This is an excellent choice for Essen. Great staff and clean rooms, with some very nice extra touches (eg in-room tablet). Nice quiet street close to the very vibrant Ruttenscheider street. I liked being in Ruettenscheid, which is approximately 25-min walk from Essen train station, going away from Essen city centre. The very helpful member of staff even made sure I had free public transportation around the area, on account of me staying in the hotel. Would recommend this hotel to anyone seeking a stay in Essen/Ruettenscheid.

We travelled for three weeks through Europe. The staff at Rheinischer Hof made as feel very much at home. And their breakfast menu was the best we experienced throughout the entire trip. Great way to experience German culture by getting exposed to German classic literature - the owners are fans of Goethe and they provide a fine selection of classic literature to the guests. I wish though that we had not booked through booking , com. They change the rates, something we noticed that on other occasions as well. We will contact all of our hotels directly, from now on.

The host was extremely friendly and gave us a very thorough explanation of everything we needed to know. The hotel was easy to find and fit our purpose perfectly - a one night stay for a couple of friends for the Euros in Gelsenkirchen. It was easily reachable by public transport.

Some faulty fixtures and fittings like the shower head, which would not stay upright, and the shower gel dispenser, which kept getting jammed. The bathroom was incredibly small but that can’t be helped!

Perfectly situated around the corner from Rüttenscheider Stern station, close to shops, bars and restaurants. Very friendly staff. The room was spacious.

The area is quite loud at night, so make sure to bring your earplugs if you want to keep the window open at night. Also if you book a single room take into account that the single bed is quite small.

Breakfast was excellent, better than most 4- and many 5-star hotels. Plenty of choice for every taste, and more than enough of everything. Very friendly service, and they gave a card to use for free public transport, and no charge. Walking distance to the metro

Cheap bouncy mattress, at least in my room, which was in a corner of the top floor.

Very good staff available to any request for clarification and explanations regarding places to dine. places also present on the tablet in the room. The structure has made umbrellas available to go out as, when we arrived, it was pouring rain. big breakfast in small room, but with everything. With breakfast they also provide a bag to take away as a packed lunch or snack. A wonderful initiative especially appreciated by those who travel and have little time to stop. .

Non-air-conditioned room with small bathroom and television without international channels, but these small flaws are amply compensated by the kindness, services and location of the structure. Highly recommended hotel

Good location for the Messe Essen exhibition centre. we walked it in 15 minutes but it is a short walk from a metro station and then two stops. Took us about an hour to get to and from Dusseldorf airport by train. A selection of restaurants and bars also nearby. Staff could not have been more helpful. Good breakfast as well and they allowed us to leave our bags there for most of the day after we checked out. Hotel gave us a city-wise travel pass which covered all buses, trams and trains, even as far as the airport on our way back..

The lighting in the room was a bit stark - bright overhead light or small bedside reading lamps were the only options. And not to be ungrateful but it would have been even better if we could have been sent the travel pass before we arrived, then we would not have had to buy train tickets from the airport!

This property was perfectly situated in an area of town that allowed us to be close to both shops and delicious food. The room was very nice and had large windows to let in natural light. We absolutely LOVED the breakfast and would highly recommend it to anyone going it was a delicious selection and started our day off perfectly. The staff was very friendly and we would definitely stay again.

The only hard thing was that we did rent a car and parking was slightly hard to find at first. I would recommend going to the large parking lot about a block away from the hotel and once we found that we had no issues with parking going forward!

The room was well equipped and well cleaned and supported. The hotel is beautifully placed for travel to all the main sights especially by tram from the doorstep. Local restaurants also excellent.

4th floor room without a lift worked for me but check if this is a problem for you. Local parking OK once you know how to find a parking place

Super friendly and helpful staff, very comfy and clean rooms, awesome buffet breakfast with a lot of options and a complimentary lunch bag. They even gave us a free public transport pass each covering our whole stay.
