I don't know where to start because everything about our stay at the bastille de Bellegarde was wonderful. On the outside the Bastille is a beautiful old stone provencal house set in a large garden. The inside is a quixotic mix of antiquities and art, lavish fabrics and old mirrors collected by the owner and host, Brian, who has restored this property with obvious love and attention. Our room was very generous with a separate seating area and large bathroom and faultlessly clean, comfortable and luxurious. And then there was breakfast - the very best of the wonderful local produce selected and presented with so much love and enthusiasm. We totally enjoyed the bastille's oddly exotic decor, lavish breakfast and Brian's warm welcome. We'll be back.

During our vacation to Avignon and the Provence region, we chose Bastide de Bellegarde because every review about this rental was outstanding. After spending two nights there, these reviews were Spot On! Our host, Brian, had converted an old winery into a beautiful bed and breakfast. He welcomed us right when we drove up, gave us a short history of the place, and carried our luggage to our room. With a degree in hotel management, he thought of every little detail in our room to make life for weary travelers comfortable: multiple (and I mean multiple) USB ports/ outlets at the head of the bed/ side of the bed/ bathroom for charging devices, a large, spacious walk-in shower, separate his and her large bowl sinks even with a separate large bowl sink for the toilet (which is always nice), and plenty of water bottles throughout the room. Each morning he and his assistant (who happens to be the daughter of the woman who had previously owned the place) greeted us with a wonderful breakfast of a delicious (and filling) homeade omelette, croissants and various tasty breads, an assortment of cheeses, meats, smoked salmon, cereals and tasty fruits. They gave us very helpful sightseeing tips in the region. What we really looked forward to however was his dinner, which we heard about on the reviews. We had the option each day of him preparing a dinner for us - even when we checked in at 4pm which was delightfully surprising after a long day of traveling. While we did not take his offer the 1st night, he prepared a sumptuous dinner for us on our 2nd night near a warm fire with the soft music of the French singer, Barbara playing in the background: a beautifully-prepared duck confit with fresh salad, bread, cheeses and meats all served with a nice glass of Rose wine and his homemade ice cream. It was clear that he felt joy in helping us enjoy our vacation to Provence.

This is one of the most magical places i have ever stayed. Please look no further for your quest in a place to stay. You’ve found the very best! Brian is an excellent host. You can tell he loved what he does, as he pours his heart and soul into the grounds, the details, and your stay. He is one of the most pleasant people to talk to, and his charisma soaks the place in a warm embrace to be felt long after you’ve left. I felt welcomed, mystified, enchanted, and quite possibly even like a princess. Please do be sure to enjoy the food, as the meals are exquisite. Take the bikes into town (15 minute beautiful bike ride) and don’t forget to admire Oscar the peacock, and stop to smell the blooming wisteria! A unique and charming accommodation in a beautiful building with a stunning courtyard. The interior design is exceptional, featuring a delightful collection of items carefully curated by the owner. The host is incredibly welcoming, offering heartfelt hospitality with valuable knowledge, recommendations, and a warm, friendly demeanor. The breakfast was excellent and generously served. Highly recommended!

Fantastic provençal place to stay in Avignon! Brian is lovely and takes care of the guests, amazing breakfast, food, decoration and all details that you feel at home! Merci, Brian! I stayed for 4 days and it was a perfect base for visiting Avignon, St Remy, Le Baux, Arles and Luberon villages! A place that I will never forget! :)

Our host Brian made sure that we had an amazing stay at his B&B in Avignon, set in a lovely and private setting near the city. The room was spacious, comfortable and with many amenities. The breakfast is opulent and delicious. The entire house is beautifully decorated with artwork that Brian has collected. Our first night he made us an amazing dinner, a really special treat. Brian is a wonderful host and will certainly make you feel welcome. Highly recommended!

Our stay at this accommodation was an incredible, almost one of those unique-once-in-a-lifetime experiences. My parents and I stayed for 2 nights in the Verdale junior suite. The room was perfectly sized for three adults - with a spacious main bed and a separate, cozy nook with a single bed. This layout provided ample space and comfort for everyone. The grounds themselves are a breathtaking masterpiece with unique character and charm. The beauty of the entire property is truly indescribable, making every moment spent there feel special. The breakfast and dinner settings were magical. We spent an entire afternoon at the pool with rosè. What truly elevated our stay was the exceptional hospitality of Brian. He is an amazing host who consistently went above and beyond to ensure our comfort. It's clear that he has poured his heart into this place and has a genuine passion for creating a welcoming and memorable experience for his guests. I can't recommend this place enough - you absolutely will not regret staying here!

The Bastide is on a quiet island outside the walls of Avignon, but travel time to the city is only 15 minutes by bicycle and slightly less by car. And if you ride on the bikes provided, the wide path to the city is dedicated to bikes only, so there’s almost no car traffic between the property and the city walls. It’s well worth it. As for the property, it is so peaceful and relaxing, you might be tempted to stay there and skip going into Avignon for a day or two. That's what we did, as it was the end of our three week vacation, a perfect time to wind down with a glass of rose. Brian is a superb host, from the making the extraordinary breakfasts each morning to cooking the delicious dinners served on the patio each evening. He has a special skill in getting the guests to interact if they wish and to let them be if they choose. All the while, he exudes a contagious spirit of enthusiasm for life’s pleasures. We loved every minute of our stay and look forward to a quick return.

Perfect location for exploring Avignon and the sourroundings. The estate is magnificent. The room and the bathroom were very spacious and made us feel like we were living in a castle. We enjoyed a declicous dinner and an opulent breakfast with fresh products. The Barthelass island just outside Avignon city is very green and quiet. Parking is no problem.

Everything about this property was picture perfect. Me and my fiancé spent 5 nights here, and it honestly still didn’t feel like enough time. Our jaws dropped driving up to the stunning property. Brian was the most incredible host. He was so attentive, caring, funny, and genuine. Our room felt so picturesque. The pool was absolutely beautiful and perfect for the hot days we experienced there. During our stay we felt like we got to know Brian as a friend and we truly can’t wait to come back to this property. The true star of the show was the food we ate here. I read the reviews saying the dinner on property every night was absolutely amazing. We chose to have dinner there our first night and we both agreed it was one of the best meals we have ever had. We ended up eating there 4 out of the 5 nights we were there, and every single night was immaculate. The breakfast in the morning was also incredible and the service was amazing. We got engaged on this trip and Brian made us feel so special and celebrated. I cannot recommend this property enough. It is a once in a lifetime experience.
