinary hotel. Yes, there are incredible views of the Nile, it has 14 restaurants (with delicious food), the rooms are immaculately decorated and clean, and it includes a lovely private pool for guests. More than that is its history. It was initially built as a palace by former King of Egypt in the late 1800s, before being bought by Marriott in the 1980s. And walking around and inside, it really does feel grand like a palace. The architecture is one of a kind with the grand Golden Arches surrounding the brickwork. The staff are excited to give a brief history and even a tour of the building. You go for a hotel but you have an experience.

While Zamalek is a lovely (and upmarket) area of Cairo, it’s only accessible by taxi. You can’t go for an evening stroll anywhere. You need to get an Uber to go for a stroll… Also, while the food is delicious and service is immaculate, you pay the price for it. A drink is about 50% more than 3 star hotels we stayed in, and about 3 times more than local cafe prices. You’re paying for that quality, assurance and convenience tbh.

Loved the hotel areas. Everything was beautiful.

The room. It was a non-smoking room but apparently smoking is very prevalent in Cairo. Our room smelled so very bad when we arrived. It only got worse through the stay. One night we had to sleep with the sliding door wide open (it was cold) because the smoke was coming into the room through the HVAC. This made the stay quite bad. The entire hall was non smoking but you can tell that maybe the floor above or below was smoking because it was so prevalent in the room. My eyes and throat hurt the next mornings - not happy with this.

Our room was extremely large. We had an upgrade to the Presidential Suite - and it was really quite an experience. It is decorated in a very regional style - which is beautiful but might not appeal to everyone - but it was absolutely huge and the bed was so comfortable. We had a whole suite of rooms - with numerous balconies and fantastic views. It was really quite special. We have stayed in a whole host of hotels in Egypt - but the terrace and pool area at this hotel is our favourite one in the country. It is absolutely unbeatable in our opinion.

Some of the decor needs a little updating.

Beautiful garden; big warm pool; fabulous interior of the palace (middle section between the two towers); good security at all entrances. ATM's at the hotel. My Deluxe King Room was spacious, equipped with all you need; loved the balcony with garden/side river view. In all locations, very friendly and helpful staff; excellent food - be it at the pool or in one of the restaurants (had one of the best Bruschettas and mushroom soups at the Saraya Gallery restaurant (Tuscany restaurant was closed)). The Bakery served delicious warm croissants and cappuccinos. Excellent, nicely presented breakfast buffet.

It said there was a shopping area but there were hardly any shops. Would have loved to take a stroll along the Nile but unfortunately the new walkway on Marriott's side is still in construction. Once this is finished you are just 1 minute away which will be great.

Everything worked perfectly. From the communication prior to arrival, the pick up at the airport, the cleaning, the sercive, the facilities, to the drop off at the airport again. Everyone was attentive to our needs and helpful. Location was good and all the facilities you could wish for were there.

In a sense, you could be anywhere in the world at this hotel - the feeling of being at Marriott doesn't make you feel a lot like you're in Egypt. It makes you feel like you're at Marriott :-) But if you're ok with that, then sit back and enjoy and then the real Egypt is right outside the door

the most comfortable, huge bed we have ever had Pillows were perfect too. Lovely view of the Nile. Dressing gowns and slippers, fluffy towels all made it feel very luxurious. the Palace part of the hotel is beautiful, worth a look at the function rooms upstairs. The pool area is very clean with padded sunbeds and large. fluffy towels all set out for you. Bar service readily at your sunbed. Pool side and garden food very tasty and reasonably priced. The Saraya restaurant was a lovely experience but a lot more expensive and service a little slower. We stayed in 3 other hotels in Giza and Cairo during our stay. This was by far the best and actually deserves its 5 star staus.

Some of the restaurants were closed due to Ramadan

First time staying in Cairo and at a Marriott. From the minute we arrived, the staff were amazing...every single one. I had read a few comments about it being dated but it really isn't. It's a charming, beautiful, historic building located next to the Nile. The food in all the restaurants we tried was amazing. The pool area is beautiful and so relaxing. The whole hotel is so clean. . As for the comments about the cars beeping....you are in a major city, the cars beep all day...it's their way of driving. It didn't bother us (and we live in Devon so not used to the noise) the hotel is a paradise in the middle of a very busy, loud place. Once your hotel patio door is shut you do not hear anything, so a peaceful night's sleep. We will be coming back to stay here when we visit again next year.
