The location is superb! I was welcomed by a very professional hospitable receptionist - very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was very satisfying! A lot of choices and very good quality. The service staff again very very welcoming and warm. Overall very pleasant experience and I shall stay there again. A big thank you to all staff ♥️

Room & shower - outdated. Due to high ceilings reaching cobwebs seem difficult nevertheless should be taken care of. The shutters are on a timer - i put them back up but they came back down again in the middle of the night. Cleaning staff knocking at 8:30 :/

Great hotel in an excellent location, offering good value for money. Rooms were spacious, clean and comfortable. Friendly welcome. Good breakfast with excellent bread and eggs cooked to order. Hotel is very central - just a short stroll to all the shops, restaurants etc… Gengenbach is gorgeous - a perfect stop-off en route home to UK from Austria.

The hotel has an affiliation with a restaurant in the town. We decided to eat there but the service was some of the worst we’ve ever experienced l. Such a shame as the food (when it eventually arrived) was good. Eat elsewhere!

Amazing and friendly staff, who went out of their way to make my daughter and myself comfortable and our stay a truly memorable one. The hotel is beautifully presented with comfortable and spacious rooms. The continental breakfast was delicious offering lots of choice including eggs. Nice to be back after 10 years to re-visit here ^_^. The hotel Pfeffermuehle is located close to Gengenbach train station, by walking distance of ca. 10 min.. From the warm welcome at reception to the spotless room, and delicious Germany style breakfast, every moment staying here will be turning into the memory that we will cherish. Now, back to home with full of energy! - from Room 6, July-12-2025.

Gengenbach is a charming town and the hotel an excellent place to stay while visiting. Our room at the top of the building was very comfortable and had perfect views of the timbered buildings. The manager was extremely pleasant and helpful, even arranged a lift to the train station the morning we left - it is within walking distance but fairly far with luggage.

We stayed at Stadthotel for two nights on our recent visit to Gengenbach and we are so happy we chose this hotel! The room was very comfortable and the reception staff could not have been nicer. The breakfast offered many choices, and the staff remembered our preference on our second morning. The location is just outside the old town wall and very convenient. We would recommend this hotel for anyone visiting this charming town in the Black Forest of Germany.

We liked everything about this hotel!

We had a lovely stay in this fabulous town. We stayed 2 nights in the junior suite, which was a nice large room if a little dated. The bed was comfortable and the shower was good. The breakfast was very good with plenty of choice. We were served fresh eggs of our choice and a big pot of tea or coffee. The staff were very friendly and we had excellent service.

The only thing we didn’t like was there was no tea or coffee making facilities, but there was a fridge with drinks in.

Excellent location with architecture that blends beautifully into the neighbourhood, just a short walk from the old town. The room was very clean and comfortable, and the staff very welcoming. Breakfast was fresh and satisfying. Parking inside may be limited when busy, but nearby street parking is available and not an issue.

Friendly staff. Comfortable room with balcony. Relaxed atmosphere. We were allowed to check on early at no extra charge. Pretty town.

No air conditioning. Had to leave balcony door open and run fan all night. Little of interest in Gengenbach for a 14-year-old. Many of the restaurants and all of the museums were closed on Monday.

The location was perfect for our short visit. It was an easy walk to the historic city center. We were able to park our car in front of the hotel for free. The breakfast was excellent and included a lot of choices.

It was very hot during our visit. I knew the rooms weren't air conditioned so that wasn't a surprise. The room finally cooled down after dinner when we opened the windows. A fan or two in the room would have been greatly appreciated.
