Breakfast was excellent and loads of choices Maurice was very helpful making recommendations and booking dinner reservations The room was very comfortable, quiet and appointed with lovely bed linens Maurice was a perfect host and there was no detail he hadn’t thought about We loved our stay and will recommend to friends and would gladly stay again! I forgot some toiletries and Maurice found us and brought them to me! That was huge and above the call of duty!

I can’t think of anything to change

Maurice is an incredible host. Upon arrival he organised our parking (with a permit), assisted with luggage, gave us a guided tour of his beautufully renovated home, and, on each of our three mornings, provided the most wonderful breakfast, taken in the beautiful, shaded courtyard. The french toast is delicious, as are all the baked treats Maurice prepares himself. Our room (Agnes), was spacious, extremely comfortable and had excellent aircon, a lovely seating areas, and views of the castle. Do stay here if you get the chance. It's a magical haven in a really beautiful town.

Highly recommend staying at Au Relais Saint Maurice - beautiful (and very central) property dating from 13th C which has undergone substantial renovation (largely by the current host) and has a fascinating history. Very comfortable, clean and with lots of high-quality detail in the room and throughout (coffee machine, toiletries, robes, slippers). Our room had a lovely view of the chateau. The rooms have air-con and heating, and there’s also a secure garage for bikes / cars. The buffet breakfast is exceptional and served in the lovely courtyard in summer. We’ve stayed in Chinon before, but this was our favourite property. Also very good value for money

Maurice could not have been more helpful. We were desperately late: after 10:30, owing to difficulties with charging our electric car. late as it was, Maurice came to the river bank to guide us to his charming old house in a semi-pedestrian part of old Chinon, which must be one of the most delightful and unspoilt small French cities. He then led us to our bedroom at the top of the house, with a view of the castle above us. Breakfast could not have been more copious and delicious, with many home-made breads, yogurt, pastries and fruit, in his plant-filled shady courtyard.

In over 35 years of travelling across four continents I rate this property - Maurice's home (B&B) - as the best place we have ever stayed. Parts of the house date back to the 12th Century, with major renovations in the 14th and later centuries. Our room was like an apartment with a fantastic bed and other facilities. Maurice is a flamboyant, fantastic host. We arrived when he was cooking up a batch of stewed apples with cinamon, which we found out the next day was part of the lavish, silver service breakfast buffet that he provides for his guests. A rating of 10 out of 10 does not do this property justice. You must experience this property.

This property dates back around 900 years. It doesn't have a lift...not that that matters - we didn't notice. The staircase was magnificent.

Maurice is an excellent host and is the proud owner of a beautiful establishment. He has an eye for detail and clearly enjoys hosting his guests. Our second floor bedroom and en-suite was superbly furnished and every detail provided for. Breakfast was magnificent with an excellent range of hot and cold foods, we sampled the creamy hot scrambled egg and the tastiest fried tomatoes we have ever experienced anywhere. We will return.

Having to leave. The high standard we enjoyed with Maurice has been noticeably missing from other hotels we have used during our trip.

Everything about this stay was perfection. The owner Maurice, his beautiful home and the town of Chinon was the highlight of our return from Provence. The most fabulous french home dating back to 13th Century, and decorated with taste, passion and flair. Maurice has such an eye for detail, including making sure his guests have absolutely everything they need. It left us smiling broadly, only wishing we had been able to stay longer

Beautiful property with stunning rooms. Breakfast was amazing. We will definitely return for another stay.

Maurice is a great host. He made us feel very welcome and comfortable. Our room (Claude) was a "suite". A large room with comfortable bed, sitting area, desk and wardrobe. The room led into a spacious bathroom with a claw foot tub and large shower. Breakfast was exceptional. A choice of eggs, quiche, cheeses, yogurt, fruit, juices and a wide assortment of baked goods. The coissants were delecious. The location of the property was ideal- easy access to restaurants, shops, the Fortress Royal (highly recommend) and the river. Chinon is a beautiful Medieval Town and was a highlight of our trip.

The property is right where you want to be - within the "walled city" of Chinon and with easy access to the streets, shops, and restaurants in the area. Additionally, it is an easy walk over to the stairs or the elevator to take you up to the fortress, which is definitely worth a visit. Remarkably, even though it is in the heart of the "city," it was relatively quiet in the evening and the night air was fantastic - so leave your windows open! The room we stayed in was tastefully decorated and was a nice balance between the "old and the new." The rooms are off a narrow winding staircase which adds to the experience but keep that in mind if you have issues with steep stairs. Finally, the spread for breakfast is fantastic, and Maurice (the innkeeper) takes great pride in providing excellent personalized service. If you are a fan of fresh baked breads and pastries, along with quiche and fresh fruits, you are in for a treat!

Parking and initially locating the property can be a bit of a challenge, so once you find the place and a parking spot - STAY IN IT. Try to avoid using your car -which frankly you shouldn't need, and walk everywhere. Maurice will provide you a parking pass so keep your eyes open for a spot at the end of the street before it turns into a pedestrian walkway. Also - as much as you'd like to - the innkeeper asks for you to not take pictures so be warned.
