2n stay here. Wonderful. Our window was overlooking the path to Kiyomizu dera. It was an apartment style hotel with lots of practical facilities in the room such as a kitchen area with pots and pans, microwave oven, separate toilet with bath, comfortable beds and large floor space to lay out 2-3 suitcases for packing. Amazing value especially if you would like to spend time walking around Kiyomizu area. Staff is not always at reception but can just ping them if have any questions and they readily reply. I had asked them about luggage transfers and they were really helpful. We used Airporter service on our own to send two luggages to Osaka. What a breeze. There is also nearby convenience store 3-5 mins away. Very comfortable beds. Also a short walk to the bus stop 3 mins. However do note that the bus stop can be pack with people as a lot of people board this bus be it school students or tourists. I suggest staying nearer to train if more of your itinerary requires subway. Plus Kyoto doesn't allow large suitcases on the bus so be prepared to take a taxi from Kyoto station if you need to reach this hotel. It's about 2000 yen depending on the time of the day. Overall, amazing stay.

Just the bus stop can be crowded. Other than that, everything else was good. :)

everything! location: 3mins walk from the historical area, which is perfect So that you can explore the area in the evening when the tourists are away. 7-11 around the corner with everything you need for the flat. quiet street off main road. plenty of restaurants minutes away. facilities: kitchenette with microwave was perfect to heat up and enjoy meals from the local shops. just set up your heating/air con pref temp as you arrive. we were on floor 5 with lovely morning view. free washing machine with detergent (although we didn’t use it). safe double coded entrance. staff: warm welcome . lovely and efficient. they had safely stored our suitcase sent by JAL and they sorted out our Yamato for our suitcases to Tokyo and kept our other luggage few hours extra after check out.

more a warning than a dislike: make sure you copy and paste the full address of the property from the booking.com page onto Google map (don’t type it up) to get the accurate location. (we first landed somewhere else, but again, not the hotel’s fault, our mistake!)

For a family of 4 (couple + 2 teens), finding a decent sized room that could fit 4 of us at a reasonable price can be tricky in Japan. This hotel fits the bill. The extra plus point is the washing machine tucked in a little corner in our unit. The kitchenette came in handy too. I love the fact that it is located just a few meters away from the road leading to Kiyomizudera, yet very quiet and away from the bustling crowd. The bus stops for the city link buses are also conveniently close by and hailing a taxi by the roadside is not a problem. There are also plenty of choices for food nearby. We stumbled upon a quaint little shop (located on the 1st floor of a building beside the bus stop to the right of the hotel) that sold bento lunches and it was inexpensive and delicious! Graciously run by 2 lovely ladies. The staff at the hotel spoke English and were very friendly. It's a great hotel with decent amenities and I am so glad that I chose to stay there.

Super ideal location! In between major locations such as kiyomizu dera and nishiki market, among many others! Close to train/subway stations making it a great location for day trips as well. We did a trip to Uji on one of our days. My sister and I loved the kitchen area included. Utilized the microwave and freezer. And also definitely took advantage of the laundry. The bed was super comfortable. But what really wowed me from this stay was the communication and responsiveness of the staff to my messages and emails. Throughout the stay, I had many questions. And they were very quick to reply with answers and advice! Overall, great accommodation. Would recommend and also consider staying again! :)

Very comfortable room. This felt more like our own apartment in Kyoto. Loved the deep bath tub and washer. Location is great on a side street away from the hustle of the main road. Very accessible with bus system. Host was wonderful - she helped us deliver our luggage to our next destination. We will return again!

No dryer for washing our clothes - this is just us nitpicking - but it takes a while for stuff to hang dry inside in the winter. Would wish for a place to hang out coats (again, winter) at the entry of our room, given the long hallway to the living quarters.

The room was huge; it was practically an entire apartment. The bed was big and comfortable. There was a wardrobe for us to store our clothes, a kitchen with a sink and some cooking appliances, and a Japanese style bath which was also really big. It was near Kiyomizudera and other temples, as well as some traditional streets. There was a % ARABICA Coffee and a konbini nearby.

The hotel was quite far from the Kyoto-Kawaramachi Station region. Most restaurants near the hotel closed very early in the evening or needed reservations, so if we wanted to have dinner we had to walk all the way there.

Location is a bit off the normal path but close enough to walk to most locations. You will have to give directions to the taxi to get you to the hotel. Bus service is close, subway a bit more of a walk. Laundry in room with detergent is really helpful. Kitchen is nice once you get tired of eating out. If you are staying for a few days, it can make sense. Price was extremely fair.

About the same distance to everything, but not close to anything. 15m walk to the fun parts of town. Not inconvenient, a bit like living in an apartment. More than a week would be difficult. Walls are thin. It's an older look inside and while not run down, it isn't bright and cheery. Windows open to other buildings. This is a non-staffed front desk. Don't expect anything other than check in assistance during normal hours.

What's not to like??? Easy access to Kiyomizudera, ninenzaka, sannenzaka, Gion, and other amazing places. It's a stone's throw away from the bus stop, which will literally get on your way to almost anywhere in Kyoto - at ¥230 each way. As far as accommodations, it's essentially an apartment, with a washer, kitchen, bath, toilet, and a roomy bedroom, and I don't think we paid much more than $100 USD a night. I have absolutely ZERO complaints about our 4 night stay at West Japan Kyoto Kiyomizu and highly recommend it to anyone looking for lodging in the Higashiyama area of Kyoto!

Nothing comes to mind

A great little hotel very centrally located in Kyoto! Our apartment was really spacious and located in the top floor! We could not have asked for a better room for the money! The kitchen was much better equipped than we hoped for and the balcony was also nice to have. Parking was directly in front of the hotel and we could see our car from our room. Also the hotel is located to many attractions in Kyoto. I honestly think this hotel is best possible value for money in Kyoto!

The hotel is perfect as it is. The city of Kyoto I would not visit again though. It's totally overrun by tourists and the most crowded place in whole Japan. Some of the sights are occupied even at 4am in the night by podcasters and social media guys - very unpleasant to watch!

The space was good for us as a family and the keyless entry was convenient as we arrived late and could check ourselves in. The location was perfect for the shrines and temples at the foot of the hills and also good for Gion. The room and facilities were clean and tidy with extras of everything available for us to use without having to call for it. We liked having a table in the room, large enough for all of us to sit around. This was one of the best places we stayed in Japan, a really great find!

Two tiny things. The washing machine had no dryer function so the room was covered in wet laundry. Also, having a privacy screen available would have been ace.
