The apartment was very clean and we loved the contemporary design. The family owners were extremely attentive and friendly and nothing was too much trouble. We certainly felt like family guests rather than customers. The guest house is situated in a beautiful location on the outskirts of Staufen (20 minute walk with kids) and is very quiet and peaceful. Parking was plentiful and easy. When visiting the area again, we would definitely be hoping to stay here again.

It was very hot when we were here and it was difficult to keep the apartment cool on a night. Maybe larger fans in the room would help.

We really enjoyed our stay in this idyllic guesthouse. The breakfast was excellent and the staff were very friendly. The room had everything we needed and the area felt very safe and secure. Would highly recommend! I found the walk from Staufen town centre to the guesthouse to be not as difficult as mentioned in other reviews. It's an enjoyable walk despite it being uphill.

Breakfast was superb, the guest relations were fantastic. Tobias and Gaby were very good hosts. Tobias even picked us up and took us to the train station when we left, which was a very generous offer. Walking down into Staufen is a breeze, and you walk right along the vineyards. The beds at Katenbach were actually the best of our entire stay. I missed those beds as we continued traveling. Very kind people. Very cute two story apartment.

My husband kept commenting on the animal poop right outside our door, that was there for the entire 4 days of our stay. It did not bother me!

Great location close to Freiburg, the Black Forest, Alsace region and Basel Switzerland as well the charming town of Staufen. The room was decorated lovely, with the reclaimed wood and the exposed stone. The host was friendly and helpful. We really liked the fact that they gave us a complimentary train ticket to use during our stay, which we used to take the train to Basel for the Christmas market. We definitely plan on staying here again in the summer to enjoy this wonderful region of Germany.

Calm and quiet place, just 10 minutes walking distance from the Old City, free parking, very clean and friendly. Apartment was spacious and big, Great amenities, nice atmosphere. We added breakfast which was good and enjoyed local beer from their bar. Our Hostess Gabi was so nice and friendly, we didn't want to leave! She helped us with lots of things and was ready to help whenever needed. It was a pleasure to be her guests. Will recommend that place to all coming to Staufen.

This property is the perfect mix of historical charm and modern convenience. The original guest house is very historic with a setting that exceeded our expectations. Our room was located in the modern addition and was just as the photos depicted. However, no photo could describe the relaxing and delightful atmosphere of the outdoor balcony. The peaceful views and sound of chirping birds were wonderful and unexpected.

This did not disrupt our stay in any way but there was an outside deck resurfacing project in process. Honestly, seeing it partially complete, made us want to come back soon to see it finished! The stonework will be beautiful.

Gabby is a wonderful host! She helped us with travel plans for the area, recommended places to eat and shared the history of her beautiful place.

It is quite hard to find, especially in the dark.

A beautiful property and the family / owners were a delight. We have a wonderful time walking into town, going on short walks and enjoying awesome food & beverages.

Uphill walk from town but that is part of the allure!

Gasthause Kaltenbach is convenient to the trails in the forest and only a few minutes walk to food, entertainment, and more. If you are looking for a quiet location that’s convenient to the trails in and around Staufen, this is a good choice. The owners are helpful and provided clear direction on restaurants, hiking, and transportation.

Nothing that caught my eye, but I stayed only a few nights.

Breakfast was fine but we thought the seating arrangement was unnecessarily rigid in that a preferred table was mysteriously reserved for people who never showed up. This was rather ungraciously resolved but only after repeated appeal. I would definitely return to the Gasthaus but would do breakfast in town for less money and a better atmosphere.
