A beautiful hotel with large rooms and great staff, all of whom spoke English. Location is close to everything with many restaurants nearby and a 7-11 less than a five minute walk. While on a tour, I broke a bone in my foot. The staff were genuinely worried about my condition. They gently urged me to seek medical attention and helped me find a place where I could be helped in English. The hotel is too small to have a restaurant, which it doesn't need, so the staff also made sure I didn't starve. Even walking to restaurants was a real challenge. Unfortunately, I did have to leave Japan early to return home. Although my hotel was prepaid, without my asking, they had refunded the last night of my stay, even before I had arrived back home. I am already planning another trip to Japan to pick up where I left off, and I will definitely return to the Rinn Gion Kenniji. Arigato Gozaimasu.

I wish the TV had streaming capability or apps built in so I could have watched Netflix, etc.

Absolutely brilliant location in Gion. Just across the river, away from the main shopping and entertainment area but only a short scenic 8 minute walk away. Tube station nearby so getting around was easy. Just outside the hotel were numerous local restaurants both affordable and expensive. Although we never tried any one of them they always seemed to be full every time we walked by. Room was a good size, bigger than I expected and the decor was nice. Has all the amenities you would need. Staff spoke good English and were polite and helpful

Bathroom was a bit small. No closet or drawers to put clothes in. Old school lock and key system for the doors.

Nicely designed hotel with lovely rooms. The beds were really comfortable and we had a gorgeous view over Gion. The staff was really sweet and spoke English. They helped us forward our luggage to the next hotel and allocated a room on the top floor for us, as requested - thank you! Our room was very quiet, something we both appreciated very much, since we are light sleepers.

The only thing that would have been nice would be to have breakfast, but they were great at giving us suggestions of places within walking distance that we could try.

Incredible location, we swinged by the hotel in many occasions, to pick up a jumper or a power bank, without disrupting our itinerary at all. Close to several sights, convenience store, hip restaurants and public transport. Everything was clean and modern, very nice reception and halls too.

The laundry machine (combo washer and dryer) doesn’t work so well —everything came out damp after two cycles of drying, and there wasn’t space to hang things in the room. As in many Japanese hotels, the room was quite small, but this one felt a bit more cramped (perhaps due to big bed, big desk, 3 side tables)... We didn’t have a lot of luggage (two cabin bags) and it was pretty tight already. Perhaps they can let go of one of the side tables to free up some space.

We booked the Japanese style room to accommodate 3 people. The design of the room was a very smart use of a smaller space but still felt spacious and had tasteful traditional elements. The shower and tub combo was also awesome with really good water pressure. Staff was very accommodating and kind. They were able to help us with luggage delivery as well. The hotel is in a fantastic location, walking distance to many great temples, Gion-Shijo station, the Kamo River, 7-11, great restaurants, a Kimono rental shop, and the main shopping street. Would stay here again!

There are no hooks to hang towels to dry but the hotel offers free daily towel and trash change, upon request which worked great.

Absolutely amazing space. This hotel is located close to a train station which made it easy to to several places from here. To give a few examples: Nara, Fushimi Inari, Arashiyama Forest, Kinkaku-Ji, are all easily accessible with a few rides on the train/bus. The hotel is also close to the Gion street and the city centre, giving lots of options for shopping and places to eat. We loved the hotel room, we had a twin bed, which gave us some space for luggage and our room had a tiny balcony for some fresh air. The AC saved us from the warm spring sun and gave us a view of some temples and shrines close to the hotel. The staff was also kind enough to take in our luggage before check in time and even brought it up to our room around check in time. For the location, the service and the room, I would definitely recommend this hotel.

There was a fairly intense smell when entering the hotel. We understand it is to create an atmosphere, but it could be a bit less intense. The room also had a lot of small lights and noises during the night. It kept us up sometimes and we had to cover these up in order to sleep. We also did not like that the hole in the door for peeking out did not have a cover on the inside, making it so that anyone could look in. We covered it with a small sticker, but it did not feel nice. The laundry facility matches other reviews: drying your clothes does not really work in the machine. Do two drying cycles and hang it out in your room to dry overnight.

The room was comparably big. The beds were comfortable. The location was in walking distance to public transport and the center!

No common seating area or attached cafe/bistro. So you had to go outside for everything.

The room was spacious and The facilities were clean and well appointed. I loved the blend between western and Japanese facilities, particularly the tatami area which was lovely for enjoying matcha and snacks purchased during the day in the Kyoto, and the Japanese bath was very relaxing. The location was fantastic for public transport, bars, and both the old and modern city. Note, if you want a substantial dinner every night you might have to go across the river, as the area mostly specialises in bar snacks and seasonal traditional meals.

I have nothing negative to say, everything was wonderful. One coin laundry was broken when we visited, but I'm sure they will fix it soon.

Our stay in Gion, Kyoto, was one of the highlights of our trip. The location was absolutely perfect—right in the heart of the most picturesque area of the city. After a long, exhausting day exploring temples and sights, it was such a relief to be able to take a peaceful evening stroll without needing to deal with transportation or long walks. Being based right there meant we could soak in the beauty and atmosphere of Gion effortlessly, even after sunset. The charm of the neighborhood, combined with the convenience, made this stay truly special.

Everything about this hotel was excellent!! The staff were extremely helpful, we were able to communicate in English, offered luggage delivery and storage, and we're very communicative. The hotel is so conveniently located in the Gion area, right next to the beautiful and serene Kenninji temple which was absolutely gorgeous, easy walk to major attractions! Honestly one of the best stays we've had in Japan. Highly recommend this hotel if you want a convenient location, beautiful interior and exterior, and serene and traditional surrounding! Will be coming back here again. Thank you!
