Everything about our trip was amazing. The accommodation was a one-of-a-kind residence reminiscent of a medieval castle, while at the same time being extremely spacious and comfortable. The location is in the heart of Cluny and everything in the historic town is just a few minutes’ walk away. Elisabeth and Francois were incredible hosts who consistently went above and beyond to make us feel welcomed during our stay. This was one of our favorite vacations ever in large part because of their generous hospitality. We will certainly be back and stay at Maison Romane 1136 again.

Superb apartment in the heart of Cluny with all the facilities we needed, very near shops and restaurants. We thoroughly enjoyed our time in Maison Romane 1136 which is probably one of the most fascinating places we have ever stayed. The living room/kitchen was spacious with lots of space for cooking, eating and relaxing. The bedroom was incredible with even more space and couches to relax where you could get a sense of how royalty would have lived! Our host was very helpful in terms of explaining various aspects of the apartment and access, as well as providing storage for our bicycles.

This is by far the best place I stayed at , save for my own home! I did not want to leave. Beautifully furnished and equipped. Fantastic hosts and fellow old properties renovators. The medieval house is renovated with huge sensitivity to the original and furnished with quirky wonderful pieces. Please don’t book there (too often!) because I really want to be able to go back !

The property is perfect

The location is AMAZING. If you are looking for a medieval atmosphere, it is THE place. The room is large and quiet, walking on the floor tiles is an experience and the bathroom sink in encased within an ancient chest!!! Moreover, the owner gave us an extraordinary welcome!

Cluny by night missed illumination to highlight the beauty of the historical monuments. It was really dark!

It is a unique heritage site. Staying here is a privilege, offering an insight into an ancient world. the owners have so sympathetically restored the property while offering modern luxuries - a stunning combination. We also appreciated the vignettes and decorative pieces collected on their many travels to the East. It is a truly inspiring stay and we would recommend it highly. Madam Elisabeth is gracious and provided a wonderful welcome with chilled wine and local cheese - much appreciated after many hours driving. The house is in the centre of Cluny, steps from the many good restaurants and the Main Street.

Completely unique house in the perfect location with parking outside the front door. Enormous rooms with great heating (February). The history and structure of the house is fascinating. Everything was provided and more. Not to be missed.

Margaret goes to far above and beyond. Great basket of bakery each morning for breakfast. Tourism advice. And the greatest building ever. A masterpiece. Not be missed

How can you beat staying at this one-of-a-kind place. We and our friends stayed here on our cycling trip around Burgundy and wished we could have stayed longer. Built in 1136 and beautifully restored, it truly is a unique stay. The host, Elisabeth, was so accommodating and helpful, nothing was a bother. The included breakfast really got us ready for the days cycling. If you have the chance to travel to the beautiful and interesting Cluny, this should be on the top of your list for stays.

We were let in by Elisabeth's husband, who kindly offered us a welcome drink and breakfast, which we had not booked. Merci mille fois, encore une fois !

The Wi-Fi signal was a bit weak, but that's to be expected in a house with walls made of stone almost a meter thick.

The property was spacious and private. It was very well located right in the middle of the town.

Nothing really. Perhaps the lack of garden which may have improved its options but it was still fantastic.
