Enjoyed a few days of our winter break vacation at this mediaeval chateau with the family. The chateau is located in the outskirts of the Matzenheim village, in a neighbourhood named Werde. Being in a secluded region, the chateau is quite peaceful without any noise from people and cars, and only sounds of nature. The room we stayed was a family room, which had 2 separate bedrooms (one with king size double bed, other two adjacent single beds), a bathroom, and a corridor linking these rooms. Both bedrooms were quite spacey and decorated with very nice paintings on the walls and vintage furniture. The bathroom as well as the bedrooms were pretty clean. Our towels were replaced every day. There was free wifi in the rooms and the quality was decent. The rooms were very well heated. The breakfast, which was between 8:00 and 10:00 was very satisfactory. There was plenty of free parking space in the chateau grounds. Our room - being on the corner, had views to all three sides of the chateau. We had windows overseeing the garden as well as the river Ill, which is running right next to the chateau. Our host was very nice, friendly, and warm, who spoke to us in English. The interior of the chateau is marvellous, with high ceilings, antique furniture and carpets, squeaking stairs, original paintings, and especially the porcelain heating furnace in the breakfast room.
The only thing thing that may be bothering are the bugs in the room. There were quite some ladybugs even in the middle of winter, which were completely harmless. We got used to them in very short due and even liked them after some time. After all, they are the real inhabitants of the region. They reminded us what it feels like being in the middle of nature.

A historic chateau by the river, nestled in nature, with origins dating back to the 12th century. The interior is beautifully furnished with unique pieces, making it a delight to explore. Everything is in incredible harmony. The room was very comfortable, and looking out the window, we were greeted with a stunning green landscape. The chateau's owners are the best, so kind and hospitable, doing everything possible to ensure our comfort. Breakfast was of excellent quality, prepared with fresh ingredients. Instead of staying in Strasbourg, we are so glad we chose to experience this unique place. We will definitely stay there again! And yes, we noticed 3-4 ladybugs on the wall, but they did not bother us at all. We understood that we were in nature, sharing the space with its true inhabitants, and we respected that.
There’s absolutely nothing to complain about..

This accomodation is a 500-year old chateau, which has been renovated yet which maintains its distinctive feel. The hosts are friendly, gracious and very helpful. The room we were in was beautiful with a renovated washroom. The breakfast was great and there are gorgeous grounds surrounding the chateau to explore. The entire experience was incredibly special and I cannot recommend it highly enough!
Honestly, I cannot think of anything not to like. Being a 500-year old building, it has no air conditioning (that I saw) so I guess you'd consider this if it's hot. Then again, it's Europe and nobody seems to have decent a/c anyhow.

A charming old chateau which is very rustic and furnished in keeping with its heritage. Very friendly owners with a warm welcome. Room was quite basic but clean and had great character. Very nice breakfast, served in a beautiful dining room with a great selection of food.
The grounds are a bit neglected and overgrown which detracts from the experience. Also the exterior of the building needs a spruce up which would really lift it’s wonderful appearance. The room could have done with a fan to help on warm days Be aware the chateau is next to a lake so in summer they’ll be flying insects around, my partner was quite badly bitten by mosquitoes which clearly isn’t the fault of the hotel but something to be aware of.

It was absolutely beautiful, inside and outside - a very special place. Living like royalty! The hotel was surrounded only by sounds from nature: birds, frogs, wind in the trees! For those of us from the city, it was heavenly!
There was nowhere to eat dinner within walking distance.

It was an amazing French Breakfast! I can’t complain but just need to suggest to please include lactose-free milk for people who has allergy (like me). Delicious bread didn’t do bad though! 🤭 Great atmosphere made us feel like King, Queen and Princesses…. Colorful walls and antique furniture deserve big thumbs up! ☺️
The heaters didn’t work! It wasn’t a big deal… but maybe it will be a problem in colder weather. And… pity not much of colorful flowers and plants outside!

The castle is very romantic with very beautiful furniture and all very tastfull decorated. The service is first class and very attentive. No whish stays unanswered.
Only I would have wished for a hook to fix the hand shower head to in the bathroom, but the shower design matches the setting.

Xavier, our host, was welcoming in a genuinely engaging but unobtrusive manner, demonstrating just the right balance of interest, humour and friendliness. The rooms and public areas were tastefully appointed. Breakfast was elegantly presented and ample. The setting by the water, mature vegetation and tranquil atmosphere make it an ideal spot to unwind from the stresses of a bustling lifestyle and enjoy the trappings of a bygone era.
Access without a car is difficult. Taxis must be booked well in advance of arrival and departure if travelling by train.

Sleeping like a duke or duchess? You sure can do it at this location! The vibe is unique, the castle surely throws you back a couple of centuries into the past.. Location is great and quiet, the beds are so comfy that we didnt want to get out of them and the decorations..not enough words to describe them, its a must-see experience! The old paintwork and worn-out walls only add to the authenticity, its not a con! Breakfast is fine too, French style. Will surely come back here but this time without the kids :)
One of the previous comments about the trash cans is legit. They are way too small! And lose the TV sets in the rooms, it will add to the overal ambiance :)

The chateau and grounds were very pretty. The room was a little chilly and the heater was noisy, like running water, so I had to turn it off to sleep. The breakfast was a small selection, but the bread and cake was good.
