Our family of 4 really enjoyed our stay at Mimaru. The staff went above and beyond to assist us and were outstanding! Thank you! The neighbourhood is quieter than the main tourist area and not very difficult to get around. We took buses, the metro, and walked. But the best transport were the bicycles we hired from a bike store across the street. It was fast, fun and safe to ride around Kyoto on bicycles like a local! The hotel has a few bike parking spaces which was very convenient. The laundry room in the hotel was great and had enough machines and a money machine to exchange bills for 100yen coins. The hotel has a small exercise room which is useful. The room was more spacious than expected, very clean with everything that we needed. The windows could be opened for fresh air when needed. There is a good sized grocery store almost opposite the hotel with fresh food and most products you’d require. We would definitely return to this Mimaru!

Nothing to complain about!

This apartment was very family friendly. Bunk beds for kids. Big bed for my wife and I. Nice big table for our family to eat on or organize our stuff. Good size refrigerator and microwave and the room had everything we needed. The lobby had a coffee machine that was a good value and the staff was very nice. There was a supermarket right across the street and a 7-11 not much further. Bus stops and subway stations were easy to get to.

There were a lot of little kids running around and the lobby seemed to be quite busy most of the time.

- Spacious!!! The 1 bedroom loft apartment with 6 beds was so comfortable. As a family of 5 with a special needs child, it was amazing to have the room to spread out and feel really at home. Our kids were able to have their own space when needed (particularly great for our littlest one with Autism when she was in sensory overload). -Really comfy beds! -Brilliant central location, fairly close to the Gion District, Kiyomizu Dera, Yasaka Pagoda, Nishiki Market, Pontocho Alley -A supermarket is literally a 1 minute walk from the entrance to the hotel, and then a 7 Eleven is just 2 min walk away plus delicious Japanese chain restaurant Nakau across the road -Very handy laundry facilities onsite (about 700 yen for a full cycle and to get them sufficiently dried) -There is a little playroom for the younger kids with a good selection of toys, which was fantastic when the littlies just need a break from the big adventures -Absolutely beautiful area to wander in the evening -Easy to get to everything by bus, and there are a couple of stops easy walking distance from the hotel -Try the the nearby Mar Cafe rooftop dining (so pretty) and the Sugarhill Kyoto restaurant (best Creme Brulee I've ever had) -Just have to sing our praise to the lovely staff, we left our Chromecast plugged into the TV when we left for Tokyo and they went above and beyond to forward it to our next hotel which only cost 960 yen for the delivery

-This one is a bit silly, but our whole family literally kept whacking our shins and heads on the furniture (which only happened here, we aren't perpetually clumsy I swear!) There are so many sharp corners at ankle, shin and head height, and there are no kickboards on the kitchen cabinets so if you're used to having kickboards seriously watch your feet! My daughter hit her head pretty badly on a sharp corner of a floating shelf which was at perfect 6 year old head height. I think all the Mimaru hotels have the same type of furniture. We started making jokes that "The furniture got me again!"

The hotel is situated very close to the train station that goes directly to Uji and Fushimi Inari. It's also near several bus stops convenient for Kyoto station and places around the city. It's walkable to Kiyomizu-dera Temple as well, we took about 30 minutes on a very slow walk. The amenities are very good, the disposable slippers were very good quality and lasted us well during our 13 night stay. Housekeeping is excellent, they paid attention to details whenever they did housekeeping like changing the dishwashing sponge and providing more bags for waste disposal.

The walk to the nearest subway station (Gojo) felt much longer than we expected. So, we opted to take the bus to Kyoto station instead, however during peak hours, this may not be ideal.

Loved our family's stay at this property. Ideally suited for families and although there may be other locations that are centrally located, I found the location to be excellent as cab rides to popular sightseeing sites were not expensive. It was also very helpful to have on-site coin laundry facilities, which we used several times during our five day stay. The room itself was larger than most in the area and helped considerably to add to our comfort as a family of 5. It was also very nice to have a grocery store right next door. Staff were very friendly and helpful. I would highly recommend!

Great location close to the river and accessible to the station, and of Lawson’s and other conveniences. Lovely facilities, the room was quite spacious (ground floor) and yet quiet even though there were quite a number of other guests staying. Liked the dining table and kitchenette; really well stocked with useful items. We didn’t use many of the facilities (except the laundry, often! Family of 5..) but the lounge space was great spot with lots of resources on hand.

Only a small thing but halfway through our stay we came one evening to find that unexpectedly all our 3 room keycards didn’t work. Luckily the reception staff hadn’t yet left for the evening so were able to sort it out and reset them quickly, but this would’ve been a different story if we’d returned to the hotel a bit later after dinner to find reception staff left for the day. Still didn’t find out what the issue with the keycards was as no explanation was provided.

The hotel is conveniently located near the Kamo River, about 1 kilometer from major attractions and shopping areas, all within walking distance.

There is a supermarket right outside the hotel, which is convenient. However, I personally prefer Japanese convenience stores. All the nearby convenience stores require a bit of a walk and you have to cross a road to get to them. The hotel follows an eco-friendly policy and does not provide disposable items such as toothbrushes, combs, or slippers. There was no drinking water either, and I couldn’t find a clearly designated area for guests to help themselves. While I understand and respect the intention behind this policy, I did find it somewhat inconvenient.

This is an excellent option for families and I would highly recommend this particular property for long stays with children. The location is walking distance to many sights and public transport. The property itself is spotlessly clean, the rooms are thoughtfully designed for multiple occupants and include every amenity one might need (including cooking utensils). The front desk staff are friendly, efficient, warm and resourceful. They answered every query with a smile and we appreciated their hospitality. We would stay here again.

Mimaru is an excellent choice for staying in Kyoto. It's close to Kiyomizu-Gojō Station, which has excellent access to a few famous visiting spots. There are plenty of places to eat and shop around the hotel. It is a charming area to stay. The staff are tremendously helpful and speak excellent English. The room is spacious, even for the three of us. There are other services like transferring luggage to other hotels in different cities, which we think is excellent.

Mimaru removed guests' toiletries to help save the earth. We love the initiatives and think all hotels should do it. It's not an issue for us because we brought our toiletries. It would be great to receive an email about it after booking so people don't assume it's provided since it's commonly offered in Japanese hotels.

Room was big compared to other Japanese rooms that we had stayed in. Great to have basic cooking and storage facilities in the room and we really enjoyed being able to have a hot bath at the end of the day. Room was lovely and warm and the staff were very, very helpful. There were also grocery stores, cafes, restaurants and bakeries all within a five minute walk. We had a bento box for breakfast one morning and really enjoyed this experience. While here we used a luggage forwarding service and the staff were very helpful as this was the first time that we had done this. Would definitely stay here again.

Vending machines were very basic and did not have a big range of items.
