very nice staff, a lot of thanks to Ms. Iwai who has welcomed us and also helped us to find a good restaurant. The reception realized the day we checked in was birthday of my wife and sent her very warm congratulations. Very good location, nearby Gion, Kennonji. Many restaurants and bars on the Yamatooji-Dori. The beds are very comfortable, open lavabo area. Beautiful sunken garden. excellent price-performance-ratio.

The restaurant ENDO where the breakfast is served didn’t know the special open time on 3 holidays until 11:00 instead of 10:30. Because of 2 big beds the rooms looks a little bit narrow for 2 cases. The garderobe is also not big enough.

Wanted to follow up on my trip to Kyoto and lodging. I spent the first evening at the Candeo which was lovely but not particularly in the location nestled in the cultural elements of Kyoto. I ended up at the Celestine which I loved. It had just enough Japanese customs to feel immersed but easy to communicate in English if new to Japan. It is located in Gion. Walking distance to several Temples…. Fabulous restaurants of all levels. The concierge does a little tour on Wednesday and Friday around the neighborhood which is a good introduction. After several weeks in Shikoku hiking from temple to temple and staying in traditional lodging ryokan and guest houses a bit of luxury was in order. I highly recommend the Celestine Kyoto in Gion.

The hotel's location, at one edge of the famous Keninji Temple and within 300m of the heart of Gion was amazing. This small hotel was beautifully designed and set within a landscape courtyard that exuded Zen calm and serenity. The room was spacious and everything was well-thought out. An added bonus was the free shuttle bus service from the hotel to Kyoto Station, which is some 15 mins away by car.

The hotel's restaurant had a very restricted menu and served only 'course meals' or 'set meals' every evening. Some ala carte offerings would have been appreciated. Also, the wifi was rather spotty and kept disconnecting for no reason.

Truly beautiful and such exceptional service! The amenities are wonderful and the location couldn’t be more perfect. The breakfast was great and fulfilling with a collection of Japanese and western food. The hotel does a free walking tour around the neighborhood with a local guide every Wednesday and Friday I believe which is such a lovely way to start your visit in Kyoto! Theres also a free shuttle to and from Kyoto station with multiple times every day. The public bath is so great and serene with all the amenities you need in it (towels, hair brushes, face wash/makeup remover, cotton ear buds, lockers to keep your things, a water dispenser, hairdryers, plastic hair covers… etc). Such a wonderful and unforgettable stay truly worth the price!

More snack options in the guest lounge would’ve been great.

The services the hotel provides is very characteristic of the traditional courtesy of Japanese people. They provide free shuttle services to and from the Kyoto station. They also will help you arrange a taxi for travel around the city. The staff are very attentive towards you and most of them speak great English so if you don't know any Japanese, don't worry! The breakfast is also AMAZING, especially the tempura since their main chef is famous locally for the tempura. The rooms also had a little surprise for us as well because the hotel gifted us with two pieces of cloth called a tenugui.

It was a little on the expensive side but this is understandable considering that we traveled during a very popular tourist season but next time we will probably consider some other place to stay.

The price of the meals for dinner at the restaurant were outrageously high. Tried it once, great quality food but eyewateringly expensive. Many cheaper options in walking distance (though still Japan prices which we found to be high).

The hotel was conveniently located, extremely quiet with exceptional service. From the breakfast each morning (assorted Tempura, the most delicious yogurt, scrambled eggs, chicken, mini-stacked tempura surprises, and so much more) to the respite of air conditioning and luxurious mattresses and bedding at night, our family had a fabulous stay. The staff went beyond necessary to make us feel welcome and valued. At the end of our stay they arranged cab service to our next destination, a Ryokan, 40 minutes west. We are already looking forward to our next visit to the Hotel The Celestine Kyoto Gion.

Everything was top-notch!

Celestine Gion offers a splendid indoor environment to unwind after a day of sightseeing and mostly walking around Kyoto, and it is just a street down from Kenninji Temple ( oldest Zen temple in Kyoto), and located within the historic Gion district. The staff constantly showed good attitude of service and helpfulness, and are able to speak English fluently. We are glad to also try out the onsen bath in the hotel - a splendid way to end the evening. Breakfast's good!

Mostly walking is needed and we had to make our way back to the hotel every night through walking down these streets that may be quite dim to walk in ( so it might not be suitable for very young children or for the elderly), but this probably applies throughout Kyoto. Some guests were inappropriately behaved at the public bath ( talking on loudspeakers in the facility, or not having bathed themselves before entering the onsen..) but overall a pleasant experience.

It’s perfectly positioned amidst the peaceful beauty of Gion. The hotel is located on a quiet traditional street directly opposite a beautiful Temple. It is in easy walking distance to the famous Kiyomizu-Dera Temple and the buzzing streets of Ninenzaka and Sannenzaka. The hotel also offers a handy free shuttle bus service regularly to and from Kyoto station. Our room was located on the 5th floor with a beautiful view over the traditional streets and the lush mountainous surrounding in the background. The room was spotlessly clean, beds were super comfortable and amenities were well stocked including a universal charger. The services was exceptional and every encounter with staff was always warm, and welcoming. During our stay the staff exuded kindness and were always willing to help with anything we needed from booking a day tour to helping change train tickets. We are already planning a return stay and cannot wait to come back.

The only thing that we would’ve liked that wasn’t provided was body moisturiser.

The rooms were lovely, enough space and all the useful utilities you would want and/or need (besides body cream strangely as it’s over specked on everything else). The beds and bedding was so comfortable and it was extremely tranquil. The staff were lovely. It’s in a very quiet area but close enough to walk into town and the old streets of Gion with many shrines and Geisha’s to be seen around.

It would have been helpful if at least one or two of the staff were more fluent in English as communication was difficult at times. But it is Japan after all, so to be expected. They were extremely helpful and welcoming. The air con was set very high in our rooms on both times we booked in and took a long time to cool.
