Everything but the bathroom :-) I’d been staying here in the past whenever I’m in Jakarta and I always feel at home. One of the nicest hotels you’ll encounter in Jakarta. Close to Blok M Plaza, public transportation, street food to nice restaurants but still quite at night. it’s the perfect location indeed. Breakfast buffet every morning is a feast. Every staff is very welcoming and helpful. The pool is extremely beautiful at night!!

After all, i feel like they need an upgrade especially the bathroom and with the coming of other 5* hotels in the neighborhood of South Jakarta. With relatively same room price, I’d now choose to stay in Intercontinental Pondok Indah. When I stayed in Gran Mahakam yesterday , it was more like a coincidence because Intercontinental and Sheraton were full but after my stay I knew it was just for a nostalgia.

The Gran Mahakam is not just any hotel. Even the taxi driver called it a legend in Jakarta. When you first enter, you think of a scene from Kevin Alone at Home. Everything is dignified, the furnishings and the building are wonderfully classic. Like a grand hotel in Vienna. But there is one small difference. Just as the Gran is missing the fifth letter in its name, everything in the Gran Mahakam is a little smaller. The entrance hall, the square in front of the hotel, the pool on the roof. But that was never a problem for me. There are other things that I haven't seen anywhere else. Ironed and daily changed shower curtains, a small in-house clinic or personalised surprises for a guest's birthday. Also worth mentioning is the favourable location in the middle of an incredible selection of excellent restaurants, all within walking distance. But the most important thing that the Gran Mahakam has that sets it apart from most other good hotels: It has character, a kind of personality, or let's just call it a soul. The wonderful thing about this hotel is the people who work here. And it's not primarily about the fact that I, as a guest, am addressed with exemplary friendliness by each and every one of them. The most important thing is the team spirit of the staff. The colleagues work as a team. At the Gran Mahakam, there is only one ‘we’. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the management for this. This is only possible if the demands placed on employees are feasible and not superhuman, as is unfortunately all too often the case. And when the focus is not on profit, but on satisfied guests. There is no doubt that the Gran Mahakam rightly bears this title: We are one of the Best Hotels in the World. Leaving now feels like a loss. I will definitely be back.

Nothing, it was superb

Gran Mahakam has always been my preferred hotel whenever I am in Jakarta since the past 20 years. I must say the hotel management has done a great job keeping the premise in an exquisite condition as long as I could remember. The breakfast spread although not extensive, has always been excellent. Staff was attentive and always helpful, and the strategic location with close proximity to Plaza Blok M and MRT makes it convenient to move around. I always take advantage to have my regular morning run at the park near the hotel (which I don't get to do if I stay at other city hotels). The gym is located at P1, albeit small but good enough for a quick workout. There is also this superb eatery called Ayam Bakar Ganthari which serves superb grilled chicken with rice, a mere 200m away from the hotel (must try).

There are only two elevators from the lobby to the rooms, so waiting time could be frustrating especially when there are events taking place at the ballroom located on the 2nd floor (on most weekends). Noises from outside (at night) could disrupt your peaceful sleep, especially if your room is facing the roadside. For light sleepers, you might want to consider getting the room facing the back of the hotel for quieter ambience. The hotel used to put welcome fruits in the room with a welcome note, but they no longer do so. These little things make a difference, especially to returning guests.

Charming and well appointed small hotel This hotel exceeded my expectations. The building is well maintained, and the lobby while small is elegantly appointed. Rooms are of a good size, and all of the amenities required for business travel were available. The staff are super friendly, well trained and helpful. The Japanese restaurant Aoki provides very fresh and well presented sashimi and dishes. The cafe is less nice and breakfast dismal. Dairy intolerant folk - note there is no alternative soy, oat or almond milk offered. It would be a great improvement if at least one of those were put on the menu.

A cosy, elegant hotel with an Indonesian clientele, a welcome change from soulless international hotels. Perfectly organized, with a warm welcome and attentive service, a copious local breakfast offering a wide choice, and impeccable service. Comfortable rooms in a warm, classic style.

Gran Mahakam has always been my place of stay whenever I am in town, and it feels great to be back here post COVID-19. I last stayed over in 2019. This time my wife and I stayed for 4 nights, and I must applaud the management to keep the hotel in a mint, exquisite condition, particularly post pandemic era. The ambience felt exactly the same the last time I visited, the staff always helpful and obliging. Breakfast is always something I look forward to every morning. The bed was very comfy and among the best ones I have been in. A truly memorable stay.

There was a clearly visible spot of dirt on the carpet in the room right in front of the TV cabinet which could have easily being cleaned by the houskeeping. The TV is dated and needs to be replaced. The laundry I sent for cleaning was supposed to be returned at night on the same day but I never got them, instead I had to call and asked for it (which I think was not necessary) the next morning.

Very comfortable, clean hotel with good facilities. Included buffet breakfast was excellent.

I was only there one night but I thought the room service meal I ordered was overpriced and not very good quality. Also, very limited options for those who do not eat meat. Rooms facing the street do get traffic noise at night - I had read this in reviews but forgot to specify a room not fronting the street when I booked. However, I didn't have any trouble sleeping as I was very tired.

This classic hotel has a very tasteful interior. Staff were professional and friendly who were always ready to help. The room was spotless and amenities smelled nice. Breakfast was tasty had a plenty of choices.
