I really enjoyed the house during our short stay. Wish I had booked it for an extra day or two! The house is well appointed, very tastefully decorated and extremely clean. It’s within walking distance to several major attractions in east side of Kyoto, and really close to bus stations and a taxi stand. It offered us a much needed retreat after each day amongst the hassle and bustle of Kyoto tourism. The host is excellent with communication and is very accommodating. We were able to drop off our luggage before lunch. We appreciated the yuzu drink and the Japanese snacks. I highly recommend the place and will not hesitate to book again.

Cosy, comfortable property that has been well looked after. Perfect if you’re looking for a slice-of-life style stay in a Japanese Machiya. The hosts gave me a tour and showed me how everything worked, from the coffee machine through to the aircon. The tatami room was perfect to sit and edit my photos of Kyoto. The large bathtub had a cute window onto a mini zen garden, which was magical. The sofa in the living room was big and so, so comfy. Everything about the property was comfortable, with so many amenities; they really have thought of everything you might need. The kitchen has a coffee machine and teas available. The aircon is strong, perfect for the humid weather recently and the washing machine and dryer are perfect to refresh outfits. Within walking distance of temples, Gion, Ninenzaka and ceramic shops. Within 5 minutes is a bus stop into the center (coincidentally found some of my favourite pieces in the ceramic shop on the way to the bus stop from the property). Under 10 mins walk away is a taxi rank.

Nothing, I loved my stay! The stairs were perhaps a little steep for those who might have difficulty with such things.

Staying in such an authentic place was great. The location was great. Facilities were great and every detail was thought through. When we did out check in, everything was explained in detail, and the booklet of the house was useful. We asked the futon beds to be ready just to try for one night, we ended up sleeping on it through all our stay. There were some snacks with a note from the owner, which made us really happy.

Getting coffee pods are really hard around the area, so using the coffee machine gets hard after the first day. Except this, everything was great.

This is a spotlessly clean, charming traditional house with all modern conveniences to ensure a comfortable stay. One bedroom has 2 western-style beds and the 2nd bedroom can be set up with a futon at a small additional charge. It makes a great base for exploring Kyoto. It is in a perfect location with some of Kyoto's most charming and photographed sights and streets a short walk away. As it is set a few blocks back from a key highway, it is very quiet but you have great access to the excellent bus network. Among the many thoughtful touches, it has a Nespresso machine and additional pods can be sourced from a couple of Department stores, including the 11 storey one at Kyoto station (they are not available at nearby supermarkets). Highly recommended.

absolutely loved the property, location, convenience etc. kitchen was great with an espresso machine and just enough necessary comforts. bath and tiny zen garden butte was an absolute delight. washer was a greatly appreciated feature for us! the bed and pillows were forever than I like, but that is totally a preference… the only thing to note is that there bedrooms - western and tatami room are upstairs (steep risers) and the bathroom is downstairs. It is fact in Japan and just something to note. No complaints and will DEFINITELY request a booking again in the future.

Love the decorations, the bath(so relaxing), beds are firms and really comfortable ...near kiyomizu-dera, and other temple...only buses brings from kyoto station... but there is also a local train...not too far... the hostesses are really nice...there is instructions to translate how everything works in the house... it is a great idea that we didn't find at other place... we had a 2 floors city house Japanese style for ourselves ...really clean...

Everything was great...

We really enjoyed staying in this apartment on a residential street just one block back from one of the main streets in the area. The apartment itself was spotless and given its size each space was utilised very well. An instruction booklet was provided for all appliances which was very useful and it was great to have a washing machine available. It was certainly a great place to come back to after a long day of exploring the area and it was very handy to the local buses on the main street and also a taxi stand for getting to Kyoto Station. We found that recommended dinner restaurants were a little further away requiring 20 plus minutes of walking, though there were a few close by cafes open during the day.

More cutlery such as knives would have been useful, plus a handrail on the stairs.

This place is a gem. The kindness of the staff is incredible, they accommodated a last minute request to anticipate our check in in respect of the agreed time without any problem. Communication (preferably via message) was very easy and responses fast. The machiya is a delight, superbly well appointed, quiet, comfortable for a small group or family, spotlessly clean. There is everything to make your stay cosy, even for longer periods (we stayed 6 nights). Kyoto's sight on the east side are within easy walking distance (Kiyomizu-dera, Gion and Sanjusangen-do each within 10 minutes) and plenty of buses/taxis to be found on the main road 2 minutes away. It was a true pleasure to stay here while visiting wonderful Kyoto!

As in most Japanese accommodations there is not much storage space, but it is really a minor detail.

This home was beautiful and in a great location, perfect for exploring the area! The home was well stocked, the owner even left us a welcome basket of snacks! We took a taxi from to the property from Kyoto station and had no problems getting dropped off in the right spot. I also appreciated that the owner was very helpful in getting set up in the house. I highly recommend this place!

The property was clean and in an excellent location. It was stocked with coffee, tea, water, snacks, washing pods, and everything needed for a great stay. There were maps and guide books, plenty of cuddly towels and amenities such as toothbrushes, loofahs, and a washing machine and dryer function from the bathroom. All wonderful. The hostess also did us a great favor in forwarding some forgotten important items. This was beyond the norm and appreciated.
