Excellent staff who were friendly and helpful and there when you needed them.

It was a problem that there was no fridge - in hot weather we would have like to have had cold water. The room was hot and this could have been fixed with air conditioning. The opening of windows did not help much.

The hotel does not have an elevator which makes it difficult to walk up for older people with suitcases. The room for 4 people was veeery tight, not much place to move or even open the suitcases.

Couldn’t hang dresses in the wardrobe and only 5 hangers for two people’s clothes. No bar or lounge area so if not out you had to stay in your room and despite the room saying seating area, it did not have one. The hotel is being renovated so every morning at around 7 am workmen would arrive and they were very noisy. Not what you want when on holiday. We weren’t notified of building works in advance.

We booked the only apartment-style room so we had a large lounge/bedroom with a kitchenette with two ring electic hob, sink, kettle, filter coffee machine and a small fridge-freezer. The kitchen cupboards were stocked with ample utensils & crockery as well as salt & pepper, coffee filters & ground coffee and cleaning materials. There was a desk with lamp, drawers & chair as well as a table with two more chairs, a large double bed with bedside tables & lamps. The apartment was at the top of the building so the views from the windows over the old town were very nice. The bathroom was also very large with a large centre-tap/shower-head bath, a separate shower cubicle and a large sink & mirror. Everything was very clean and modern and there were plenty of power sockets in all the right places. The breakfast room was very nice and the reasonably priced all-you-can-eat breakfast buffet was varied and tasty with the option of scrambled eggs cooked on demand in addition to the wide selection of breads, rolls, cheeses, meats, cereals, yoghurts, fruit & boiled eggs. The old town with its square, restaurants, shops & churches was a short walk from the hotel and the railway station, large indoor/outdoor Freibad & new town supermarkets are a twenty minute walk or five minute drive away.

The hotel has no lift so getting luggage up the two flights of narrow stairs was a little tiring. We visited in hot weather and there was no air conditioning so the room which was partly in the pitched roof space got very hot and we had to ask for a floor-standing fan to alleviate the conditions. It would also have helped if the old-fashioned windows had been replaced with modern double-open-action triple-glazed ones. When we vistited, the hotel was undergoing renovation so the the outdoor terrace was a building site and the bar was not open. Since we were not warned about this it might have been a nice gesture to provide some compensation such as free breakfast or complimentary drinks in the room.

It's a decent stay, however the heater is off during the night and the blanket is small, hence you get cold during the night.
